Well, I tried it last night and it appeared to not work. The can said to wait 40 minutes before doing anything, so maybe it hardened again? It did, however, soften the lacquer considerably, so I rinsed the nitro mors off with a cold shower and managed to sand most of the lacquer off leaving the primer underneath (after an hour or two!). I'll attack it with nitro mors again later and hopefully i'll get the timing right and it'll all come off nice and easy. Thanks for all your help everybody! Truckstop

Burrito, I'm about to embark on a stripping job of a '97 Jazz, and I was curious to note you use a method that doesn't involve the use of power tools. What is nitro mors? And is it easy to use without making a massive mess? Loving your stripped basses by the way, they've sort of inspired me to strip the jazz and sexify it! Cheers Truckstop

That STR jazz is incredible!! Truckstop -
Depending on where in london you are, Bassdirect's only an hour and a half up the M40. I'm St. Albans and I can crack it in about 1hr 45 on a good day! I'm one of those who can't pracise Bassdirect enough though! Truckstop

Fender introduce new Mark Hoppus Sig Bass
Truckstop replied to absolutpepper's topic in Bass Guitars
I think I prefer the old one better. Mark had/has a Salmon one at Bassdirect for £350 which, in person, looks pretty wick. Truckstop -
I'll do you a favour and take it off your hands for a ton. Truckstop

GB Rumour. 'Nuff said! But yes, nice to meet people and have a good chat. A couple of 'firsts' for me. Had never played a Rickenbacker, a Warwick, a Gibson or an EUB before sunday. Great fun! And thanks to Ricky for sorting it all out for us and supplying a tub of Celebrations. I might have nipped in and grabbed a few Teasers. Sorry. See you all next time!
ainsley walker Posted Yesterday, 07:46 AM I might be interested in this I'm new to this system of how the buying is sorted out but I'm definitely interested
Basically, if you want to buy something, MAKE SURE YOU WANT TO BUY IT! Then, you can PM the seller (click on their name and 'contact member' is on the dropdown list) asking any questions such as, in this case, you may want to ask whether there's a box and instructions with it, velcro stuck to the underside or query the general condition. Make sure you are courteous to the seller because he may well just decide to sell it to someone else just because you're a bit rude. Then, you can either haggle over the price, or just pay what the seller's asked for. If it's a pretty niche item, you it may be worth haggling, but if it's an item that many people appear interested in, you're best off just offering what the seller's asked for. So, the price has been agreed. Then, you must decide how to exchange the product for the money. Some buyers like to pick the item up to check the quality, and especially with guitars, amps and cabs, make sure they sound good and then they can provide cash for the product. Some buyers, however, are happy that the product is sent to them through the post or via courier (for larger, more expensive things) and the money is exchanged through paypal or bank transfer. I think some people do cheques... but um... no. Congratulations! You are now a basschat trader! Truckstop -
I would love to know how he achieves the gold finish on some of those quilted maple basses. Absolutely gorgeous. Loving the 9,500 year old oak one too, but it'd be better if he could have split the headstock aswell and not just the body. Matching grey and blue headstock would be amazing! Truckstop

In which position would you add the push-pull pot? The master tone, neck vol or bridge vol? Truckstop

And if you spend £100 on a set of pickups and it still sounds rubbish, you've still got £100 pickups to put in another bass someday and you've learnt how to solder/install pickups! Truckstop

I love checking out this thread occasionally for the music posted. Still raving over that Pat Methany stuff pasted on page 16. Loving it! Truckstop

I'm quite liking the idea of a valve amp suitable for home practise. I simply wouldnt bother buying a 200w valve head because IME you gotta crank valve amps to get the better sound. Is it possible to make a valve head that can be switched between 30-50w and 200-300w? This way, the 30-50w side is great for home use, and the 200-300w side is wick for live use. Truckstop

Anyway, I had incurable GAS for a bass of some sort and flirted with a few G&L's. But after getting my MIM Jazz V I decided I wanted another Fender so I trawled the local shops (Hooters, Music Dpt. (Both St. Albans) and Machinehead in Stevenage) and found that an 80's Precision would make me happy; soundwise and pricewise. So, I checked out BassDirect and saw a lovely looking '83 fretless precision for a more than reasonable amount of money I reckoned. I hadn't really thought about getting a fretless, so I thought I'd better try it out. Anyway, I went to Leamington and tried it out and it was gorgeous! A real subtle 'mmwwaahhh' and a wonderfully fast neck (apparantly, '83 precisions have a unique neck profile). Also came supplied with a healthy dose of mojo, a tweed case, and a leather strap! I decided that I would quite like to buy it and take advantage of the 'take it away' deal. However, after a quick credit check, 'twas not allowed. It seems that being in perfect financial health is not conducive to obtaining finance deals. Mark explained that the reason I was unsuccessful was probably because I rent and because I don't have a credit card. Ah well. I left dejected. So, later that night, I whined to my mum about it and she offered to pay for it for me and I could pay her back over an amount of time. Great! Rang Mark up and asked if he took cheques (he does) and moresoever, he was willing to let me come buy the next day and pick it up and drop the cheque off without waiting for the cheque to clear!! Absolute lifesaver because otherwise I would be facing another 4 hour round trip sometime next week. He also made sure the electrics were in working order and swiftly re-soldered the jack for me. He's courteous, interested in your wellbeing, and very knowledgeable about all things bass!! Cheers Mark Alex
