1. Thanks BigRed. I think it will be fine for me, normally it's just in and out of the car or van and a short stroll. Don
2. I like them as well 45-100 for me.. They don't stay zingy that long but lots of crunch and harmonic there. Had a set on 6 month now and still sounding good for me.
3.
I keep going back and forth between flats and rounds. I love the idea of flats but rounds seem to keep winning out. Ive got a set of Chromes and TI's (missing a D string at the moment) that have been on and off my gigging bass for the past couple of years. Each time i put them on and love the tone, but then at gigs i miss the overtones. At the moment i have a new set of GHS Precision's on and to my ears these are what flats should sound like. More thump than the TI's and Chromes, and very smooth to play. I do love TI''s for their lower tension but never felt they produced the thump i thought flats should produce.
I find it a tease as well. I have 2 of the six now with rounds and 3 with flats and 1 with tapewound black nylon... that's my way round it for now lol.
4. I ordered one of those flightcases from Thomann, when it turned up it was a lot bigger than I'd imagined and far too cumbersome for me to cart around just for gigs and practice.. I just sent it back under their 30 day return and getting one of the gig bags that fit the star bass instead. Oops, was it one of these that were cr#p http://www.thomann.de/fi/rockbag_hollowbody_bass_gigbag.htm ?
5. Yes, 2 of those 212's must be VERY loud I use one and have never run out of volume with it, even in a park outdoors with not going through the PA it's done the bizz.
6. I have a music shop giftcard that is burning a hole in my pocket, That 15" 200w combo might just be the job
7. There certainly is something about the oldies, congrats
8. On a singlecoil P I have found it to be even more pokey up that end!
9.
Heard a couple of cracking tunes from the soon to be released Wilko and Roger Daltrey album on the radio this morning.Very reminiscent of the early feelgoods. Definitely on my shopping list! Anyone know if Norm is playing on the album?
I'd guess he is.
10.
What an odd comment. Not all songs are created equal. And to think it took Freddy and the gang 3 weeks to record just one song... Bohemian Rhapsody was it? Talk about getting people to pull their socks up...!
I'm sorry if my comment seemed out of order.. I agree not all songs are created equal and we were on a shoestring budget.. so best of luck with your session and look forward to hearing the results.
11.
Just heading to univibe studio's in Birmingham to record the new Khaos Theory EP. We're there for the next three days and we plan on getting three new tracks done. We'll be doing a video diary so keep an eye out
Have fun. Crickey we knocked out 7 songs in less than 2 days.. @ €30 an hour with our own money, we rocked up ready. Edit, should add that time didn't involve any mixing or mastering.
12.
Said it many times. Put on the actors clothes and assume the role of the most confident , able player that walks the earth. Before you know it... you won't need to act any more. No skulking at the back with your head down. Proceed to the front of the stage and make 'em have it. You will be a different person the next morning , having walked the walk , and you'll never go back. I hope it brings you the joy it's always brought me.
Nice post Dr Remember to enjoy it and especially the relief that comes once the first one is out of the way.
13. I use mine a bit, one full song and then bits and pieces here and there. It's actually my favourite pedal.. The way you can set the sensitivity means you can be very subtle with it as well, you can then dig in and only highlight the bits you want.
14. We had the pleasure to support and meet Wilko and Norman back in Jan of this year, it lived up to all my expectations and more, even got Norm to play my P after their sound check That night will stay in my memory for a long time. edit. Give me a chance to post this again
15. ..and I think he got nearly the same type of tone whichever bass it was that he was using.. The technique and timing are the keys in trying to sound like him.. Good luck there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1WMByLRgb8 Love it
16. Post-up when the Album is out.. I'll deffo have one of those.
17. Full on a passive, a little more back on an aggressive active
18. Usual Pub gig for us.. Thought we played fairly well, a few up dancing and also got some nice comments and another booking. I had the Star bass out for the first time live and loved what it gave me
19. I'll agree with Kev and say a lot of it has to do with playability and vibe. I had a Streamer that I bought new in 89, it was a nice bass and I played it exclusively for over 20 years. Just now I just picked up a new Warwick star bass (mik) and it's every bit as nice fit and finish as the old Streamer was. Thats been Warwick for me. Then no other Fender P I have played compares to the feel of my 1970, great neck, nice weight and full of mojo... The same for my pre-eb Ray.. it has that something in vibe and playability and sound for me that the post EB's don't..or at least the ones I have tried don't. When you get hold of THE right bass you will know it ! be it vintage or new, It's a choice we are free to make. Enjoy the ride it's fun.
20. yes a fretless with a touch of chorus to my ear. I'm not sure when Sting started doing it in the police but I read that on recordings he often double tracked his bass parts with blended electric and stand-up. Where's our fatSting man when you need him?
21. Just took my recently purchased pre-eb Ray to my luthier to get a once over and set-up done.. and he said it's one of the nicest necks he has ever seen on a bass and he should know he's been building them for the past 40 years
22.
So which flats have you used and what size. Thinking of putting them on my MM SUB
I had an unused set of Roto 77's 45-105..lying around so stuck them on there, they are a bit high tension for my liking, but sound pretty good. I have my stock Fender 45-100 steel flats here as well, which I think will go back on.
23. I have flats on my Ray. Sometimes too clanky with rounds
24. Yes, it's one of those you need a bit of stamina and strength to get through. That's one of the things that amazed me watching Norman up close just recently.. The strength and power he has to be on the go the whole time for close to a couple of hours. Not bad for 64, He never seems to sit on the route notes for very long lol. Even during the soundcheck he was non-stop doodling, like some kind of machine.
25.
Ramp up the sensitivity a couple of notches for that passive p-bass! Quack-Quack!!
Thanks, I'll try it. The sensitivity is one of the things I really like with this pedal, you can dig in and quack it, or lay back and be subtle. I'm really liking the Catalinbread SFT that I just bought for the same reasons.
