    I think those were imported by Strings&Things (Ernie Ball distributor).... nice and solid - no frills - like a jazzer should be i guess.
    Part of the thing with more [i]obscure[/i] brandings, is relying on a quality importer/distributor to cherry pick the best of the bunch. Unlike trash like 'Swift' guitars and basses, for example, which are obviously sold by someone who could care less :)
    Chinese production is a bit of a minefield, but it at least pays to have a try sometimes, as you have proved....

  2. I've had a similar experience - been playing full-scale basses for about 14 years now, and got myself some decent kit together - but recently playing has become more tiring and my hands cramp up alot (it almost feels like i'm stretching, where i wasn't before).

    Anyway, to cut a long, boring story short, i was in my local guitar shop recently and there was a tatty looking 30inch scale Westfield P-Bass on the wall, so for a laugh i took it down and had a quick noodle on it, and bugger me if it wasn't the most comfortable playing experience i've had in a long time! :huh:
    Really, i'm almost ashamed to admit it. Now it's not as if i've got short arms and small hands either, so what exactly made it so damned playable??

    Needless to say i hung it right back up, grabbed me coat and ran away....

    What's up with the lack of short-scale instruments on the market?

If you're using a Multicomp, Tubesim mode is a must for a bit of extra bite and 'girth' to the sound - also make sure you're not compressing the bass frequencies too much - this will actually make your tone thinner and weaker. If you haven't already, it's worth playing with the trimpots inside to get the most from this great pedal....

    Ditto - the Markbass amps don't seem to do 'quiet' so i often find myself setting the input gain and master at gig levels, then turning down on my bass to achieve a lower volume - generally i'm not too big a fan of soloed bass amps - they often sound much better where they belong - in the mix (or maybe it's my technique that's so poor :))

    Ah yes, i see what you mean now, sorry.... you must be in a real loud band for that to happen tho :)

  6. I agree - sometimes when i'm playing with my setup at home, i get a little dissatisfied with the sound, but as soon as i'm practicing with the band, i remember exactly why i bought it in the first place :)
    Btw, those filters are extremely powerful, especially in a band environment - i have both at 9 o'clock, works great for me, but you may find different settings suit your setup better....

Generally, clip-on tuners like this use a small transducer to detect pitch through vibrations, so should be unaffected by ambient noise - this looks very similar to a number of tuners doing the rounds at the moment. Good value, and i've found quite a few of them able to tune a low B as well. Some even have a standard 'microphone' mode built-in, so you're getting the best of both worlds....

  8. not essential - it really depends on what gauge you choose and how comfortably it sits over the saddle - i have a G&L 5string and was worried that my low B was a little indistinct, so i had Picato strings make me some taperwound replacements - can't say i really noticed a difference - if anything, the taperwound is harder to intonate correctly, altho it does fit in the saddle better....
    Give the stock strings a good play when it arrives and see what you think....

  9. Going riiight back to the first post - the deal with Cort and Elrick was a licensing one (much like Cort and Curbow) to manufacture an Elrick designed bass - they're soon to be discontinued tho (so a Cort rep tells me).

  10. Cort licensed the design from Greg Curbow (who passed away a couple years ago). Cort originally built the Curbow basses for Tanglewood, who took (stole?) the design with them when they split from Cort a while back.
    A Tanglewood rep confirmed to me that their basses and the Hudsons are 'one and the same'.
    A Cort rep simply looked bemused :)

  11. Before you start fiddling with the EQ, give the two filters (VLE and VPF) a little tweak - i've found them to be VERY responsive, and a quick way to try different sounds.
    Also, if the tweeter on the 15" is on, turn it down - it's too edgy, and not suitable for a 'classic rock' sound.

    *Leo's basses all seen to sound awesome through Markbass gear, don't they (just spotted the stingray) - try a little boost in the low mids to help bring the grunt and growl of the humbucker through for all to hear!*

  12. Hope you don't mind me butting in here, but what impedance does a Omni15 Tallboy end up coming out at? This build diary has had me intrigued from the get go, and i quite fancy having a try myself, but i always prefer the flexibility of two 8ohm cabs....

  13. These things really are Cort's secret weapon - wear it high on a strap, tucked under your arm and you'll hardly know it's there. Super comfortable, and the necks are pretty sleek and slim, too. And best of all, it's about ten times cheaper than the real thing.... They need to bring back the six-string version, fast!

  14. I suspect these may be the last Korean Tributes that Aria UK had before distribution moved to FCN in the uk - i picked one up with a moulded US hardcase for silly money at the time - and at the same time distribution changed, Cort (who build them) moved production to Indonesia.
    FCN have said nothing about production of Tributes ceasing, and it's probably the best-selling line - unlike the MM SUBS, the Tributes are built to a similar spec, but are all foreign parts (bar the pickups), so i cant see production ceasing because they are [i]too good[/i].
