1.
Did the scratchplate get sanded too? Looks weird. Was it together enough to play, or did it arrive disassembled? If it’s a good player and you had it for a good price, screw the retail/collectibility! Some sort of off white would look nice.
No that’s just a combination of crap photo and dirt. It was stored in pieces in a garage somewhere. Off white would be nice or maybe just black with the tort guard. (Maybe black and a mirror pickguard ala Phil lynott)
2.
Looking at it - I'd definitely try a light sanding, then a coat of some sort of sealant... is Nitro an option for you? I'm not necessarily a fan of natural finish on basses - but I think this one could look great. I just think it's nice with Rosewood board and that tort plate Definitely get it re-fretted though It's a nice project to have in the pipeline
Yeah a nitro finish is what I was thinking of doing. A refret will definitely happen at some stage. I might string it with flatwounds before that to see what it’s like. (Having never played a fretless or flatwounds)
3. Sorry about the late reply. I’ve been stupidly buying another JV project. That one is a strat though and I’m not sure anyone would be interested in that on here. As you can see from the attached pictures the bass needs a lot of work. (You may want to wash your eyes out afterwards). You may also notice that it doesn’t have a jv neck plate. Don’t worry I do have it just haven’t had time to pop it on. Thanks for all the responses. They do help a lot. And thanks for the heads up on the JV PJ pickups I’ve seen on eBay. I think I’ve come to the decision that there isn’t much point in restoring it to original. I think I’ll just get a nice pickup and paint it in a fender custom colour. Let me know what you think. Cheers Michael
4. Hello, I recently picked up a Squier JV p bass project that needs a bit of work. Well a lot of work really. It’s had a hard life. I’ll try to get some pics up later to show you the extent of work it’s going to need. Anyway. The bass isn’t complete. I’m missing a pickup and bridge. As well as finish and frets but more on the latter two later. How do people feel about the original pickups? Now there is a set of JV bass pickups on eBay that I was thinking of getting but it’s a PJ set and I have no need for a jazz bridge pickup. Or would I just be as well getting an after market set? Fender or Seymour Duncan etc. I’m not too worried about getting a replacement bridge but does anyone know if the hardware is nickel or chrome? None into the finish and frets. During its earlier years someone has covered it to a fretless. Not the greatest job but I will covert it back to fretted at some point. The previous owner told me he started to remove the finish so it could be refinished easier. I don’t know why. My question is, is it worth refinishing in an original colour? I’m not looking to sell it at all but just in case in years to come I fancy something else what would people prefer? Anyway let me know what you think and I’ll try to get some pictures up later or tomorrow. Cheers Michael
5. hi would you post the aria? to w. yorkshire
6. i know you said you wouldnt but Would you post at all?
7. if its a cheap jazz your after you could try one of these(i'll prob get band for suggesting this ): http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbb1975_bk.htm i had one (first jazz bass i had infact) and it was quite nice. i changed the pickups to duncan designed ones like the squiers have (because they were £30) needed a set up though but sure the majority of cheap basses do. still for £110 including delivery you cant go wrong. i regret selling mine now and have been thinking about buying another one. they also do a maple one like the vintage modified squier but that seems to be out of stock atm. Michael

9.
Aye sure..... once she's been done up like. The truth is that she's really starting to grow on me - been playing her all night and there's something about the unyielding heftyness (and the fact that despite being reassembled yesterday the neck relief was stable and she was still in perfect tune when I picked her up today) that appeals to me. Could be a keeper.
lol i could be waiting a while then lol
10. is this still available?
11. ah feck wish i seen this earlier ou7shined will you sell the me bass
12. hi being a student i have virtually no money at all, well except for the important things like beer. but anyway a while ago i was really wanting to buy a squier 50's precision bass until the other day when i seen the pisces bass on the rondo music website. anyway back to the real question has anyone had experience with buying from rondomusic? and what was it like? i states on the website non usa buyers have to buy a hardcase aswell. anyway thanks in advance Michael p.s they have more necks for sale in the parts section
13. any pics and how much for the 5 string?
14. hello all ive posted this in another section off the forum but dont think its the right place so ive reposted it here. anyway this is probaly a stupid question and im not sure this is the right section of the forum.........but i was wondering if this was possible this is pretty much just a half baked idea i have but ive always like the danelectro dc bass but the price of one for a student and a bass newbie such as myself is a bit too much. plus them being pretty hard to find doesnt help also. so im going to try to build one. well sort of smile.gif i would like to make the bass look as orignal as possible so i was thinking of using alot of the parts from a dano 63 bass including neck, pickups etc. except i would like the bass to have a solid body. does anyone know if the 63 and dc have roughly the same neck join?(for templates) so anyway back to the real question, does anyone know where i could get a body made or failing that some templates? as i said before this is just a thought so please go easy Michael
15. not sure if this is in the right section. if not can it be moved?

17. still new to ajust the truss rod and fix the action. still pretty high. but i dont want to mess about with it too much at once
18. cheers ill have a look
19. i was quite surprised with how well it played and how good it sounds. obvisouly im still in the process of setting it up and modding it. needs new strings but im a poor student so might have to play the ones on it for a while. just did the truss rod last night. that was the first time ive did that ever thankfully the bass is still in one piece.
20. hello all new member here and i just wanted to show you all my bass. you may laugh as it is a harley benton, made in china for thomann but you'll know that anyway. very cheap geddy anyway heres dome specs Adler body maple neck and fretboard (no skunk stripe though) not sure if the inlays are painted on but i think so. looks like wood grain through the black back of the neck and headstock have very think orangly gloss but doesnt get in the way of playability. pickups were crapish(it is a £100 bass lol) replaced them with duncan designed jazz. jb101 i think. shielded the body while changing pickups as there was quite a lot of buzzing, but think this was becasue there was no ground wire to the bridge lol but i replaced that i believe these basses are made in the same factory as sx but im not entirely sure anyway heres some pics(hopefully) please excuse the tiny crappy camera phone pics lol Michael
