First Bass! It was a lowly Black Stagg BC3OO. I must say it was appalling! It was so badly setup and the neck was disgusting! But i don't care cause i dont even have to look at the thing anymore!

Thats some really good advice there! Nice thread
Heres some pics of my kit. Firstly, my Ashdown Evo 500 4x10 Combo that I split into separates. Best thing I ever did!!! Heaviest amp Ive ever owned. Ive also included a pic of my pedal board as she stands, I am awaiting 1)MXR Flanger and 2) DHA Compressor + the delay is for sale. Last but not least my sleek and lovely ladies... my stunning Warwick and Stingray mmmmmmm I love them!
Nice equipment there! What do you think to the 4x10 Ashdown setup? Also ive been considering buying a Blowtorch, what are they like? Worth the dosh, cause im really tempted! Rich

How may Basses do we own collectively on Basschat?

+2 from me! 1256 -
I have myself a rather nice EHX USA BIg Muff, however i am extremely curious as to why bassists prefer the Russian. The reason alone that Mr.Wolstenholme uses one is actually enough to persuade me to buy it and experiment, but in what ways would you say that it is generally better for bass than its' USA counterpart? Thanks a lot guys as always! Rich
Just another thought - if you have a Korg AX3000B (I think you might have) then stick to the choruses on there. Miles better than a Boss.
Yeah youre right i do have that pedal and i love it! However the time will soon come no doubt that i will leave it behind and buy about 12 stomps to replace it lol

I use two fuzzes, a USA Big Muff Pi and one on my Korg AX3000B, both of which i actually really like and neither of which lose any lowend. The sustain does get a tad stupid on the USABM but even so i have a rather nice tone using an Epiphone Thunderbird (like yours ) and a USA Fender Jazz, both passive ofcourse. However i am bidding on a russian muff atm, considering the aclaim which it has amoungst bass players (check pedal boards on this site!). I would love an MXR Blowtorch though and/or a Depth Charge. Can't go wrong with a nice big Muff though, can you?! Rich

TBH there are a lot of really great pedals out there and as i have only tried a few i spose im not so qualified to answer, but i will anyway! I've got myself an ODB-3 and i really don't think it's as bad as many would say, worth £30 atleast. Just don't be a tool and go full gain really! I've also got a USA Big Muff which i actually really quite like however about 5mins ago i bidded on the russian counterpart, especially considering it's popularity amoungst bassists. I know this is more of a fuzz but even so i thought it was worth a mention. I've got to say though, perhaps my favourite distortion would be one that i created on my Korg A3000B and i really overuse it! It's very gritty but without too much gain, think Commerford and believe me im not far off. Hope that helped Rich

Hey there, Firstly let me say, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope you all had a good one and enjoyed spending your xmas dosh, as that's what i'm trying to do right now! I am hoping to buy a chorus pedal to be exact, amoungst other things. I play a passive bass if that is at all any help! I'm just looking for a quality sounding and versatile pedal, not necessarily boutique or anything though. To be honest i was thinking of jumping on the band wagon with a Boss CEB-3. Wise move or would you suggest something else entirely! Many thanks, Rich

The "Good customer service" thread
EskimoBassist replied to john_the_bass's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm not sure if you'll believe this but i'll say it anyway, SOUNDCONTROL! Now actually the branch at Stockton is FANTASTIC! Joe the Bass guy is top notch and helped me with my bass related problems. He was friendly and helpful and i really couldn't have asked for anything more! I bought a brand new Fender USA Jazz a few months ago and unfortunately nearly a move to the day the bridge pickup and the S-1 system gave up. Ofcourse we took this straight to them and they sent it off ASAP. I thoguht nothing of it but after a month or so i started to get itchy and i was glad i hadn't sold my last bass, as without it i would have been quite screwed, considering the gigs my band had booked to play. Originally Fender said i would have my bass back in perhaps two weeks max, but it was 2 MONTHS when i finally managed to get it back. For my inconvinience they gave me a rather nice set of Rotosound strings and bid me farewell! However, i noticed that my bass had incurred a few knocks and scratches whilst in the hands of the men at Fender. Ofcourse i mentioned this straight away to Joe and he was quickly on the phone to complain on my behalf. Needless to say he worked on them all day and actualyl secured me a REPLACEMENT BRAND NEW FENDER USA BASS IN THE SAME COLOUR WITH A PRO SETUP for FREE OF CHARGE!! Now what a guy?!!?! I must say i didn't expect to receive such great aftersales service, but really the customer does matter to this chain store which has undoubtedly incurred a bad name because of it's size. Whether or not the other stores live up to such a reputation remains to be seen (ahem *NEWCASTLE!*) but i know from now on i'll travel to Stockton when i get some GAS. Rich -
I think the GT6B is overly-complicated and has a very steep learning curve. The Korg AX3000B is a better effects box IMHO, and is more intuitive. The X3 is only £171 on Thomann.
Good call, sir, on the Korg. I've got one and i think its fantastic!

Squirt. ^_^

The GT-6B is perhaps the best Bass Multi Effects Processor around and in my opinion totally justifies its' seemingly high price tag, considering its' plethora of decent FX and its' versitility. Personally i do not use one, i play with a Korg AX3000B, which i actually prefer and its cheaper, with direct access to all your presets in the same way the Boss does. However, i think it is worth looking at some of the Line 6 Bass Gear as well, the Live XT is very good for example, especially with the emulated DI etc. To be honest it is all down to personal choice, i would believe the Boss would be the most popular out of the three i have mentioned, but that doesnt mean its best for you! I'd get to a decent guitar shop and have a play around, see what you like. Please don't discount the Korg pedal despite its' price, it's a bloody good pedal, deffinitely worth a look in. I use mine in conjunction with other stomps and it's fantastic! If you ARE worried about price though i'd check the forums on here and have a look on Ebay for some prime second hand gear. BassChatters are good to deal with ! Rich

Hey there! That's a beautiful bass, and if i do remember correctly i was going to buy that very bass and i would've done if i hadn't already bought one from sound control in newcastle that very day! Playing well? I should think so! I really should've looked in RockBox before i went through to newcastle, but there you go! Rich
-
That MESA amp is beautiful! I used one in the studio and it had such a beautiful sound, good choice!
-
First Bass ey! What a nice little topic It would be a Stagg BC300 in a gaudy black finish with tribal fret markers. The action was appalling and the neck was so slow! Thank god i now own two proper basses, but everyone's gotta start somewhere!! Rich

Thanks! BOB
These are an absolutely fantastic piece of kit! Ive only tried them out (extensively i may add) in the shop, but i was heartily impressed with it. The vocoder is great fun! I think they're worth every penny, so even better if you get one second hand. -

Hey Well i am a massive Rage and Audioslave fan and i must quote Commerford as one of my bass heroes. Hence i would love to be able to emulate his beautiful gritty sound. What pedals would you suggest from experience could bring me close to getting that, please? I do understand that his unique sound is the combination of his handwired pickups, his crazy amp/effects setup and his homemade distortion unit, but even so i would love to be able to play with such a fantastic tone. I play a Fender Jazz if that helps! Thanks alot for reading/helping! Rich
It appears you have been grossly misinformed about the sound of epi t-birds. You should try one for yourself before repeating such nonsense.
I have an Epiphone Thunderbird and in some ways i actually prefer its sound to my USA Fender Jazz. I couldnt recommend the bass anymore highly, ofcourse the neckdiove and its' shear weight is something to think about, but i believe these are only minor set backs. IT SOUNDS FANTASTIC!

I just bought a Boss GEB-7 from him for a fantastic price. Its practically brand new, in tip top condition, with a new battery and arrived just over a Day after payment. I can't fault his communication either, which was brilliant. I would mst deffinately deal with him again and i highly recommend him for any others to make transactions with.
The GodLyke PowerAll and the Rocktron DC OnTap come with a bunch of adaptors so I guess the one you need would be there... You can also buy many adaptors fom OneSpot I think. I suppose Diago might do it too, check their site, and maybe that guy here that makes cables, can't remember his name...
Thanks alot mate! Yeah turns our Diago do make them!
