Yep, stands, leads and mics will take up 20-30% of your budget. Samson Q7's are really good vocal mics in the £20-£30 range and their Q4's (£20-£25) are good for mic'ing guitar amps, drum over-heads and snare. I use them to mix up my band and they work perfectly well. Never had any distortion problems and they have a nice high-mid hump. Don't be tempted to go cheap on stands; really not worth it as you'll end up buying again in a years time. Spend at least £25 per stand and they'll last for years. I like Quiklok because they're good value and well made. Mackie SRM450's are well thought of and easy to come by second hand. You could get a pair for £400-500 depending on condition. They'll easily handle all the vox, a touch of guitar and touch of kick drum. Perfectly suitable for pubs and clubs. I've used my own pair for a while and I like their sound and volume capabilities. Some people think they sound brittle, but I prefer to think of it as glassy and vocals cut through really well. Behringer mixers are well thought of and can be had for not much money. I'm sure I saw a 12 channel one go for £120 on eBay recently? That would be perfect; small, light and plenty of functionality (effects and plenty of aux-outs for monitors and suchlike). As for cables, see if you can find a job lot of XLRs on eBay or something. Good cables will be at least £20 each! Get a spread of lengths. Sometimes you'll want 5x10m cables and sometimes you'll only need some 5m cables. Best of luck!

Respraying a bass or stripping down to bare wood
Truckstop replied to kevvo66's topic in General Discussion
It would cost at least £350 to have it refinished professionally, I'd think. It's less hassle to just sell it and buy another one! -
£55 is well pricey! I had one made for a Precision and a Blazer and they cost around £25 each from the Doctor of the Bass on this forum. Although they were just 3-ply black. Maybe tort costs more?

Definitely! For the last two and a half years I've been using my BB424x and it really is the best instrument for me. I've used other basses at jams and when I try out other basses at shops and stuff I always think that they're not as good as my 424. Whenever I get it out of the case and jam with it it just does everything I want it to.
We played a hotel near Gatwick, nice place: 4 star, £90 a head party and it was chaos! The hotel lost everyone's pre order of the menu so people had to wait an hour and a half for their mains, some of them didn't manage to get desserts. They didn't have enough bar staff so it was about a ten minute wait for drinks. It delayed our start by 45 minutes so we had to cut our first set down. The audience were thoroughly p'd off by the time they came into the dance hall, we got them dancing in the end but it was bloody hard work. Not surprisingly lots of complaints to the hotel managers etc I reckon they'll end up giving refunds - better luck next year eh!
Oh god! Coming from a hospitality background I know what an absolute nightmare something like this can be! My skin's crawling just thinking of it
Because it is cool and I like it!
Well that's fair enough! -
Maybe a fault with the pots or caps? Sounds to me like maybe the pickups are are half volume or half power or something and the controls might be restricting the full range of tone? In my opinion, the effect of the wood that a bass is made of has little to do with the end tone. The strings and electrics have more to do with it. If the strings are new, than maybe the electrics are shagged?
-
Thank god for that! Although I would say that a PF500 may not be the most reliable alternative. The PF800's are not as unreliable, see if you can get one of those instead? Also, more power

First try adjusting the height of the J pup so that the output matches that of the neck pups, if output gets too high, then you could try lowering the height of the neck pups to compensate and get them properly balanced. As someone else said, drop kiOgon a line and he'll make a wiring loom for whatever you want. Whether you want V/V/T or Blend/T/V at a very reasonable price. He can do solder less looms too so you it couldn't be easier to drop it into the cavity. If you're not happy with it, drop me a line and I'll see if I've got enough spare cash to buy it off you. I love Blazers I do

Hello all, happy new year! Had a stormer at The White Bear in Rickmansworth! Pub is owned by an Indian family and the food they gave us before we started was top-notch. Had a belly full of chicken Cylon All the punters were up for it big time and it really couldn't have gone better. Except that we ended up playing Mustang Sally twice(!). Everyone was receptive, everyone danced and we got three more gigs out of it including a wedding. Really happy! Money wasn't amazing, but we wanted a small local pub gig this year. Less hassle, less pressure and no need to pull out all the stops with PA, Lights, stage show and clothing etc. I think we, as a band, enjoyed it more too. Going back to our roots, so to speak. How did everyone else get on?

So you have a bass which is "ok and usable" at best?! Why not buy something that you like? -
Get it printed on good quality paper too, makes all the difference in the flesh.

I always wondered why most bass manufacturers don't use bolts to secure the neck to the body or at least threaded inserts for the screws to screw into? And why not use bolts and threaded inserts for string trees too? Once it's come out once or twice then the screw hole is worn and you need to fill it. Pain in the arse! -
A DeArmond Jetstar was the most horrible piece of crap I ever owned. Pickups weak and microphonic, wiring loose and messy, bridge cheap and stiff, plastic tuning pegs that didn't work, horrible body shape that was desperately uncomfortable, horribly neck dive and impossible to intonate properly. Bought it for £60 off eBay and instantly regretted it. I sold it on here a week later for a tenner and I think I ripped the guy off.

He's The Greatest Dancer! Lovely baseline, great groove.

Hair metal , or death metal?
Truckstop replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
Very briefly and there's plenty of argument but here's some to try out: Thrash - 80's metal. Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer etc Death - 80's into 90's. Cannibal Corpse, Carcass Death Core - 00's into 10's. Bring me the horizon, Misericordiam, Sucicide Silence Grind - 80's into 90's. Death, Napalm Death Grind Core - 00's into 10's. Atrocity Exhibit, Bring me the horizon Black - 80's into 90's. Mainly Scandinavian, lots of make-up. Melodic - 00's. Killswitch Engage, In Flames Melodi-core - 00's. Killswitch Engage, Beneath it All Melodi-death - 90's into 00's. Opeth Rap - 00's. Limp Bizkit, mainly Nu - 00's into 10's. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Slipknot. Attitude more than music style. Dent - 10's. Fell Silent, Meshuggah, Monuments Groove - 90's to 10's. Meshuggah, Down, Lamb of God Power - evolved from speed thrash with a touch of melody. 00's. Dragonforce Industrial - 90's to 10's. Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson Madcap - 00's. Linea 77, Sikth Electro - 90's to 10's. Mad Capsule Markets, Enter Shikari Post [metal] - 10's. Largely instrumental. Some Mogwai, explosions in the sky etc Symphonic - 00's. Extension of black metal. Dimmu Borgir etc Doom - 90's to 10's. Early Anathema, My Dying Bride There's a lot more out there and many of the bands I've listed span many styles. I've left out punk because I don't think that it's metal. Listen to some of those bands and see what you think! -
That bass collection would be a great buy. I'd nab it myself if I had the spare cash! I used to have a fiver and it was a really good quality instrument. Good tone controls, light weight and they look pretty good too if you don't mind non-traditional aesthetics. Can't go wrong with a Yamaha BB424. I've been using mine almost exclusively for the last two years and I bought mine second hand for £220
-
I'd be expecting a company like Warwick to replace the TR free of charge. You've already paid for the instrument and it's defective. Really shocked and surprised at their behaviour over this.
-
That is insane. It's a complete rip-off and frankly I'd tell them to sit on it and swivel. How much would a new one cost?

Guitarist obsessed with scooped tone is driving me crazy
Truckstop replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
Just leave before it drives you completely mad. What does the rest of your band think? Surely your 1st guitarist would be just as annoyed as you! Maybe he just doesn't realise how serious this is and needs to be told that if he doesn't rethink his tone then he'll need to find another band. -

Just found the review I did of it back in January 2013 when I bought mine,so, amazingly, nearly 3 years ago! I still use it every week and it still has no rips, tears, breaks, holes or bits missing. Very happy!
