1. Ok, So sometime after letting my 1977 P bass go, I started lusting for a bit more old P bass action. I wanted a player and not something on the pre CBS price scale, thanks to Basschat's very own Bram I managed to seal a deal on a 69-70 P. It is nice and light weight- 3.6 kg on my scales (that was a major factor in getting rid of my 77 it weighed a bomb and I'd suffer if we had to do a couple of sets a night). It's almost a jazz width neck at the nut maybe an A? So far so good, strung with a new set of flat rotos, off to practice with it today and a gig tomorrow to see how it sounds in the mix. btw, anyone got any tips, the tuners take a good bit of effort to turn and wonder what's best to help loosen them up a bit? 3. Woke up wanting to listen to this today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU6AJNgP_mk I'm getting right back into pub rock lol.
 4. One of the bands I play in want to do a version of this, I know it's been covered a lot and not exactly fresh! Looking for some inspiration, I came across this, an eye opener on what you can do if you have the chops Think I read somewhere on this forum about someone saying the Ox wasn't that much cop lol. Enjoy, I did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWgxjc7kv3Q
 5. We had a Pub gig last night. Not too many in, but those that were in seemed to really enjoy it, lots up dancing and asking where we were playing next. Only 4 gigs I've done with this band, but this was the best so far. I finally learned all the songs and can relax and let rip. I only took a 1x12 and the TH500, sounded sweet slightly over driven
 6.
Read this. Nuff said
It was better living thru it lol.
 7.
Punk is an attitude. Why people focus entirely on London circa 1976 is beyond me when it was very much prevalent in bands from New York beforehand (NY Dolls), the 60s garage scene and rockabilly. What a lot of punk hating musicians are objecting to is the cartoon version in mainstream culture. Like any genre there are some amazing recordings and great musicians linked with punk

It was just another way of a generation of disaffected yoof to say saying 'F*** you'! We all did it one way or another.
Put those two together and add fashion and it pretty much sums it up for me. It' still the attitude to me, you can still be a punk playing Jazz
 8. Must of been posted a million times, but this one does it for me.. keep chasing it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmmD53vMyJU
 9. If I didn't already have one (albeit a 4003) in Blue, I'd be biting your arm off!
 10. It's in very good nick for a 30 year old bass. Lovely.
 11. Yes, that looks nice. The finish does look a bit different to the US standards. Is the pup spacing the same? You wouldn't maybe want to be back here now, about 25+ here today
 12.
What have you done about tax/duty etc!?
No extra tax and duty between EU member states, if that's what you are worried about. (there can be on some things such as cars and in some cases buying from a storefront you may have to pay your local vat rate if it's applicable or higher) I've never had to pay anything on secondhand goods.
 13.
So are these Pino basses as good as the Squier CVP's that they are modelled on ;-)
Yes, you can get the Squier for about 100th of the price of a Pino I tried one of those CVP's not bad.. never tried a Pino but would love to.
 14.
And me!!
and me! lol
 15.
I've decided that I want flats on my Jazz as I have the Aria for the round wound sounds and it is super versatile given the electronics. I've got Labella deep talking on my Precision and like the tension, to the point that when I play the Jazz with rounds I end up playing down by the bridge in order to get a similar feel. I was thinking about putting a set of Fender 9050M on but have read they are very high tension. Are they similar to the LaBella? I'm not sure I'd like anything more rod like than those. Any other recommendations? Cost is not an issue, blues is what I play.
I'd say they'd be close. I went from the LaBella 760FL (43/104) to the Fender 9050L (45/100) on my P and they are pretty close in feel imo. Nowt wrong with the LaBella's.. just wanted a change.
 16.
Oh apologies, I didn't quite get it.
No Problem. Reading my post again it wasn't really very clear.. It was in my head at the time of writing tho. Hopefully you'll find a shop or owner near Liverpool that has new or used Ricks you can try.
 17.
I don't understand one trick claim in relation to the Precision bass either. It can do lots of diferent things.
That was me trying to be sarcastic, as we all know P-basses are used in all types of music, a roll of the tone will do a fair bit... abit like the Rick.. which was the point I was trying to make.
 18. Nice. I personally love the bass sound as is.
 19.
I know very little about Rickenbacker basses but I've heard McCartney and I've heard Squire and I don't get how you can say 'one trick'.
I agree, there is a fair bit you can do with them, the newer models even have a vintage/modern circuit on then them, 2 pups, 2 tones controls, stereo feed if you want it, that's just for starters. Just like a good old P and one trick pony.. great sound no matter what you do imo, The only thing the Rick can miss is a bit of clout compared to a P in the very lowend, but the Rick has a lot of sweet mid sounds that you won't get on any other bass. That's how I hear them.
 20. I had a set of the new coating BB's, liked the feel, the only problem I had with them is that they caused some kind of interference and crackle (like a grounding issue) on my basses, tried it on an active Ray and also passive P and Jazz and they did it on all of them, through different amps as well. Not sure if it was down to the coating or what? Nice strings otherwise.
 21. 3 out of the 4 Fender Bass's I own have had pick-up changes... 2 Japs and one Usa.
 22. I have found time for 2, it can be a bit of a strain when you have to put one first. The reason I took on another band is that nothing more than practising and the odd gig here and there was happening with my original band! I wanted to be a little more active in playing- live and recording and the other band is a lot more active in those ways.. Tho I'd dare say I much prefer the stuff we do in the band that's less active Strange isn't it!
