jam along to ambient / chill toons. Theres so much space and time in that sort of music you can wander off into your own world for ages giving you time to have a play around and experiment with runs before anything changes. Stuff happens nice and slooooowly in that world. Plenty of space to breathe. hmmmm that came out all 'glasto' didnt it!! Maybe I'd better move to kent!! lol A
I gave mine a sturdy tap and it wouldn't budge. Didn't try any harder as i didn't want to damage the finish and it's not like i'll ever be likely to change it!
Thats right, thier collectors items you know A
Yeah i think the poles protrude too far, i don't want to lower the pup any more as i like something chunky to rest my thumb on. Once i get the pup out and disassemble i'll see if i can gently tap the poles down. Another little idiosyncracy i noticed when i took the neck off is that the neck plate on mine is stuck on, i'm guessing with glue! Also the neck holes aren't precisely drilled but funnily enough all the screws go in easily without warping so not a problem. Neck on mine is true and the pocket is very tight, can get the action down really low - sub 3mm believe it or not, it's actually "playable"! I also improved the string grooves in the nut so they are the correct size, they weren't large enough before. Like i said previously, i think mine is a return so who knows what's been done to it. All fine now though.
I dont actually think they are stuck on. They assemble the things before the finish is fully dry. Mine was like that but a quick tap and it fell off A
*very much doubt* you say. Again, that's a belief you have, and is not based on experience. You *may* be right, in principle. But you have no experience. It gets tiring soon. swapping: *most* only swap the strings (which are TERRIBLE). Many swap pickguards. That does not improve a bass. We pretty much all simply just set it up. Even the pickup is not bad. I'm only changing one of them, not because I can't afford to swap more (yeah, I spent all my money buying cheap basses to mess about with and can't afford bits and pieces now ). One had a bad neck. Others swapped it because they wanted a cheap body as a donor for a neck they already owned. What did I miss? If you think it's about getting the money back soemhow... then maybe that throws some light at your attitude. I don't think anybody here is thinking of getting any money back. Not any more than you get you money back if you spend £40 on booze one evening. When I've put an expensive preamp in a cheap bass, it was not with the idea that it'll become a more valuable bass. It merely becomes a much nicer bass to play *for me*. I play these things, you know? The day I decide to sell it, *if* I do, I sell teh preamp separately or keep it for another bass. If it were about cost we wouldn't buy new, as the minute you take a new bass out of teh shop, it loses a good chunk of % from its value. aaaanyway, what's that saying about a dead horse?
Im going to have to disagree with you there Jose One of mine is going 'In the attic' to gather dust and reappear in 10 years time as a much sort after collectors items And you can quote me on that A
As an experiment I bought some really cheap slug repellent tape (less than £2 a roll) thinking I would have to solder the joins but in fact found the adhesive was perfectly conductive. Of course they may not all be same but it's worth a try as some of the stuff with conductive adhesive can be expensive. Another unforeseen benefit is that my control cavity has been completely free of slugs since the installation.
I like the way you think Sir. Is there a name to this particular brand? A
Any reason for moving the control cavity to the back of the body? are you planning to go pickguard-less?
Well spotted thats exactly the plan hee hee A
That's a rather nice looking slab! For the price I was expecting to see a couple of pieces stuck together...
Errr 3 pieces to be precise! lol A
Just noticed you have a Wizard Thumper on your Precision. I heard very good stuff about that one. I'm looking for a pickup that will be rich in mids and enhance the growl of my bass... do you think I'll be on teh right track with the Thumper? Got any clips?
Take a look at this Jose. Yep. I think most people realise what this thread is about Its a £60 bass. Ive had a couple of quips taken the wrong way!! Its all good fun. If you have some nice bits laying around like necks and pups then this is perfect to them! Its all good fun, a laugh for the price of a few rounds down the pub! We're all having fun with them and solved Sue's problem of what to do with old stock they dont want pretty quickly. Happy days init A

My Kay short scale P copy has the same strings from when I did her up 21 years ago. THUD is about the right word for it lol. They are a set of long scales so the E is edged into the slot in the machine head lol. A

Thanks for the replies For Tin foil read Alluminium Foil. I agree that the thickness of the gold leaf may be an issue so probably not the best to use. Oh well, you live and learn. I'll use alluminium foil. A
-
OK so this might seem a little over the top but since I will have some left over I may as well use it Is Real Gold Leaf a good way of shielding the cavities of the electrics? I was going to use tin foil glued to the walls rather than splash out on a bottle of shielding paint that costs about the same as a pack of gold leaf!! I cant see why not. A

Hmmmm Interesting (Well to me anyway lol) I didnt think they were individually numbered LOL So its probably a batch number. Its a bit of a shame with my Dark Blue since its a nicer colour than the white but thats the one Im converting since it came with a rather nasty gash on the top waist!! Cant be assed to do anything about it, as in complaining etc, since there arent any replacements!!! I feel a 'Gentlemans Ryder' coming on!! A

Out of interest and being a bit of a geek.............. I was wondering what the relevence of the numbers stuck on the back of the headstock meant. My firts buy, the White one has RP-1-1.8.256. The second ordered, the Dark Blue one has RP-1-10.7.256. A few more numbers from fellow owners may shed light on things?? Also Ive noticed that The 'R' on the scratchplate and Headstock Printing is slightly different and in a slightly different position between the two. To put a date on things, the box for the Blue one (RP-1-10.7.256) had "Checked by Brian 30/2/08" written on it!! And finally. Ive had a damn good look under that very nice dark blue and from what I can see these babies have very nice patterned [s]ONE PIECE bodies[/s]!!!! Now thats something you dont see very often. A EDIT: Just found the two joins in better light. Still, nice looking pattern

You could try 'Rat tail' Files. Very cheap to buy. Google them. Theres lots of places that sell them. Ive never tried it but its a cheap option! A

Post a pic and you become just a number ............................... So to roll that ball.......... The dark blue one is coming monday. Then Ill decide which one to add posh wood and gilt to hee hee A
