Some years ago I had to replace a 15" Black widow bass speaker in a PA Sub & even though the ohms & wattage was correct it turned out there were several different designs & model numbers to choose from the difference sound / performance was huge .

Interestingly the ports on the ABM Neos have no depth at all just two round holes next to each other , Having looked at some old TC cabs does it matter if the holes are next to each other or not ?

The reason why I asked is that I use to have a ported Ashdown ABM Neo 1 x15 I gave it to a charity a few years ago . I ordered another one a few weeks ago & It's a sealed version , Ashdown have given me dimensions of the two circular ports if I want to add them . They have told me that it will make it louder but not deeper & that has confused me a bit as I remember it sounding deeper ?

If you had two identical cabs but one was ported & the other sealed what would be the main difference between the two ?

A couple of comments were that the band sounded tighter but it wasn't obvious that it was down to compression on the bass .

It Still does effect the volume even on low levels , But I'm just going to leave it on as I just want it to tighten my sound & not change it , If that makes any sense . I use a different compressor on my GR55 for effect on one song .

I have a Zoom B3 & my roland GR55 has plenty of compression options , But I've found that the one on my Ashdown ABM left on at half way , for my band gives a great low end punch with the bass drum & I'm not getting jumps in volume when I change tone . I'm going to leave it on for the next few gigs .

I find rhythm stick a lot easier with a plectrum .

When I was still with My sons Mother I got the guitar shop owner to write a receipt for £35 for a combo that actually cost £750 , & she said £35 was too much

I don't have a link I don't know anything about it , apart from someone told me that's what its called apparently ? I just wondered if anyone used it or perhaps I was being wound up .

I've heard about this can be handy for working stuff out by ear .Is it something you have to buy ?

I use it as an extreme effect on some Tony Levin /Gabriel stuff & never had used it in a subtle way , I can hear what it's doing but just don't know if I like it or not ?

I wish I had never read this topic , Now I can't decide if I like compression or not ..grrrrr!!!!

I've tried this on my ashdown ABM with the setting on low & switching on & off there is a dramatic change in volume ?

I use it om my Ashdown ABM1000 to balance the levels when switching between no eq & eq to get a very harsh Yes /Stranglers type sound .

All on one side , quite a long headstock but Roto sound & elixir extra long sets were long enough.

I've just received a set of Newtone made for my 36" shuker & the G string is only just long enough to go around the machine head once & slips off . I must admit the head stock is quite long , I've spoken to them & they are going to try to make a slightly longer one but not sure if their machine is long enough . I wonder what it is that makes some strings last longer than others ?

crumbs .50 , The plectrums that gave me the very clicky noise were Dunlop .73 ...Mind you my Shuker 36" has a very piano like tone in the fist place .

Up until this weekend I had always used JD 1mm nylon , during band rehearsal I noticed a horrible clicking sound , I spent a lot of time trying to eq it out .It wasn't until some time later I realised it was a JD Ultex.73 pick that some one must have given me & it was in my pocket .I didn't appreciate how much different plectrums & gauges could effect the tone .I'm off to order a selection .

I use 1 x15" & 1 x12" Ashdown cabs with upgraded Sica speakers & a ABM 1000 nice portable Rig & handles My Shuker F#--G easily .

Our Drummer also sings most of the set & that helps .
