Isn't anyone worried that it's so light? I find that ultra light cabs tend to lack that certain... je nais se quois? I dunno, they just seem to lose a bit of projection and bassiness. I can't describe it! Truckstop

Every year on my birthday, I change the strings, wax/clean the fretboard (depending on whether it's the washburn or the yamaha), check the pups, the jack sockets and the knobs to make sure they're all working properly, buff the hardware a little and just give a good clean to get rid of all the dust. This way, it feels like I have two new basses every year! I also tend to my cases to see if the locks are sticking or to make sure the joints aren't getting too rusty etc. Day to day I keep them in open soft cases. I also carry out basic checks on my cabs and amp. I know it sems ridiculous to carry out all this work once a year. After all, if something breaks... it breaks! But for me, my birthday is when I first started playing bass 9 years ago and it just really makes me happy and it's just a day that I can set aside to do stuff that I really want to do. I actually get really excited! Truckstop

Personally, I'd rather splash out on a good amp. It's inconvenient for me to lug around a cab and amp, so I need an amp that will make ANY cab sound good. I love my GK. Truckstop

Hello all, The nice bit of labernum I've got's gonna be seasoned and ready to turn into a bass after xmas, so I need to start thinking about the neck. I've only ever made bolt-ons before so I'm slightly worried as to how the thru-neck's gonna turn out. Basically, I need to know if there are any special tools or techniques one can use to ensure that the wings are totally flat against the neck? Or is it a case of taking extra care with the cutting and sanding? Also, can anyone recommend a particular glue? It's a double-cut, by the way. Actually, would a single-cut be easier for a first-timer thru-neck? Thanks Truckstop

Get a '51 P! Truckstop

Yes! Soon, fretting the note properly will be second nature. Speed will also come to you, strength, stamina... everything! It'll hurt for a while as the tips of your fingers develop callouses (unless you're already well calloused from saxophoning(?)), but after, it'll be fine. Totally natural. I remember struggling to get the note to ring true for a while, and then eventually it just came to me. However, if it's buzzing on an open note, maybe your string height is a little too low? You might be better off getting a slightly less expensive bass and actually investing in a good amp instead. Alot of the 'sound' you might be after, may actually come more from the amp rather than the actual bass itself. Failing that, just try try try and try some more. Also, I think the riff of death for bass in guitar shops is 'Another One Bites The Dust', so get that down pat! Truckstop

Would you like to put my Boss ODB-3 in the raffle as a booby prize? You're welcome to it. Otherwise I'll be wandering around like the opposit of a hobo actually forcing into someones hands! Truckstop -

I've never really been a fan of vintage basses, but I gotta tell ya, I love the look of '51 P's. I really do. Damn you, Emerald City Guitars!! Truckstop

The never ending quest for the lowest possible action
Truckstop replied to CHRISDABASS's topic in Bass Guitars
I quite like having quite a high action for my playing hand and but I love having a nice low action on the fretboard, so I just sink the pups a bit rather than mess with the action. I'd rather be playing comfortably than worrying about changing the sound by moving the pups. Truckstop -
Took a punt on a Squier and my thoughts are....

I really want squier to start making 6 string '51 P's. Truckstop -
low tuning, finger playing, flapping strings, thumb rest?
Truckstop replied to Chest Rockwell's topic in General Discussion
+1 for just buying a thumbrest. I wouldn't change the set up of your bass when you already got a good sound out of it. There's no need to over-complicate things. Truckstop -
I passed my Grade 8 when I was 17 and I don't think I've ever played to that standard since! Truckstop

I'd get in contact with the other 6 bands and ask them for a score each. f*** 'em. They should have their own gear. The worst types though are the promoters that don't even bother organising gear at all. You turn up with all of your stuff and then the guys from the other bands ask you to borrow your stuff literally half an hour before they're due to go on. I say "Money talks, mate". If they don't cough up... sorry, you should've arranged something beforehand with the other bands or with the promoter. Only a bloody moron would turn up at a gig without organising backline. I bought my RBXJM1 because it was the only six string RBX I could find in Turquoise! I don't really mind that it's got "John Myung" on the headstock, it's still a great bass and besides, it was cheap for a sig. bass too. But yeah, if I was gonna spend four grand on something, it wouldn't be a sig. I could order my very own unique Shuker or GB for that. Truckstop
