1.
the shop has to charge vat as well remember......
That's 20% the most unfair Tax
2. i think you will find it hard to beat the Alto , I gave mine to a friend who runs a PA hire company , I saw Him yesterday & he said it's great .
3. Passive 12" EVs ELX I think
4. I think the guitar always sounds nice with a small combo mic'd up .
5. I thought the Alto 15" was excellent , I now use EV 12" for weight reasons both are impressive . The Alto was about 65lbs & 600w rms The EV 45lbs 700w rms.
6.
I do exactly this but with a VB99 which is almost the same thing. I have a small Ashdown ABM 1x10 combo next to me and sometimes also IEM support. It's terrific! There's so much to learn with the GK systems but I really enjoy playing with things and getting my patches nailed. It's nice to know that once set up you can plug and play. It's worth spending the time getting to know how to work it all. I may be able to help if you have any specific questions? Cheers
The Gr55 is very impressive , I have one problem on one patch that might not be possible using just one lead , I use a synth sound for a intro & hold the last note using the CTL when the bass line kicks in , using two separate leads I can phase the synth sound in & out with the expression pedal but I can't using just one lead .I can however if using one of the on board bass sounds .so I'm trying to phase the held note in & out without it effecting the bass .
7.
I'd take a decent preamp a least - the average mixing desk eq won't cut it for your bass. I agree with others' suggestions to take a combo.
The Roland GR55 has very powerful tone control , but I will carry my Zoom b3 for back up , I was going to use my ashdown 12 band pedal but I just don't need it .
8. The New Ashdown stuff is pretty good .
9. Having a Roland GR55 I started looking at the bass Mod & pre amp capabilities , & I have to say i'm very impressed . For average pub gigs I no longer use 1 x flight cased bass amp 1 x bass cab, 1 x active sub , 1 x powered monitor , & out of accessories 4 x mic stands , 4 mics with loads of leads all totaling to 210 lbs in weight . For the life of me I don't know why i had so much stuff in the accessory bag . All of this makes quite a few less trips to the Van , setting up is quicker & to my ears no difference in the sound quality ..Our Guitarist has even got rid of His Marshal 4 x 12 & got Himself a 1 x12" combo ...Happy days
10. In my opinion if you have a great animated front man with a good voice that is what most of the punters focus on , & if you don't it doesn't matter how good anyone else is , it's not going to go well .
11.
I've been to see what I've thought were some pretty ropey pub bands but my (non musician) friends thought they were fantastic. My take on this is that when people hear a song they know, they actually hear their memory of it. So unless the band makes real howling mistakes any slight mistakes or poor bit of timing is completely overlooked because the punters are replaying their memories of the song to the sight of the live band - especially when the alcohol kicks in! How many of us have made a mistake at a gig and no one noticed? I know I have. Any gigging musician is likely to be far more critical and therefore notice things like mistakes and poor sound balance that the average punter would miss completely. So yes, I'd say they just want to hear songs they know, have a few beers and a good old knees up.
I think that is spot on .
12. Considering my poor back & limited time to set stuff up on pub gigs , I have a resonable PA with powered subs & I'm happy with the overall sound quality .But recently I saw a local band that had very basic 300w PA Guitar & bass had entry level stuff & the sound quality wasn't great , but they had the place packed & were just pure entertainment . My question is, are the band the only people that appreciate the sound quality ? Or do the punters just want to recognise the songs & see a animated band & everyone just has a good old knees up .
13. I use a Peavey XR1212 2x EV tops & 2x EV powered subs & two Alto monitors , Nice light weight & flexible system .
14. Anything to get the weight down & make more space in the small pubs . what I really like is that I had one lead going from my Gr55 to the PA & another to my bass rig & relying on the monitor for the GR55 sounds , having everything on one lead going from the GR55 has made it easier & quicker to set up & sound check ..I must admit I haven't enjoyed getting my head around the GR55 .
15.
If you are turning subwoofers so you can hear yourself better, there is little point as you'll want to be hearing the definition in the the overtones of your bass, not the subby thump.
I used one barefaced super compact powered by one of the peaveys internal amps for the top end sounded great to me .
16. I just tried this , I have a peavey XR1212 that has two 600w internal amps & a Sub out at 100kz . I tried using one of my Alto monitors but The best result was to go from My Roland GR55 straight into the Peavey , One of the 600w amps is driving two EV Tops & the other 600w amp I connected to one Barefaced super compact for stage sound . The sub out was connected to Two EV 700w powered Subs one of them I turned sideways . It gave a great sound & easy to set up .Time will tell .
17. As we are playing small venues I'm going to try having the EV Subs behind me or one of them turned sideways & just use the monitors for top end . Ill let you know when I've blown everything
18. I know it's on here somewhere , but I was playing with the amp section on my Roland GR55 & seeing that I have an ok pa with two 700w active subs I'm going to try going straight into the Pa ..does anyone else do this ?

Roland GR55

Been using one for about a year now , But just started looking at all the internal bass amp & bass modules , I'm going to experiment with using the PA only & no bass rig at all as I have a decent pa with 2 700watt active subs . does anyone else do this ?
20. I agree with most of the comments , I just don't understand what the seller is trying to achieve by making it sound a lot worse than it is .
21. I started looking for a headless bass £500--£800 budget , Now I'm talking to Jon Shuker about having a 5 string headless version of my Shuker 36" how did that happen ?
22. I totally agree about the slapping thing & crappy lap top speakers . A microphone & di doesn't take that long especially that they are trying to sell a high end bass . There are some very good demonstrations out there however the Dood for one does great ones .
23. I was looking at buying a certain bass until I checked out the sellers demo video , & to be honest the sound quality was so bad It's put me off . People need to put a bit more effort than sticking some unsuitable mic in the corner of a room .
24. Thanks I love my 36" but when I play in small pubs quite often & because of my height I've caught my singer in the back of he head & other objects ..never mind them but it knocks my tuners
25. The Isle of Wight is practically next door
