1. I can think of 2 other basses that should leave your posession before this one.... Poor lad, he's obviously not thinkin' straight.... Nurse! The screens!
2.
was it a trans blue L2K you got from him? If so,I saw it on ebay and was going to bid on it too. it looked like a sweet bass.
It is indeed that trans blue L2K - she's waiting on some TI flats and then she'll be just perfect - heavy beast, mind, nearly 11lbs. Dunno what wood it is, but it strikes me as heavier than your average Swamp Ash or Alder bass - i'll take a shot of the grain and let u guys decide maybe The L1500 has been an eye opener - bought it 'cos it was a US model and all i could afford at the time. Came strung with roundwounds and combined with the harsh preamp made it a bit of a turn-off. Wasn't even sure i wanted to keep it. Took a chance with a set of TI flats, and did the resistor mod on the preamp and all of a sudden it was like a different bass. G&L really need to review this model - with a few tweaks here and there it could be a good seller for them, rather than just a 'little bastard' brother to the L2K. As far as ASATs go, i want one because i saw Karl Alvarez from Descendents/ALL (one of my influences) play one - simple as that This is a good thread, but potentially not good for my bank balance
3. Thanks Dave - i appreciate your prompt reply and your wealth of knowledge!
4.
nig and gareth...really great pics. I see them and I want another G&L lol - nig havent you got some more to show?
I think nig has about 5 in each room of his house Bought a lovely L2000 from him recently, and he's quite the authority when it comes to these basses.... Which reminds me, i should get pictures of my brood up soon. Gigged my L1500 for the first time last night and it was pure joy! G&Ls should come with Thomastik strings on them as stock. Anyone got an ASAT they wanna get shot of - i really fancy one at the moment....
5. Care to explain a Baxandall eq design? I feel like such a tool cheers for the reply.... *edit* ok, i've had a bit of a read up so lets see if i can grasp this - would i be right in saying that the frequency bands in this type of eq interact with each other differently dependant on how much they are cut or boosted ie: make the mid-points appear to move/shift? and can i presume that 'noon' on each band would constitute a 'flat' eq? or am i talking out of my hole?
6. wow.... why don't you just go and live in Fullerton, get a job at the factory and save yourself a whole lot more.... To be fair mate, the 'rip-off britain' tirades round here are getting a little boring.... Seriously tho, you did set yourself up for that. Can we get back to gushing over the fittest basses in the world?
7.
Me?
Naw mate, the Holy Ghost....
8.
Ive been in contact with guitar man who has given me a pretty good quote, as I dont think I could buy direct, and I also got a quote from FCN and its pretty much double!!! I asked her at FCN if I should import one, and guess what she said, 'no you musntn't do that, but thru us', sod that for a game of soldiers! So maybe even fly out to NY in 12 weeks, pick it up, and have a little holiday!
What did you expect from asking G&L's UK distributors???? In all fairness to FCN (who are a great bunch of guys) they were quoting you the list price and would never recommend you do anything else other than purchase through an agreed source. Jeez, do some guys want a free lunch or what?!?!
9. I use a C-Tech Pocket-Rockit headphone amp which is fantastic for the pittance i paid for it - very simple layout and a line-in for cd/mp3 - good sounds and a great jamming tool....
10.
Any noticeable changes in quality that anyone’s aware of?
None whatsoever - Cort is still the manufacturer (AFAIK), they just moved production to another of their large factories. *oh, the bridges now say G&L instead of Tribute for what it's worth....*
11. Hi - i'm quite interested in the new EQ Drive, but i'd like a little more info on the EQ section's frequency bands if possible.... Cheers. Jim *apologies if this has been asked already*
12. The OBP1 in my fretless wouldn't work at all on 9v - it's the cube-shaped one - no idea how old....
13. AFAIK, Cort are still manufacturing them in Indonesia and the quality hasn't dropped one bit. Fantastic basses - i started with a Korean Tribute L2500, and since have bought s/h a lovely blue USA L2000 and my personal favourite, a sunburst USA L1500, which just kills with Thomastik Flats on it
14.
Hi, The final production of the VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive is now complete as the new PCB and design has been tested. Anyone waiting for a VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive will receive the new version in the couple of weeks. Pictures soon but it has the following features. VT1 valve overdrive with active EQ, Q sweep, balanced DI, line in/out, headphone amp, Colour switch, bright switch, selectable clean Boost with level, DI gnd lift. 10 knobs, 4 switches all on the top of the box. knobs - left to right (top row) i/p pad, Gain, Boost, Level, Q left to right (bottom row) Headphone/line out level, DI Level, Treble, Mid, Bass switches - left to right, Colour, Bright, Boost, DI gnd lift. connections - 1/4" jack instrument in and out. XLR balanced DI out 2.5mm power connector 2.5mm stereo jack headphone/line out 2.5mm stereo jack line in. The DI and line out/headphones are on all the time there is power connected but the EQ and valve drive is selected with true by-pass with the footswitch. The EQ is active and there is a mid range Q sweep. The line in allows the user to play along to backing, cd's, mp3's, iPod, etc. on the headphones/line out. Colour adds gain, distortion and compression - almost fuzz. Thanks to all for the comments and reviews which have helped develop this product. There is a short but very good review in the latest UK bassplayer mag. We are trying to keep the price low for a pedal with all these features as we see it as our volume bass product so keeping the £149 plus P&P and including Power supply for a while. Dave
Would 3.5mm stereo jacks not be better for the headphone jack/line out and line in? Headphones and mini stereo cables seem to be more readily available in these sizes (as far as i am aware). Colour me interested tho, especially as you now seem to have discontinued those kits you were doing....
15.
BIN's are also only available to people who have feedback over 15? is that right?.....I think its in the pipeline for these guys as soon as that happens. There was no 'bidding' on my item...the price stayed the same!
I'm sure you're correct - it's just i could have sworn they were all BINs when i checked the link out the other day.... I'd better find some junk to sell!
16. The LM2 does have two speaker outputs - one 1/4 inch and one Speakon/Combi socket....
17. Before i left my previous job i got a look at the latest Rosetti pricelist and was impressed by the (reasonably) low pricing of the Traben stuff - especially considering what you get for your money. They're also importing TecAmp now, which of course is right up the other end of the money scale
18. Ah jeez, i thought this was a proper shop - everything they have appears to be 'auction only'.... *talking about the ebay site*
19. Another beauty! It's quite a G&L-fest around here these days - must get mine up at some point....
20.
It's always been that way. It wouldn't surprise me if the thing was funding by Vintage (or whoever the parent company is)
Correct sir, it's the John Hornby Skewes 'ad mag' - seems to get everywhere these days - hasn't helped sales of Spongebob ukuleles tho....
21. That's a 'heavy metal' rig for sure....
22. Welcome to the party Doctor J! You have three beautiful children there
23. Try gettin in touch with G&L (or their UK distributor, FCN Music) for an 'authentic' part - that would appear to be an appropriate measure for such a glorious bass
24. The old Trace gear is great when it works. I loved the sound of my old 300W/GP7, but 3 times it blew its output transistors, 2 of those times taking my speakers with it (an enthusiastic lad at one party tried to assure me the burning smell was the party poppers that he had just let off - sadly not!). That final time was the last straw for me, and she was sadly relegated to 'possible future project' status (assuming i can find a way to power the preamp - i don't trust the power stage anymore). Solid and workmanlike - but treat with kid gloves whenever possible IMO....
25. Consider looking at the LM2's big brother, the SA450, which has a neat level control on the DI and a more tweakable EQ section....
