Hello all, Selling my Ampeg PF-350. You'll have noticed the low price! It's been in my cable case for 18 months so it looks pretty tatty; there's paint missing, scratches everywhere and generally in poor condition. I took the little handles off so it'd fit in my case better; I will re-attach them before being sent off. I've used it for over 50 gigs with no problems but on three occasions it's done the whole cutting put thing that PFs are famed for. Turning it off and on again solves the problem in the short term. Otherwise works fine: DI's great, all the sockets work without noise and the headphone and Aux-In make it perfect for silent practice. This is priced to sell, so no offers other than £80 paid in cash or bank transfer. Collection from St. Albans ok, happy to deliver locally for a bit of cash and happy to post to mainland UK for £10. Picture! Hello all, Here for sale is my GK MBE212 cab. 600w at 8ohms. Very loud, clear sounding with a nice room filling low-mid emphasis. Very light indeed, an easy one hand lift. Mind you, it's still quite bulky and you'll need a fairly large boot to accommodate it. I fit it in my Focus with no worries at all. Has a switchable tweeter/horn which works fine and a single speakon connector on the back. Comes with a Roqsolid cover that it's had from new and is in 9/10 condition. Slight scuffs on the corners and there's a small scrape on one of the sides. This is priced to sell, I will not entertain any offers other than £125 paid in cash or bank transfer. I am able to deliver a reasonable distance for some petrol money but would prefer collection from St. Albans (AL2 1QU). ON HOLD! Now, look at the pictures: Thanks! Waking Aida - Instrumental Math-/Post-Rock

Late to the party! Really enjoyed this, kind of like a more energetic Yndi Halda and a cleaner Mogwai. Really like it! -
Wow, as far as amateur songwriting and production goes that's pretty much at a pro level! Sounds great and I really enjoyed the song. I think I might have preferred louder drums, but that's purely a personal thing. Nice one!

Hello all, So my band has been looking for a keyboard player for a while now and I thought I'd try on Basschat! We're currently a fourpiece playing a good mix of party songs but we'd really like to get some more disco and pop in the set. We'd need keys to make this happen! We're aged between 20-30, we're based in Wooburn Green (on the outskirts of High Wycombe) and we're of a good standard. We'd expect a keyboard player to also be of a good standard with own gear and transport, of course. Because we don't have keys yet we haven't booked any gigs, but once we're rehearsed we'll be investing in high quality recordings, agents, videos and website to really push into the wedding/function market. You'll need to be 20-30, male or female, and you MUST be able to provide solid backing vocals. We are looking for a full time band member rather than a dep. If you're interested, please get in touch and I'll be happy to answer any questions Cheers Alex

Hello all, We're looking for a bassist to take my place so that I can switch to keyboards. We've been looking for a keyboard player for ages with no luck so this is the most obvious way! We're currently a four-piece, all aged 20-30 and we're based in Wooburn Green which is on the outskirts of High Wycombe. We are a start up project and because we haven't been able to find a keyboard player we haven't booked any gigs yet. However, we do have enough music ready to go and the second we're rehearsed with keys we're pulling the trigger on top quality recordings, videos, website and agents. We play to a high standard and we'd expect you to also play to a good standard. Obviously your own gear and transport is essential and we'd like you to be well versed in many styles of popular music. You should be aged between 20-30, male or female and you MUST be able to provide solid backing vocals. Please get in touch if this interests you and I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have! Cheers Alex

Steve Wishnevsky of Wishbass fame's workshop just burned down.

Oh god, what a disaster! Gutting that he won't get any insurance payout either. I wish him the best of luck. -
When I was a teenager I was listening to bands like Slipknot, Deftones, Limp Bizkit and Korn a lot. Paul Grey (RIP), Chi Cheng (RIP), Sam Rivers and Fieldy just seemed so much cooler than everyone else! I always used to keep my eye out for bassists in Metal Hammer and Kerrang! and I don't know why, I was just more interested. For my 14th birthday Mum and Dad bought me a Squier P and a little 15w Watson combo and I was away

Sell them all mate. They're only pieces of wood and metal! No point in getting sentimental over something that's easily replaceable. If you need the money and/or fancy a go at a 6 banger, then what's stopping you?

Turn the bass control nearly completely OFF. I did it a year ago and it's changed my life! Much more expressive, cleaner, drier, distinct and there's more room for everything else on stage/in the venue. I can get more volume out of a lower powered amp, low B sounds epic, note clarity is improved, dynamic changes in playing style are enhanced and generally everything is better! I always wondered how to get the sort of tones you always hear on recordings and it's achieved by removing most of the bass! Try it for a couple of weeks and see I you don't think you sound better. -
Had one for six years and I wish I'd never moved it on. Immensely versatile and the boost knob gives a nice touch of grit. Switchable pre/post EQ DI is surprisingly useful and good quality. Never had any issues with it despite frequent touring and rehearsals (I kept it in a rack case) and it's a manageable weight. If you look for cheaper heads they'll likely get heavier and heavier. Seeing how cheap they are these days it'd be silly not to own one. They're obviously less powerful than the 700,1001 and the 2001 but there's more than enough to cope with a loudish band and small/medium venues through a decent cab. I moved it on because I got caught up in the whole light-weight amp head thing when, looking back, I was wanting for nothing!
-
Also, do you have a link to your music? I'd like to hear it!
-
Honestly, don't bother! Look at satellite towns like Watford, St. Albans, High Wycombe, Slough, Reading, Luton etc instead. There's less competition and they'll be cheaper to get to. Most of them have smaller intimate venues that you'll have a better chance of filling. Another good tactic is to look at University bars and venues. There'll be a captive audience and they always look after their acts. I wouldn't look at London until I was absolutely guaranteed a crowd. Otherwise it's just a costly and logistically nightmarish ego-trip. Good luck!

That is a bonafide bargain! Sadly too far for me and also having just spent a lot of money keeping the wife happy this weekend!
Elbow. Yes, dogshit.
Obviously I respect your opinions no matter how dogshit they are.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Yeah, drop the whole guitar down one and a half tones. Will be fine. You'll need to make sure you've got higher gauge strings to improve the tension though, otherwise the strings might be a bit flappy and uncomfortable to play.
-
Well then you're stuffed.

He uses synth for quite a few songs in their back catalogue. One Day Like This and Starlings spring to mind immediately. Great band and I'm infinitely jealous I hear they played Newborn for the first time in 10 years?

Strings... nickel/steel. I never realised I was a "steel guy"!
Truckstop replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
I always say to people that strings are a major player when it comes to inherent tone shaping. Want more zing? More thump? Want a Motown/rock/jazz sound? Change your strings! Personally I love LaBella Stainless Steels; prefect tension, feel and tone for me. Like Lozz, I prefer them once worn in! I only change them every two years. -

If you're coming past St. Albans, you could pop by and sort my garage out. It'll certainly be interesting and won't cost you a penny!

Difficult to come up with only one, but after re-reading the T's & C's I think there's a clear winner: Scenes From A Memory Pt. 2 - Dream Theater For me; evocative, romantic, nostalgic etc. Reminds of my teenage years, this album marks the last time I learnt songs for the fun of it rather than learning songs because I have to! Its a great album in it's own right anyway. The best they've done with Rudess in my opinion!

Looks awesome! Shame the De-Tuner's black though
