does anyone regret selling their first bass
FelixGubbins replied to SidVicious1978's topic in General Discussion
My first bass was a Kay copy similar to what Lemmy from Motorhead would use ... you know, one of THOSE! I didn't regret getting rid of it, but it would be kinda nice if I hadn't. -
Okay, so my friend has dropped the price again (I've updated the original post accordingly). He's also re-written the gumtree ad accordingly ... "This is a bass designed for a master player with the power and tone to deliver six and a half Octaves of musical power. Capable of effortlessly delivering regular bass lines or highly recommended for tapping and looping to create a massive musical palette. "The amount and quality of work invested in this instrument is simply beyong explanation and only viewing it in the flesh can truely give an indication oif this work of art. When some companies can charge £8000 for "private stock" guitars that are still off the self this as to be a serious contender as the ultimate bass. "Jim fleeting has a fast growing reputation in the UK and i believe it will not be long before his instruments command prices far exceeding the posted (and now lowered) price of this 9 string bass. "It has proved to be a talking point wherever I take it to play and is a real asset for a mortal bass player in commanding audience attention. It weighs in at 11Kg, comes with a hard case and I will say that after a short period of bedding yourself in it is in fact very easy to play. "I recognize this will not be everybody' cup of tea and will consider part exchanges for others basses, guitars, or amplification. However I am not prepared to drop the price to silly figures just to get rid...I would rather sit on it and wait untill Jim Fleetings guitars go the same way as Tony Zemaites and James Olson guitars....into the stratosphere price wise!" Sorry guys. The price I was asked to put it up for was a "Quick Sale" price. Seeing as that's not happened, my friend has decided that, if it's going to hang around, he would set the price at something more "realistic" for a one of a kind bass. As he's amended the gumtree entries to reflect the new price of £4,999, I thought I'd better change this ad as well, so I've amended the orignal post up top.

My friend Mike is selling this rather unique and, quite frankly, awesome bass guitar. This 9 string Bass, created by Jim Fleeting as an exhibition piece, is simply stunning. It is a real musician’s bass and has an awesome sound and capability. It is regularly tuned in stacked fourths (F#/B/E/A/D/G/C/F/A#). This guitar is easy to play but needs an accomplished or progressing bassist. My friend is a lead guitarist and his "bass antics are confined to root notes and the odd fill!" BTW, the scale length is 89cm/35"and it's 82mm across the nut. Wow! The asking price is £2,699 ovno (and that's another £300 price drop!), but he will consider a part exchange for a something tasty in the guitar or bass department, or amplification. By all accounts, Jim Fleeting is fast becoming renowned for his work so it should prove to be a good investment. I have played it myself and, having never played on more than a 4 string bass, I was surprised that I was able to make headway so quickly. A video of me playing it is below. To be fair, it was shot with a phonecam which was struggling to cope with the bass frequencies. At this point I'd been playing it for less than 2 hours off and on. Believe me, if I'd had a wad of money available, I'd have bought it myself, but I just can't justify it. This guitar is also listed on gumtree twice, here http://www.gumtree.c...change/99738338, and here http://www.gumtree.c...hange/100353151. A set of photos of the bass can be seen on my photobucket account at http://s33.photobuck...0String%20Bass/ Please feel free to contact Mike on the number on the gumtree pages. Thanks for reading.

[FS] - Fender Jazz Bass MIA 2008 - Blizzard Pearl - NOW SOLD

Personally, I love the look of a deep red Jazz with a black scratchplate, classic beauty, or a sunburst 4001. Already got the Ricky, just need the Jazz now.

I've got the body now, getting a chance to try before I buy. Don't know how much it'll be yet but I'm gonna see wht I can find out in the mean time. And, good news, my jazz neck should fit straight on as well ...
i wouldn't pay too much for it mind, really the JV squier export stuff is good, but there were many other JV guitars being made for the domestic market too, not knowing what it is at best it is a basswood body ... ... how does your friend know what it is? and where has he put the neck... maybe kill him to get the neck?
I was hoping for £100-150 maybe? The friend who has seen it is a friend of the guy selling it so it's a bit of a cold trail, but I do trust my friend's judgement. There never was a neck - I think the guy bought it as a body only (he collects guitar bits) but seeing as I'm more interested in it as a player bass rather than anything else (it's either this or buying a new Squier VM or CV Jazz seeing as I can't run to a proper Fender without express authority from management!). I'm hoping I can try it out first as I actually already have a jazz-style neck from eBay (£49) that I'm using on an old Jarock P bass that feels very nice (a bit like a VM neck, actually) so I can stick that on for now. Proper necks are a pretty penny to get

Hi Guys, I'm after some help with a possible purchase. I've been offered what is meant to be a fully loaded JV Jazz bass body that someone bought 10 years ago. As I've been after a Jazz for a while now, obviously I'm a bit excited, but I wondered how I could tell if it's a real Fender/Squier without a neck on it. Not sure it the neck plates there or not. The body is sunburst apparently and my friend reckons it's basswood. Any thoughts? In some ways it's academic as I think I'll probably buy it anyway, judging by a friends opinion of it, but I'd like to know what I'm looking at beforehand ... Cheers.

Terry I'm after doing the same sort of thing except I took the frets out of my bass years ago to make it fretless but now wish I had a second fretted bass. Felix

THought it was about time I introduced myself. Been playing bass for 29 years man and boy. Used to be in bands and played a good few gigs, generally playing blues, prog rock, rock or metal. For many years almost hung up the bass what with family responsibilities but lately have been regaining my interest and am looking at starting it all up again doing rock covers, though it's early days yet. Not much kit compared with some, I bet, but I do have a 1979 Rickenbacker 4001 with Bad Ass bridge and am looking to get a Jazz of some description (Geddy Lee clone?). Amplification is currently a 90W Carlsboro bass combo and a Peavey practice amp. First set up was a starting on a Kay shortscale Rickenbacker copy and a 100W Carlsboro Stingray head with 15inch speaker cab. I've got a 150W Roost valve head in the loft somewhere which I really should get fixed. Favourite bass player is Geddy Lee, with maybe Steve Harris a fairly close second, but there are so many really good bass players out there. Well that's me for now. Hope to get to know you guys ...
