1. Not sure if it's the link that's not working or that it's just so crap? Anyway some help 1 Jazz 1 Fretless P 1 Rick 4003 1 70's P 1 51 RI- P
2. A little bit of fun, nothing scientific or anything to prove. I recorded 5 different basses with the Korg Pandora, I left everything the same.. tone and volume wide open on each bass, a little compression and Chorus on the Pandora. Can you tell what basses they are, even with the sloppy playing? 4 with flats one with rounds Try not to cheat and check out my profile!
3.
If you don't mind me asking, do you also play jazz bass as well as the p-bass? I ask this because I have a jazz, a P-J and a P. My P is the one with the thinnest tone. I bought it after I found that on the PJ I was loving the P pup. Yet in comparison the P bass wirh Bart pups just doesn't have to lows of the other 2.
That could well be the Bart Pups doing that.. Try it with a stock Fender pup or SD's.. Might be too obvious but with the Jazz what you might be hearing is single coil vs the split single... or just the pick-up placement. Familyman had his choice of basses and mostly used the Jazz.. so maybe there is something more there.
4. Nice one. Lots of good melodies going on in there. Enjoy.
5. It's a classic imo. I much prefer the older Burst style with more yellow in it, like some of WoT's. I have 2 relatively new bursts, in a P and J flavour, they are both pretty dark bursts.
6.
What strings would you say the tension is similar to?
Something in- between the TI's and the La Bella 760 FL- 43-104. The above post is right! Look at a lighter set. Getting the right gauge/tension has been the crucial issue for me in finding the right flats.
7. I'd say the Fender steel flats are pretty close.. I use them in lights 45-100 on 3 of my 5 basses Best flats for me.
8. I agree the Stingray could of been eq'd a little better, maybe he tried to set it flat! We all know the bass full up and treble to taste is the way it's done on a ray. (at least on the 2eq) I'm also very much in the passive club when it comes to bass's.. at least for what I do. For some reason I like active soloed and recorded in a controlled environment.. but using one live with the band I'm always fiddling and never completely happy. Saying all that, another Ray is deffo on the radar at some point.
9. Nice bass I have a CIJ Sunburst fretless precision, any interest?
10. Norm has to be the UK's no1 electric bassist, he's got the licks and chops to play the lot and what a showman... Wilko a one-off and complete nutcase on stage and he seems such a humble human off. I only saw them once as the Blockheads many moons ago and was blown away..
11. Weird, my 2012 has been great from the get go.. Fender flats and it's all there.
12. Getting the right tension/gauge flats for your feel and the type of bass you stick em on can be hard work and expensive, but once you get it.. it's well worth it Feel for you Lozz.
13. I enjoyed that, thanks. Very nice sound from each instrument, makes me want to put rounds back on my Jazz Wonder how you recorded the sound, did you mic the cab up or was it just ambient sound to the camera?
14. The overall content of the song has to be pretty good as well, a great bass line alone won't get much recognition imo. Most of the songs you have listed there have a fair bit more going on in them than just a decent bass line... It's a combination.. and yes having the bass higher up in the mix will get it noticed a lot more by non museos . The subtle parts like Jamerson plays are lost on a lot of non players I think. So it's the bands themselves that make the bass lines memorable, all knowing when and what to play to complement each other properly.. edit. spelling lol
15. I thought I'd clocked you had some Rik before?
16. Hi Nosmo. There are a good few of us old farts here that have done the same and had a break, and still felt we have something more to give. Inspiration is here as well the for sale section, best keep away from that is my advice
17. Hi Bert and thanks. The bass i bought off Bram on here. The serial dates it to a 1970, Bram had it in bits and i think most of it is original, the scratch plate has shrunk and is celliloid so guess it is also from around that time or close. Its a very nice weight not that late 70's backbreakers type i had before. Very brite and resonat ad easy to play, it really is a beaut. I bought it to be a player and not something to be left in the case. A lot of people say the older Fenders are well over priced and over rated, but find a decent one and youll have no regrets.. One day maybe something pre CBS, but that might be one that would only come out on special occasions, or when ive stopped giging. The pics were the self indulgence, my daughter took them, so proud Dad posted
18. We've had a fairly active week for us, 2 gigs at the weekend and the opening act for an outdoor yearly Blues festival last night. Yesterday was nice in a few different ways, getting to play in fantastic weather in the early evening outdoors to a mainly appreciative audience that were there to have fun. It wasn't the easiest gig to do, no sound check straight on using the house back -line.. the levels were all over the shop on stage for the first couple of numbers, you could hear all the constant tweaking going on But credit to the sound guys people out front said it sounded good. A couple of pics and my newish pride and joy Excuse the self indulgence
19. I fly back to the UK on Thursday for a few days, Think I'll be up in London on Friday, if I get the chance I'll try and pop along if I can give my teenage Daughter the slip for the evening.
20.
What would be a suitable Headphone to use, does anyone have any recommendations!
Not sure they'll help that much, if your like me the feet get going as well.. I like closed Sennheisers (I have 3 pairs round the house) HD 380 pros are my fave for playing bass and music
21. Highfox

I had a beauty of Bram, he knows his basses. Deal with confidence.
22. I'll put another +1 for Strings Direct, had a dead E on a fresh set I'd bought and they mailed off a new set same day Brilliant service.
23. Macca makes it all look easy That's without trying to sing and keep it in tune
24. lol, Good for her.
25.
I'm presuming you already have a GS212 to compare them to?
Actually, I don't so my idea is once again floored. I can let you know if there is any improvement over the CL's tho. lol.
