That said Prolapse was a pretty good band. The male singer would down a can of beer per song then move on to bottles of red. The musical performance was impressive too!

I have used a Line 6 LowDown (Studio 110 I think it was), it was very small yet plenty loud when needed. It has a D.I. out too, headphone socket an aux in.

I'd say for the price you can't go wrong. My only observation is that the body looks a bit small, more like a 3/4 bass, say compared to a Squier Mustang or Bronco. Maybe more like a travel bass, but it may be the picture. My only short scale bass is a semi-acoustic, so quite a big body.

I can't answer the question, but I would imagine that yes it is possible to damage the speaker in this way. My amp has a VU meter and I stay clear of the red zone. Anyway reminded me of seeing a guy play the guitar with a spanner once. A good old metal spanner.

I have an Ashdown EB 15-180 combo, and all the knobs on it are the same size. The thing is that on all the sales product pictures the Lo-Mid and Hi-Mid knobs are smaller, like so: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:162383] And indeed as I took out one of these knobs I realised that their larger size was hiding some of the markings on the front panel (the 0 and full dot markers). I looked at pages and pages of knobs, large ones, small ones, soft ones, dull ones and shiny ones but I haven't found the perfect knob. I am not really sure what they are called but I could find some that are very similar (davies 1510 19mm I think) but they have a screw to hold them in place. I'd rather have push-on types like the originals. Oh, I did ask Ashdown and the ones they sell are the larger ones, they don't supply the smaller type.

Mac and Windoze versions. I am not a good judge of this, because I am rubbish at music, but it seems very good for notation. It's free, worth a try?

I mis-understood ahpook's post a bit. I thought he was saying that some semis had a contoured body. Anyway, I have just had a go on the Stylist and I do hold it differently. The body, as well as being deeper is also much bigger than a solid body, so instead of my forearm resting on the body it's really the crook of my elbow. I also tend to pluck closer to the neck.

Ahpook, I play mine mostly sitting down, at home. As Bolo said it is not as deep as an (electro) acoustic bass or guitar for instance, so it was fine for me on the few occasions I played it standing up. That said I am a rubbish player so it may be an issue for faster/better players used to solid bodies. I must say Bolo, thrash metal on a semi-acoustic huh?

But given there was a natural finish version it must have been decent! I am not sure what they mean by maple body and side, it could still be laminated, no? I remember reading somewhere that laminated was actually a good thing for full hollow bodies like the Stylist. Any body knows better? Oh, actually, re-reading the specs of the bass from the Dean site, the new Stylist cabbie is a semi-hollow construction! That would be how it's different from the original run.

Ray, have you got a cabbie one? I was never sure if those were different from the standard colour ones - they came out later. Most people change the pickups, I don't mind the sound but I think they should have been chrome. What do you mean by better body?

Dean have silently (?) added a new Stylist Cabbie bass to their 2014 catalogue: http://www.deanguitars.com/stylist_cabbie_bass.php I don't how (if at all) they differ from the original run from 2004. Maybe the pickups are different, the 2014 model boasts some DMT Design pickups. I have a black one from that time, but it looks like they only re-issued the cabbie.
