1. A drummist told me how much he liked the sound of my amp (Reidmar and GB 2x12) said it sounded just like an Ashdown.
  2. Still around. Getting in the way.
  3.
I must admit being told that we were adding a rhythm guitar for a festival we are doing made me sad.
We finally rehearsed for the gig as a 4 piece last night (the gig is on Saturday). The rhythm guitarist had a hard job finding anywhere to play and on one song in particular just had to stop as there was no space. He was upset by it, I even switched from my 16th note bassline to just playing root 5ths to try and help him out but that didn't provide much more room and killed the forward momentum.
  4. The Blues festival is this Saturday and the jam night in Greenwich on Sunday.

I have to follow what the guitarist does and he got rid of his Marshall 4x12 years ago. Now he's got a tiny fender amp (which sounds glorious) so a 2x12 for me is enough to cover the whole spectrum.
  6. Oh yeah that's great. I do have my action pretty low, about 2mm on the E string at the 17th fret.
  7. I played one briefly on Wednesday, instantly made me go up past the 12th fret and stay there. The guitarist who had it had totally changed his playing style and sounded really convincing.
  8. Willing to work with you if you want a courier to come and collect.
  9. I'm possibly a better musician in your idea of what a musician is for knowing theory yes.
You should absolutely know you're doing. Of course it makes a difference knowing what key you're in
You speak in absolutes but you don't say why. If someone is in a covers band and can play the covers they need to in a way that gets them gigs and makes it enjoyable for listeners I'd say they don't need anything else.
  10. Because if what comes out of the speakers is the song you are supposed to be playing it makes no difference if you know it is in A minor switching to Bsus9 no 3 for the bridge, and it is a pattern of descending 4ths. If I play something from a record without looking at notation of any form, do I know what I'm doing? Do I know that the 3rd fret on the E string followed by the 6th fret might mean that I've just played a minor 3rd of G or does it really matter because the listener doesn't care. for what its worth I think knowing theory and reading are not related. Knowing the fretboard, knowing the triads, scales, modes etc doesn't need you to be able to read dots. I can play a piece of tab and know the relationship of the notes just as you can from a piece dot based notation. What is missing is the rhythm part and for most pop music the addition of the record to the notation will solve that.
  11.
We must understand everything we play, it's so important.
I don't agree.

  13. I found the original box too. Did I say it was a mint one? https://www.dropbox.com/s/o7cqwbhf9ayzare/2014-07-09%2006.53.12.jpg
  14.
The problem with TAB is that there is no musical information or content contained in it.
Apart from the fact that if you fret the instructions you will have the melody you are trying to reproduce at least in pitch form.
Our aim is to develop our bass playing and musicianship at the same time.
Yours might be but there are millions of people that just want to play songs. Learning someone else's notes also builds a library of musical techniques that while you might not understand to start with can certainly be reproduced when you are making stuff up for yourself.
If you want to learn a piece of music without reading the notation then use your ears. That's far more beneficial.
Why?
  15. Still here, been playing it a lot more since I put it up for sale. Much easier to play than my Fenders for some reason.
  16. I have used tab recently to learn a song. I don't have a slowy downy thing so I looked at the tab and with the aid of the record learned to play it pretty quickly (well enough for my needs). Tab on its own is useless, a record on its own is hard, dots I am at Greensleeves level so far
