1.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT SLAP AT BASS CHAT GATHERINGS, OR AT ANY OTHER GATHERINGS OF BASS PLAYERS,
lol, unless you are really bad at it
2. Thanks for the heads-up. I have just grabbed the ibook version for the iPad and it is VERY nicely presented, the audio and backing tracks work really well and the lessons seem very well thought out, there is stuff in there for everyone from beginner to full on pro. Great job! I normally get bored quickly with theory books but this one seems one I'll stick with. If I have any questions I'll be back Stuart! lol
3. Thanks for that dmz, especially the model numbers. Do you know if the PB62FL comes in an Alder body or just basswood? Also any idea what pickups they have in the 2005 models? Seems hard to find info on them and what I have found seems conflicting.. with regard to pickups and body material. Thanks again.
4. I have my eye on one of these and wondered if anyone has had a chance to play one or has any words of wisdom on what I should look out for or expect with these models? Seems it's hard to come by fretless P's nowadays unless you (can afford) something fairly old or stomp up for a Tony Franklin sig. Am I right in thinking that the only non signature fretless Fender P basses are made CIJ/MIJ nowadays? Thanks..
5.
I've downloaded a sample to have a nose If I like it, I'll buy the book
This forum is terrible, please tell me it's no good.
6. Loved and still love this
7. Good luck with the sale Bump. I'd be all over that if I didn't have one already. Still a bit gutted I didn't hang on for one in natural when I was buying.
8. I have posted it every time there is a P bass pickup suggestion.. But the SD Antiquity 2's do it for me, fairly pricey and hard to find but so worth it . Got mine off the evilbay, posted form the USA.
9.
I had a noodle tonight but before I started I thought I'd check the intonation, G D were spot on, A a little off and E quite a bit off. I checked it on the 12 harmonic and the open string. After I adjusted it I was finding that most of the notes at the top of the E were very sharp and the notes from the middle spot on my Korg Chromatic tuner..spot on the green light in the middle.... The F note was over +20 on the sharp side. Virtually all of the notes on the D and G were on green, most on the A. I noodled to my Stage 3 songs and afterwards all of th strings were off and I guess I put that down to stretch. I've managed to get the F note to less than +10 by slightly flatting the open E. There is a little triangle either side of 0 on th tuner at about +20. Does this mean that if you can't get perfect intonation anything under +20 closest to 0 is ok? I checked all notes on all strings and they are correct, most hit the green light and any others are slightly sharp. The Bass is far heavier than my Fender Squire P Bass and it's so low it's unreal......I've got a punk pop song to play mostly on frets 1 and 3. I had the volume knob on the Bass set to max and rolled off all the treble.... I had to turn it up almost to full as it was so low... I've only got a 15 w basic fender bass amp. What I've found though is that I've discovered harmonics that aren't even on my harmonic chart...is that possible? All harmonics are crystal clear and easy to find even for me including the half fret ones :-) I know little to nothing about Bass but it seems awesome. ....... A little fret buzz as normal :-) .... The strings don't like sliding but I guess they are brand new,
I'd suggest getting it set up properly with the strings and gauge you intend to use., maybe the nut needs some work? In my experience USA Fenders only come out of the factory half ready with regards to the playability I like. I have a Luthier that sets all my basses up and he does a 100% better job than I can even after years of tinkering... neck adjustment, proper intonation, string heights, levels and smooths the frets (even my brand new 2009 USA Jazz needed work done on the sharp frets) , nut work, saddle adjustment, pick-up heights and anything else that needs doing, all for €50 and does it all while I wait and test. It puts my mind at rest once he's looked at them.
10. Paul simonon and Jah Wobble Think 1978.
11. Sounds good. Your drummer likes a cymbal
12. I have 4 at the moment, the most I have ever owned at one time! They all get a play and rotated. I have 2 Fender P's, one of them is fairly old and I don't really like having to take it out and about in the extreme cold of winter. (hence my excuse for having 2).. Then there is a Jazz and a Stingray. They all have a slightly different feel and sound and I don't get bored swapping them round, in fact I like it.
13.
Yet another thread where we're being told we can't do what we want with our gear. ffs!
Don't take any notice of it .. I don't Having just gone back to using an active bass (after having thought I don't like them anymore lol) With the 2 eq Ray I'm using, I find the sweet-spot (depends on what sound I have in my head at the time) slight boost on the bass from what I hear as neutral/flat and the treble boosted just slightly more. That's with flats and I adjust from there to make sure I cut through how I like.
14. I put some SD Antiquity 2's in my P and love the sound it's given it. Vintage vibe with lots of woody tone Edit. I was going to record a sound clip of them, but then thought my terrible playing might put you off
15. Congrats on the bass Lozz. Was it the Natural one that was on here?
16. I have a BG 500, mines the combo, (but basically it's the same head I think) It's now used as my back-up/practice amp, it's been pretty solid for over 2 years now and never let me down. I'm not sure if it's just the BG versions but the one I have when using post DI- out I do seem to get some very slight distortion on it, but other than that it's a fairly sound amp with lots of features.
17. I'd also suggest that you must have a faulty unit .. if it's newish I'd return it under warranty, Good luck, it's a great little amp and it should be doing clean and loud!
18.
Hello Highfox, Thanks for the reply, as per the question, do you have specific control settings for the shuttle? thanks Pete
With a p bass Just setting it all flat with the gains at 12, should get you close..
19. The shuttle 6.0 does do loud and clean imo especially at 4ohms . (Never had a Hartke so can't compare) Stl 6.0 can be a little low/thin on bass, but hit the LF switch and your sorted. Never found it to under power running 2x12 at 4 Ohms.
20.
Most of my memories of him were playing a hollow-body (Epiphone?) around the 'Invaders of the Heart' time
Going back to the Human Condition and the earlier Invaders, every time I saw him live it was a Pbass. I think that Ovation started seeing the light of day around 1992,
21.
Anyone know what become of the Ampeg bass Wobble used when PiL played on the OGWT?
I heard it was nicked out of a taxi and then rumored to be the bass that the guy out of Aswad used for a while. Not sure how true that really is!
22.
Oh, no! Have I made myself look uncool on the internet!? Well, It's about time he got a new one!
Lol, your forgiven billyapple, at least you made it to the gig. I'd of been there as well if I lived a bit closer. I have been checking out some vids of them live on youtube and they both seem to still gel together pretty well.
23.
He was playing an Ovation Magnum
He's been using that bass for near on 20 years
24.
Half Finnish (Mum from Turku) - that count?
Certainly does, that's where I'm based
25. Great! I checked out your youtube vids and you guys certainly do Rock and Roll. Interesting bass, is it a Status?
