I've had both and still have the TH500, it has just a little bit more attack for me and found the mids to be a lot more use-able.
I swapped my Streamline and went back to a Shuttle and use that when I'm after a very clean tone.
I think both are good, the TH is more versatile imo.
edit, smelling

This is an isolated bassline from the Clash if the link works

Cool, thanks, I always wondered what he played for the middle 8 in I fought the law

Most basses will get you into a pub or a concert hall, but only a Ric will get you into Court.

That's a great quote..maybe JH should consider putting that on the box
Love my Rick for all that mid honk and the smooth round tone with the tones rolled off.
As KevB put it, it's no more versatile than a P or J. (maybe a bit less than a P)
I personally think the tones you get out of it suit certain types of music.. if that's your bag it's great.
I find them easy to play admittedly I'm not the most fiddly of players.. the higher register pops out like nothing else I've ever played, with all that maple and straight through neck.
lol, compared to some of the places you guys play, mine are dumps.
First time out with the new Band last night.. little bit of a cliché to start http://youtu.be/Ugi05W7Y8U4
Recorded on a Zoom Q2.
I like a few pedals,
mine goes like this, bass,Tuner, Envelope filter, Octave, Compressor, Chorus. The compressor is always on.
The envelope filter would be my first port of call if I was looking to funk things up.
I had one, moved it on for a Streamliner and after about a year I bought another Shuttle, If I'd been buying new I might of gone for a Shuttle 6.2.
Nice amps if you like it clear and slightly brite.

I'm there as well atm.. must of spent a fortune this far anyway.
(I'm trying to learn to be happy with what I've got) a bit of money coming in from gigs now and it's nice to spend it on something other than bass gear
Playing with 2 different bands and being able to leave my gear at the rehearsal room I have 2 main rigs.
Aguilar Th500 with 2 Aguilar GS 112's
Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 with a Genz Benz neo xt 212
Both sound great and now I'm GAS free

what I want is a passive p that looks like a p but oozes quality unlike a fender...?
lol, you must of been unlucky and only tried the Fender-dogs?
or I have been using the wrong basses...
Mind you the only boutique I've had was a custom Warwick Streamer from 89.. that I used for near on 20 years.. Then went full circle back to passive with Fender and couldn't be happier.
Best bass I have owned full stop is a 1970 Fender P..
Of course it's all personal and down to feel and what you expect from your instrument.. As has been said before a lot of the people that get to listen to our music couldn't tell the difference in sound between a £200 bass and a £2000 one.
Good luck with your search and let us know what your Jedi bass turns out to be
lol.
Wondered what was wrong with my Fender P's. Now I know it isn't just my playing.
I'm putting a glove like his and a bathrobe onto my Christmas list!

GHS Pressure wounds. Lovely things.

I have these on my fretless P as well. They do a good job, bit more bite than flats with most of the feel of a flat.
I'll give the Status's a try if these others ever wear out.
You really need one of each a Jazz and a P!
The P can sound a bit boring on it's own, but once it's in the mix or live with the band it reallycomes into it's own.
The Jazz on the otherhand sounds great played solo and does a nice job live and records very nicely.
Guess a big part depends what type of stuff you play or what you want to sound like as well. But that's my take on them both if it's any help
They will always be a Bubblegum wanna be Clash band for me. .. I just can't help comparing them. My problem maybe in following the Clash round since 79.
Those Neo xt's are great.
They seem to have it all, low, mid and high.. and move a massive amount of air.
I just got 2 aggie GS 112's for another band but still think I prefer the Neo x 212.
edit to say not sure how the 750 is, but looks sweet-
