If you need a not really very local drummer with no kit (well, electronic) and no transport, I'm yer man.
Way to sell yourself

I'm sure that is true. I've been going to a jam night (and was depping for the house band dude for 3 weeks) and the difference in a few months is huge. Will press on with the soul/funk/disco thing and see what happens. Thanks

I meant on the bass, I'm awesome at song writing
Write some songs of your own and form a band.
I dont have the chops as they say in america.
Arrange a charity gig, a HUGE one, get it televised worldwide and invite all your favourite artistes to play. Then jam with them.
That is an amazing idea, can't believe it hasn't been done before.

then I saw the Dirty Loops video's and wanted to instantly pick up my bass Trouble is I'm inspired but I've no idea what to do with that inspiration. What would you do? where do I go from here?

This has been a week of total mind blowing inspiration. It started with Sharay Reed killing it on this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pATcvr3zAhg I went off searching for some gospel bass info and found a couple of things that I practiced, I'm not sure if I improved or really learned anything. Then KC Roberts got me fired up with this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bZBh6HMFaQ and the rest of the awesomness on their channel. This made me want to start a funk/disco/soul band (which I posted on Facebook and got a guitairist within 3 minutes). Then I went and learned a bass part to Boogie Wonderland. I think I improved as a bass player there. I then spent a few hours learning chords (thinking about Jeff Berlin's words about chrod tones being the key) and scales. My understanding of major and minor scales has increased greatly and I believe some of my playing and note choices has been affected positively by that. cont..

Interesting jazzy covers of rock or pop tunes?
AntLockyer replied to Paul S's topic in General Discussion
So yesterday I had my world rocked by KC Roberts, I was totally inspired to start a funk outfit with a brass section etc. Today I'm now totally inspired by Dirty Loops and I have no idea what to do with that inspiration -

Olympic White 66/62 style Jazz Bass build

Looking good. -
I really like it when people properly evolve though rather than just change a little. Michael Jackson springs to mind. Snoop Dogg (although he might have changed his name). How about Kenny Rogers? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhOKhJaM1QE compared to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj4nJ1YEAp4

I've been thinking about this all day, avoiding the obvious ones with line up changes like Floyd and Fleetwood Mac. Try this on for size http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D4YYI8G5EM and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-8K8Hj8bxE

I've never been to a church with that brand of gospel even in the south.

Looking cool.

WITHDRAWN, Thanks. I may live to regret this but I'm selling my Demeter Compulator. As you can see form the pictures it is as mint as something can be without being brand new. I bought it in New York 3 years ago. Since then it has had little use (1 battery) and has never left the house. I listened to every compressor pedal I could find leading up to it's purchase and it is by far and away the nicest most musical sounding one of the lot. However as you can see from its condition I don't use it, the compressor on my amp is good enough for my purposes and someone else could benefit. £150 posted to regular UK addresses (i.e. not islands and highlands). Pino Palladino...once again...how sh*t hot is he?
AntLockyer replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
A while back, when I had nothing better to do, I decided to make a Pino playlist on Spotify. I tried to include as much different stuff he's played on as possible. Mr Pino Palladino for the webplayer, or click Mr Pino Palladino for the Spotify URl. It's not meant to be exhaustive, just a snapshot of some of his playing over the years; it blows my mind to hear the diversity and variety of stuff he's done. Feel free to add tracks - it's a public list and I'd love to hear some oddities and unexpected tracks!
My only gripe is the lack of 5 string live, I dont get why he has ERB on the album but not live, the bassist is great and I would have him record his live parts as the album parts on 4 string bass or use a bass player that plays the album versions live too, I know I am grumpy and it is a silly gripe but thats my lookout
Different bass player wasn't it?

Really great. Superb vision and execution.

I'd go and watch that over some generic covers band. Marketing will be key. I think you'd have most chance of doing well if you put on your own night. DJs providing the bulk of it and then your act doing your thing. I used to do some dance stuff with guitars, there were a few bands about at the same time during the whole new rave thing.

Timbre differences per guitar are very obvious to me and I'm no golden ear. My P bass with Labellas on it is absolutely amazing sounding, sounds like a great big wooden instrument. It's not the last word in anything other than sound. It plays pretty nicely, it's put together in an OK fashion but the sound is awesome. My Aria makes the Fender feel like a toy, and sounds nowhere near as good.
