1. I agree with the drums sounding to mechanical but IMO the bass sits just perfect with the guitars, given the style of music. To my ears, a bass player mixed this. They know about 'the mix' as opposed to 'the riff'. Good stuff.
 2.
it is a very complex subject which is unlikely to be analysed accurately unless you have a good background in the relevant sciences and are willing to throw aside the numerous misconceptions and hearsay surrounding 'tone'... Alex
God..... you sound just like BF!!!
 3. To me its all about the groove/timing etc. Apart from the tone, As long as timing is bang on every time I play, then all the rest is instrumental (pardon the pun!). All the little finger scrapes, fluffs, dead notes, bumps etc are part of me and my (lack of) technique. It's what makes bassists sounds themselves. If I wanted to sound so perfect I'd call myself Roland VB and marry a MIDI interface!! Have a listen to the isolated bass tracks thread and you'll hear that REAL bassists rule..... which includes all the sloppy sh*t!
 4.
I'd have thought it was obvious. Fusion gets described as paedophilia: that's utter nonsense. As I said earlier, I used to play fusion & would like to do so again, and I have kids, so I personally find it to be offensive nonsense. Am I being so unreasonable? I dare say now I will be told to chill out, get a sense of humour, it's just his way, god you're so sensitive, and blah blah blah. No. EDIT: there y'go, apparently I'm stupid now. Jeez.
Not what I said at all Rich and yes, you DO need to f***ing chill out!! TBH, you have offended me now. You've called it offensive nonsense, which I agree with. You are obviously too intelligent to believe the link... right? So HOW have I called you stupid?
 5.
I'm wrong? Nope, I'm not. Sure he was describing his hatred for the style, but there are ways of doing it and ways of doing it, y'know? How the f*** exactly does fusion become paedophilia? Sorry, but I object.
Then take it up with him in a PM. Simple. That's what the mods advised me to do once (might even have been you!) with BBC and all was resolved. Also I think if ANYONE here forms a link between Fusion and paedophilia based on that comment then they should pack up their computer and return it to the shop where they bought it as they're obviously to stupid to own one.
 6.
* earlier on, I believe jazz-fusion was even referred to as 'kiddy-fiddling'; I used to be in a fusion band and would gladly do so again, and I also have kids... consequently I find this description fcking outrageous and far from playground or humorous. I don't think I'm being over sensitive. Take it back immediately
Erm... wrong Rich. From how I read it, the BBC was trying to describe his level of hatred for the fusion style. Read it in context and you'll see. No doubt he'll pop up and prove me wrong though!
 7. I would have loved to finish this by the new year but thats a little unrealistic now. End of Jan hopefully then in with the equipment. There is SO much to think ahead about such as where to lay the cabling and looms between the live and mixing rooms. I have also decided that, by the moving the mixing to the smaller room, I now have room for a small offset vocal isolation booth near the window. It doesn't have to be soundproofed from the live room but will have to be 'dead' acoustically. That way, I can pick up the essense of the voice only and not the room with a decent cardoid mic (got a middle range Neumanns). I have just pruchased some leads and looms from the bay, as well as a Line 6 Guitar Pod Pro. Need some SM57's for acoustic mic'ing if anyone has some spare? Anyway, second plasterboard skin in the live room today. Chris has just arrived.... anyone free to give us a hand?
 8.
lol! this still does it for me: does anyone have the tab for this or know where to get it? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ohResYM7lhI&...feature=related andy
Masaki is cool. VERY tight and switches style so fluently.
 9. It's in my grubby hands!!! Picture up later when I can stop staring at it! Lokks like someone has thrown it down a flight of stairs. The attention to detail in the relic-ing is just stunning.
 10.
Sensitively and tastefully put.
That's our BBC for ya!
 11.
Well if I could get up off the floor when pissed (possibly tomorrow night) (stay away from the Corn Exchange... Liverpool) and sound that good, then I'll be happy.
LOL!! Advice taken! Trouble was, he probably was pissed... or stoned/whatever at that point in his life. I love the way he saunters off all cool like, then has to re-appear like a naughty schoolkid to switch off the loop!! His death was a tragic waste.
 12.
Didn't notice this before, didn't realise this had been started already. I think people feel intimidated be the percieved "freedom" of his playing, and yes, he could improvise but hell, he could nail a tune night after night. He was a total f***ing dude.....end of.
Agreed... I've heard stories about JP picking up any old bass, not bothering to tune it.. or even f*** around with the machine heads, then play it note perfect! The man was a genius, no doubt. My gripe was/is this clip which IMO, does not show his great talent. In fairness to AI-R, when the distorted section comes on, if you weren't watching the clip, you'd swear he fell over and was trying to get back up! Heard him play so much better.
 13. I still stand by my comments made on this thread. Can admire it... but it doesn't move me.
 14.
Just out of interest, what made you change your mind? Glad to see it's taking shape nicely
When the drywalls were taking shape I could see the logistics of the rooms. The live room was much bigger than I first envisaged so I felt a smaller room would be more condusive for a good solid mix. I can't wait for this to be finished. Once it's fully operational any BC'ers from round East Anglia will be more than welcome to pop in and have a look. I charge 50p for a cuppa!!
 15. I'm f***ing sick of drywalling!!! This picture shows the viewing window from the live room to the smaller room. I have decided to switch the mixer to the smaller room (cheers Budget Bassist!) as I think I'll be able to get a much better mixdown/master from there. Another angle showing the live room entrance.. got some dust behind the lens... sorry about that! This is from the smaller room..
 16. Nothing too exciting today... just a little more dry walling....
 17. '68 was a great year for me.... I came into existence!!!
 18. Over half the ceiling has the first skin... Walls tomorrow, then second skin all the way through. Really coming together now!
 19. I thinks it's a nice time to add again, thanks for the hard work that Warwickhunt, Shockwave... et al. have done to make this deal come to a conclusion. WELL DONE!! AGAIN!!!!
 20. Glad you got your bass Reuel. apology accepted and you're very forgiven on my part. Mostly because I didn't contribute (not to say I wasn't wishing you well. Just that my ethics didn't make me want to add a dollar.) My gripe was the attitude you gave the general BC'ers on here after the 'gripe' about the surplus. ALL RESOLVED NOW! Now.......... Where's Jake to 'COMPLETELY' wrap this thing up?
 21. Quick update... Electrician came round Sunday and put all the wiring in place for the ring main, heating ring and lighting. Plasterboard just got delivered at 7.30am this morning!! It took us over an hour to offload it from the pallet & walk it round to the studio. Just waiting for Chris to come back from the greasy spoon, then we'll crack on with the dry walling.
 22.
I don't buy the 'far superior to the Epi' talk. The Tokai body is ridiculously thick, in comparison to both the Gibson and Epiphone versions, which are a lot thinner. All imo of course.
Erm... my opinion on comparative superiority was limited to the sound as my post states, not the finish or build.
 23.
Heh. Photoshop, five minutes. Now it's worth keeping. P
Love it! Thanks very much!!
 24.
Damn my irrational love for 'Rays!
No.... it's rational, just your wages next month!!!
