1.
I don't understand one trick claim in relation to the Precision bass either. It can do lots of diferent things.
That was me trying to be sarcastic, as we all know P-basses are used in all types of music, a roll of the tone will do a fair bit... abit like the Rick.. which was the point I was trying to make.
2. Nice. I personally love the bass sound as is.
3.
I know very little about Rickenbacker basses but I've heard McCartney and I've heard Squire and I don't get how you can say 'one trick'.
I agree, there is a fair bit you can do with them, the newer models even have a vintage/modern circuit on then them, 2 pups, 2 tones controls, stereo feed if you want it, that's just for starters. Just like a good old P and one trick pony.. great sound no matter what you do imo, The only thing the Rick can miss is a bit of clout compared to a P in the very lowend, but the Rick has a lot of sweet mid sounds that you won't get on any other bass. That's how I hear them.
4. I had a set of the new coating BB's, liked the feel, the only problem I had with them is that they caused some kind of interference and crackle (like a grounding issue) on my basses, tried it on an active Ray and also passive P and Jazz and they did it on all of them, through different amps as well. Not sure if it was down to the coating or what? Nice strings otherwise.
5. 3 out of the 4 Fender Bass's I own have had pick-up changes... 2 Japs and one Usa.
6. I have found time for 2, it can be a bit of a strain when you have to put one first. The reason I took on another band is that nothing more than practising and the odd gig here and there was happening with my original band! I wanted to be a little more active in playing- live and recording and the other band is a lot more active in those ways.. Tho I'd dare say I much prefer the stuff we do in the band that's less active Strange isn't it!
7. Hi. I have had a BG500 2x10 for a few years now... There is a thread on here if you search! Mines been fine, a few of the memory buttons have popped out but that's all that's gone wrong. It's pretty loud. Imo the speakers let it down a bit, it sounds good through the DI and headphone socket and when not pushed it has a fair bit of punch and tightness, but once you start to push the amp the 210's start to lose some focus and that's really why I use something else nowadays. I still use it at home as a practice amp and standby should I need it. The 115 might be a bit different. All in all not bad for a budget amp.. depends what your looking for. I wouldn't sell mine, it' one of the best headphone/mp3 amps I have played through.
8. Very noisy active circuit on the one I tried, much prefer my passive USA jazz.
9. Nice one. I've had it's bigger brother the TH500 for a couple of weeks now. Used it with a couple of different cabs, GB Neox 212t and a also a couple of EBS CL112's and it's sounded great with both. I'd say it's pretty neutral sounding, you can beef-up the Highs lows and mids the same as with the TH pedal.. The drive is there if you want it to start to break up or sound a bit more tubey/overdriven.
10.
Sting's mum should be included in this, I reckon.
Think he lost his Mum to cancer around 87.. lost mine last year to the same bloody thing. Anyway, he's a British treasure whether we like it or not.
11. That must be awesome. Love where you have the master volume knob set to on the TH
12. Nice choice. They'd be mad to.. I have the TH500, but now really need some DB' 12's to go with it. Edit, you might be better off posting this in the items wanted section.
13. After that bum note thread about Propaganda's Duel, I had to have a go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=am1xcjRZnMs I'm close but no biscuit. Playing along to the Talkingheads again, enjoy that.
14. We have permanent unshared rooms for our rehearsals, so our Pa and gear stays there till we gig. The only problem is I'm in 2 bands, so have to have a separate rig at each place,
15. I think we all nick bit's and pieces from the music we hear around us. It's very hard and requires a fair bit of talent to be totally original. Having an idol or an influence to look upto is not at all bad in my book, take what you can from them and make it your own. Playing music is wonderful and an ever learning path to the soul ...
16. I liked/like them a lot. I was lucky enough to see them at the Odeon in Hammersmith back in 79. I thought Sting turned into an even more pretentious git at some point, but after reading his biography (recommend it) I kind of understood a bit more about him and why he comes off so snobby and full of himself.
17. Bendy thumb! Maybe it is the secret weapon Made me feel a bit ill tbh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwdH9D0p6w4
18. New amp day for me.. Out went the Streamliner (nothing really wrong with it, just fancied a change) and in comes the TH500. Just testing it at home with an EBS single 12 until I get it to rehearsal tomorrow and pair it with my GB Neox 212, that's until I can find me some DB 112's. Lot's of Aggie love here, having just picked up the Tone Hammer pedal to use on my other amp or when I have to use another backline.
19. That's fair enough Brens.. I never engaged the LF/ Boost on the Shuttle and on the Streamliner I had the bass cut to about 10pm. Good luck with your search, knowing how you want it to sound is half the battle fought imo.
20.
. I'm currently running a 600w Genz Benz, and often hit the limiter on a gig,
Wow! If your doing that at 4 ohms with a decent cab you must be loud!. I've never had to go past halfway with the GB 600w heads I've had-
21. I'd say try another 112 as well. It really makes a lot of difference hooking up 2.
22. I have the AntiquityII's in my P and love em, nice woody sound, nice highs and lots of low's as you roll the tone.
23. I'll have to get me another one at some point, after letting the last one go.
24. Bought an Aguilar Tone Hammer off Lozz. Got it off to me quickly, Safely wrapped and as always good for his word. Top Basschatter. Thanks.
25. I found this, he makes it look easy as always. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37oAYqDE7n4
