1. I kind of regret trading in the customised passive single pickup Wal Pro 1 that I had back in 85. But I got a Warwick Streamer custom stage 1 that went on to be my only bass for the next 20 years, so maybe it wasn't a bad decision, but would like to still have that Wal now or even know where it is as I beleive there weren't that many made. Funny I have gone full circle with my Basses and ended up using Fenders again, as I started out with lol.
2. Not every song needs to be filled with as many notes as you can get into the bar. You can be melodic with just selective notes as well. Sounds to me like you need to step back and try and get into the groove of what your playing a bit more.
3. All the great Punk classics coming out was this what started the riots in the first place? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMlpqOsc2BU
4.
For the Blockheads' gig at Cropredy on Saturday.. Guy Pratt, apparently.
Cool. I'd love to see that, there is only one Norm! Should give Guy a good workout.
5. Back on track.. and Simmo from the Clash days for me as well..
6. At about 15, (roundabout 78-79) myself and mates were into the Punk thing (Do it yourself!), a friend already played drums (and very well I might add) so we decided to start a Band, I wanted to sound like Jah Wobble and another friend wanted to be like Mick Jones it was as easy as that and we did our first gig at the School disco lol. Isn't that how it was for everyone? Listening and playing along to records and watching peoples hands playing live was how I guess I learned or figured some of it out and that fuelled the passion. To this day I'm not very technical but still love to play. We all still play our instruments to this day (tho not together very often) I guess it has been somekind of life long therapy for us.
New Cab Day - yayyyy!!! Have just received my new Barefaced Midget, to go with my Barefaced Compact & Ampeg PF-500. Will update with a review of the stack once I`ve used it at a rehearsal, but just felt the need to share the joy today
That must sound great Lozz, can't imagine it gets much better.
8.
Just like mine! Brilliant cab and amp, the only problem I had was getting a good quiet sound hence the 1x12 in my sig.
Yes it is a bit loud! Can't wait to be able to turn it up a bit at practice next week. Think I'll be leaving the cab at the rehearsal place... Headphone out is handy on the amp, plus I have a TC Electronics combo that will stay home for prractice.
9.
Looks nice!
Cheers. Thats your old P- in the shot as well Lozz
10. Hopefully the amp and cab lust are over for a while. Just picked this head and cab up today. Looks like I'm a certified GB fanboi now lol.
11. Congrats Chris, looks the Biz. I just had to delay on ordering the Super twelve, but have now seen a GB NeoX 212T going locally for a decent price. Decisions, decisions.
12.
I asked a similar question recently (see below thread link) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry1301011
Thats fine and I read that thread! but my questions were more aimed toward anyone using Gallien Kruger neo's and the Shuttle 6 and 4ohm vs 8 in cab choice with that specific amp.
13. Hi Guys. Hopefully you aren't tired of these kind of endless threads. I have been trying on my own first honest! I'm after a little bit of advice with regards to matching up a Genz Benz Shuttle 6 that I have just bought with a decent fairly lightweight cab, to be used for gigs rehearsal etc. I'm using a 2x10 combo atm, but feel like it's not moving enough air and lacking some bottom end. Another problem being there are no decent music shops near me that carry any range of stuff that I can try first and the secondhand market is very slow here! So it will be through Thomann or similar. I was looking at the Barcefaced Super 12 but seems like they might run a bit over budget for me atm. I like the idea of a 2x12, I was looking at the GK neo stuff, anyone use them? How do they match up with GB heads? GK 2X12 Any other options around that budget I should be looking at? and... would I be better off going 4ohm and a single cab to get the full wattage out of the shuttle or maybe go 8ohm and try and match 2 cabs? Volume- wise I do ok now with my TC Electronic BG500 combo Thanks.. Edit. I did the right thing in digging deep and ordering a Barefaced Super twelve
14. These forums are bad, lol, now I have lust for that Classic Vibe 50's (in Blonde) and now today that White 70's P! Help!! I prefer the old days when you could be completely oblvious of what was around.
15. I'm a convert to OBBM as well, Ordered on Friday and had them in my hands here in Finland on Wednesday.
16. Take 5 Pretty good touch on the drums as well, shows it doesn't have to be all "bash and Crash"
17. Great that the Chromes did it for you, I tried them on a fretless I had but found them a bit too high tension and brite for my taste, even after a few months playing them. I now swear by La Bella 760FL's they are on my P and J and the only string I can see myself buying for a while to come it's nice when the search is over lol.
18. I've only had one early 92 Mexican (standard, I think thats what they call them?) Fender Jazz bass and it was very disappointing to say the least, I bought it blind without trying! I also have a 2009 USA jazz, but decided to spend a bit of money getting DiMarzio Noiseless pickups installed on the MIM to try get rid of the awful buzzing from the stock pickups and also try give it a bit more punch but it was still a let- down, that has convinced me that I'm better off going straight for the USA versions than trying to mod what was in my case an inferior bass (it was a lemon). You do pay a bit more but should get some return on a USA Fender if you need to sell. I have read that the later model Standard MIM's are better and they could well be, but in my case I won't be buying another, or if I do it will be one I can get my hands on and try first, lesson learned.
19. I just visited my Luither today and asked him about aging in instrument's woods and the differences it can make, he reckons as the wood gets older the canals in the wood open up more and form small bubble chambers, the sound can then resonates in (more, many) different directions throughout the wood and thus he reckons opens the sound up more. No idea but thats what he told me and he loves his wood As many people have said it's how it sounds and feels to you that makes the instrument special.
20.
and cool down your tea faster... sacrilege
It was coffee that might be even more sacrilegious!
21. I have been using the 210 version for almost a year now and can't really fault it. I find It's very versatile in it's sounds (maybe because I had been using a Trace Elliot GP 12 for the past 20 years lol) It could be a bit heavy for some, but for me it lives at rehersals and only gets carted off to gigs a couple of times a month, It's nice and feature rich if your looking for a combo.
22. As the title says summer is here in Finland and I like nothing more than going through a few lines practicing sitting outside. Thought I'd post a pic of how I do it (another hobby of mine is photography) Pandora PX5 and an ipod touch make the job easy. (That's the P-bass I bought off Lozz here on Basschat, strung it with La Bella flats and it's been sweet) Summer Rocks! Hope the sunshines soon for you guys in the UK
23. Personal stuff but.. It was a definite intention for me after going to see the Clash for the first time and watching Simonon throwing his bass around and looking that cool, how could you not want in!.. ......I was a big Public Image Ltd /Jah Wobble fan as well, bass was where it was (and still is) at for me. Thats all it took for a young impressionable 15 year old to get hooked on trying to playing bass. The Clash PIL
24. Makes me kinda sad to see he's selling it if I'm honest Wonder why? I know he's still pretty pissed off at getting next to no Clash royalties for his work with them Can't be skint can he?
