1. I've love one, thought the part about the model number reflecting the Yen price fascinating.
2. The show was alright, I can think of better ways to spend that sort of cash but we had fun. The sound was awful though. His vocal was real low in the mix, the bass was almost silent, the kick drum so loud I thought I was going to sh*t myself. The songs I like from the albums were great the rest a bit boring and I'm sad to have not heard Carmine Rojas at all.
3. Second week of being the house band dep. Received bags of compliments from everyone my favourite was when the drummer told me I was easy to play with. Years of drum training finally came in handy Also got asked if I'd be interested in the gig permanently. I said probably not. too much commitment.
4. I have flats on my P bass and through my TC Electronic combo there is much more than thump available, to the point I roll off the treble on the amp and the tone control on the bass.
5. First night as the house band dep last night. I managed to dial in a real nice sound and got through the night with not too much bother. Some of the material was tough from a remembering the changes point of view. Pen and paper to make charts and I would have been fine. When I was leaving everyone was very complimentary and someone said they would get me some more work, which is nice.
6. Fretted versions of everything are worth more I think. Certainly more demand.
7. I've got one of those with a fretted neck on and wooly is not the word I would use.
8. Had a chance to try both last year's and this year's models this weekend. Not through the same rig unfortunately but I got some impression. Last years one had the standard Jazz controls and I thought they had missed a trick there, something else to differentiate it would have been good. So did Fender as that's what they've done for this years model. The sound possibilities seem much greater now although the multi position switch wasn't very pronounced. The sound also seemed to be clearer and articulate more of what you were doing with very subtle variations in playing making noticeable timbre changes. I was left underwhelmed and cured of my MPJ GAS after playing last years one (the trans black is so nice though, maybe the nicest finish Fender have done for years). Then I played this years and I wanted it instantly. However the finishes this yer are horrid, satin black and satin burst. Both will look rubbish after about 5 minutes. Anyway that's my mini review and again I got a very warm welcome from Wunjo's bass shop as usual.
9.
Ah yes, the famous Cray Delta Blues.
HAHAH yeah
10. Luckily for me it is a blues jam that does extend out in interesting ways sometimes but I've been well exposed to that already by just being a participant. For me it is essentially doing what I would normally do on a Wednesday with the added bonuses of some money, getting to use my own amp and getting to play more songs with different musicians.
11. Some background for those that haven't read my other riveting posts. My bass playing outlet is a regular Wednesday night blues jam which has just the right level of friendliness and variation to make it a god laugh. I love the lack of commitment needed for that. This week the organiser said "I was going to ring you the other night as we needed a bass player for our gig at short notice" I said anytime and felt flattered. Then yesterday I got asked to be the house band bass player for 3 weeks as a dep to the regular guy. That is itself was really nice but he then went on to say "we are all really raving about your playing,"Name withheld" and I were discussing it in fine detail last night, awesome feel" Very nice for someone to say that.
12. I changed to flats and put a new pickguard on mine (plus a good setup) I like it. I'm tempted by another one with rounds on.
13. If I have to keep one of mine then my P bass, if I had to get rid of everything and get another guitar it would be a vintage P or J too be brutally honest though anything would do me.
14. Better quality alternatives.
15. My Aria never goes out of tune. Everything else moves a little when they get taken somewhere or the temperature changes a lot.
16.
.....the best music was in the 60's..... G. (well, it was!)
17. Just my regular Wednesday night blues jam. Had a lot of fun last night despite being given the nod for a solo <urgh>. Many commments of how much I've got better and stuff. Different drummers really affect the way I play. One guy was really loud but solid, changed the dynamic totally.
18.
(you can luck into a really good one, like on of my mates).
Or spend a good amount of time finding a good one.
