1.
A PLETHORA OF FUNK TONE.
That is one of the best sentences I've ever read. And that includes the Sun's coverage of the Michael Barrymore swimming pool incident. Truckstop
2. The idea behind modding a bass is to make it something that you, specifically, want to play. Unless you know what you want out of an instrument, I wouldnt bother. Only recently, I've discovered that I want a Jazz bass with a much wider tonal spectrum. So I'm swapping out the Pre-amp for a John East Retro to try to acheive that. It's not just aimless tinkering, I have a goal in mind. If you're trying to make this bass sound nicer for you, before spending money, make sure you actually want to play it! Anyway, personally, I think that pick-ups change the overall sound of a bass more than anything else does. As for playability, all you can change really is the neck. If you've got a Precision neck, but prefer the shape of a Jazz neck, swap it. Then it'll be nicer for you to play, you might play better and then you won't need to worry about changing the electrics. Perhaps! Truckstop
3. I think BurritoBass had his flightcased in Orange livery? Truckstop
4. Nordstrands look quite good. A bit expensive though! Truckstop
5. When I saw this guy for the first time (Bubinga5 put a clip up), I instantly changed my playing style when I'm doing funky chops. I used to always play the string between the neck and bridge pickup, but now I play behind the bridge pickup and suddenly it's just so much easier to get those runs and octaves tight! Great player, true groove! Truckstop
6. You know, I never really had Wal GAS before, but looking through this thread I've noticed that they actually look really really elegant, sophisticated and just classy. And I don't really like black basses either but for some reason black Wals look the sex! Shouldnt have looked at this thread Truckstop
7. I have a Yamaha synth and I just tape down a note to practise scales and things to a drone. Can also set it to play kind of like a metronome, so it helps with my timing too. Truckstop
8. "...and it sounded like someone building a shed with a drumkit." Pretty sure I stole that from someone here though... Truckstop
9. If anyone further afield wants to buy this, I can collect and deliver for some petrol money? Dont want it myself, but if someone wants it but is too far away, I'll grab it! Truckstop
10. So sexy! Truckstop
11. One was up for £100 a few weeks ago and that went nice and quick. Problem is, is Rockbasses simply aren't worth as much as they should be! Warwicks are massively out of fashion and for £140/£150£170, you could get a nice CV Squier and there's a lovely Farida Jazz up as well. P's and Jazzes are in fashion right now so if people are in the market for a cheapy, they're not going to look at a Roackbass unless it's dirtcheap. Not saying you guys are asking too much, not at all! I think they're good basses and they're worth that much. Just no-one wants to pay it! Truckstop
12.
We ve all been there. Nerves are good as it makes you sharp. the trick is to turn nervousness into excitedness (if there is such a word) To do that you need to replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts until you start feeling good about the rehearsal Visualise yourself playing at rehearsal and enjoying the whole vibe. Watch your visualisation like a movie every day and it will build your positive thoughts. Visualise in colour and turn up the volume in your head. it will soon become your default minset. Give it a go. It works for me
+1 Visualisation is the way to go, big time! Just make sure you warm up a little before you play and make sure you're sitting in the mix properly and, for gods sake, don't forget to have some fun, eh? Truckstop
13. I used to tap all the time but then I realised that it must have sounded awful to the ears of the audience and must have looked pretty sh*tty too. Now I only ever tap to provide a harmony if it's too far to stretch. Truckstop
14. These are wick amps, someone simply must buy it at this price! I'd buy it if a 400RB wasn't already perfect for my needs. Truckstop
15. Surely just 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulance? Truckstop
16. Peavey Milestone? Truckstop
17. What's wrong with it? It SOUNDS AWESOME so what's the problem? Truckstop
18. Just get a keys player and a drummer and work though some motown/stax/northern soul like everyone else is saying. Truckstop
19. Yeah, I'd say one big ad. There's no need to list ALL the specs for each one, a few good pictures says more than the specs will. If they're high end instruments, people will email for more information and to arrange to try them anyway. Truckstop
20. Groove, mate. Groove. Truckstop
21. Yeah, and I'm sure you could involve a midi controller in there somewhere. But basically, I don't see the point in having guitars, bass, keys/synths and vox all delayed! Truckstop
22. I would say a precision is the top pickup and a telecaster has the bottom one? Truckstop
23. Yeah, I was also wondering why Wal don't just employ another person to help clear the backlog and improve the rate of construction. Im sure there's plenty of people who would be put off ordering a Wal if it took that long to get it in your hands. So maybe if they got someone else in, then they would sell more? Truckstop
24. I like delay, but I can't really use it in the band because the vocalist/keyboarder and the guitarist use delays a lot and I think a third one'd just be silly. It's hard to match tempo too and it'd just end up a mess! Truckstop
