1.
Not the most technical, but I managed to get at least 3 separate influences into this one, Dolly Dynamite, by The Tuesday Club: Song starts at 1m35 (and although the heading is New Glamour, that`s the second song on this clip)
Think I can hear a bit of the Specials in there Lozz? Not sure about the others?
2.
In fact, perhaps the mods should consider adding the Beatles and Mustang Sally to politics, religion and sexism as topics to be avoided lest it all descends into name calling.
Lol, good idea
3. For me right now it's the 51 reissue
4.
And who would have thought that such a simple bass line would make one man so much money. I am led to believe John Deacon has earned a fortune from it with it being used on things like Gladiators etc ( sat night tv not the Russell Crowe epic obviously )
and he can thank Bernard Edwards for the inspiration.
5. I picked one up on here not long ago for a little over £400 had no case it also had a few knocks and bruises. I just stuck a Lindy Fralin singlcoil in there and can't be any happier with the sound. Can't see me ever wanting to shift it.
6. I'd like to hear one as well. Sound much nicer with a maple neck
7. 10 days before I was born, makes me feel young
8. Think this kind of thing came up before? Composing I can sometimes hear in my head what I want to play, but can't always get it I think most of us that have played a few years (and those fortunate people that have a good ear from the start) can hear and visualise what notes are being played in a lot of Pop/ popular music. I could be wrong... Edit: Yes your definitely a nut case.
9.
Shameless plug but I have the 'Vintage' Seymour Duncan brand new in the box (never fitted) available for about 50% of the new price. Got to be worth a punt and even if you don't like it then you can sell it and get your money back... a free trial essentially!
I'd of had that off you, had I known. If it's the Antiquity's, they are very nice, I have a split version of those. I think I'm set now tho thanks. Maybe some other lucky devil around.
10. For anyone who's following this, the singlecoil Fralin is now installed and I'm very happy with the balance and tone I'm now getting out of the 51. Strung with TI flats it's a killer tone that's put my other splitcoil P-basses in the shade for now. The tone knob really does a LOT with the singlecoils.. never noticed it so much on my Jazz bass.
11. I recently converted all our charts to pdf and use them on the iPad.. I bought an ipad stand as well, pretty safe and sturdy and not too bulky to have to move from place to place.
12. Thanks Lozz. I have a Lindy Fralin on the way. Lets see! I found the sound from the stock to be a little thin whilst listening back to our rehearsal session this week. Sounded great soloed. Money to burn I guess.. it was buy another jumper or get a new pickup
13. The extra scale length of these saved me. The La Bella's I tried to put on my Fender P 51 RI came up slightly too short.
14. I guess and that's all it is... Bitsa, Maya and USA P.
15. I'm not sure I want to go the single splitcoil route tbh. I really like the sound of the single and don't want to stray too far from what makes it sound different from a modern splitcoil P pickup. Just want to try and lose some of the uneveness the stock pup seems to be giving me, if thats possible. I have had no real issues with hum or unwanted noise so far
16. So I managed to pick up a used Fender 51 reissue from these forums. I'm very happy with the bass, but am finding a lot of uneveness in sound balance from string to string. I'm thinking a change of pickup may go some way to solving this problem. I want to go singlecoil and on the radar are the SD Basslines 3, the Lollar and Fralin. I'm looking for a pickup that will give me a little more dynamics and maybe take away a little bit of the harshness of the top end. any thoughts tips?
17. Bought a 51 P bass off Ash. Very straight forward and fair.. Quick postage, safely packaged and exactly as described. Top Basschatter.
18. Looks like the 12" are doing it. another vote for the GB Neox 212t.. Best cab I have ever had hands down.
19. The la Bella's I use are FL's 43/60/82/104. The G's not too thin for me. The Fender Flats I have never tried and the Roto's not for many years now. D'addario Chromes I didn't get on with for some reason, might of been a heavy gauge I tried, they were very high tension. I'm going to try the Joe Osbournes at some point and see if they give me what the GHS Precisions haven't. Fun and games
20. La Bella 760 FL's on my Rick..love it. Just the right tension and feel. They are on 3 out of my 4 basses.. seem to suit me most. I've tried a few other sets of flats trying to get it right on the Rik, TI's but they felt too low tension on the rick (fine on the jazz), the GHS precision flats were a little too muddy, then some Ghs brite flats that were neither here nor there in sound or feel, I went back to the La Bella's and they felt and sounded just right.
