1. Yep I'm going to tune up , I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to damage my neck , last gig He took over 2 mins !!! to tune . What I find really hard to understand is that he has a spare guitar that is supposed to be pre tuned but He stands there tuning the flipping thing ...drives me nuts ....It takes me about 20 seconds . I would use one of my other basses But I use a Roland GR55 .
2.
Now't to worry about, but why not fit a Hipshot D tuner to give you the low D on the E string and move your fingerings around for the other notes required?
I've tried all of that stuff using a capo etc & I get confused when playing the same songs in other bands that don't need to change key .
3. The guitarist in my band has to D tune for about 4 songs in our set , He has a spare that is supposed to be already tuned but He seems to take for ever.. Anyway a easy way round it is for me to have a spare or just tune up one semi tone ..The only question I have is this dangerous for the neck ?
4. I ordered a pack of 3 . one of the E strings wasn't quite long enough for my 36" Shuker ,that shows inconsistency in manufacturing , Having said that I'm very happy with sound & a great price .
5. I had my custom ones made by Spec savers , you can change the filters on those .
6. Surely It must be down to a large part to what type of cab & bass you use , Mark King has one of the cleanest sounds I know of & I don't think He hardly used the EQ on His Ashdown but the mid scoop was left on ( button out ).
7. I have a Ahsdown Abm 1000 & Barefaced super compacts Rig , I love the sound I get , but as I don't want to deafen myself I've tried DI to let the PA do the work but it just doesn't sound like my rig , I'm going to try a mic .
8. Jon Shuker made a bass for me for less than that .
9.
Thanks for all the help Alex (and others). Ive done all that (and other things suggested). Its not a set up issue at the bass end, as im finding similar results with ym other basses. Ive been using the BB2 regularly since i got it and never at home. Its not just the E string, certain freqs seem louder than others. The open E is quite soft compared ot fretted G, im aware of why that is. Sometimes i know its the room not working well but most cabs suffer from that so i wouldnt blame the cab. I dont have this issue using the studio cabs, nor going through our PA (although its a small PA and i just go through it for a bit of support) I have the pup set up correctly, but its not just the one bass im struggling with. I think the bottom line is that its just not for me. Nothing wrong with it at all.
I've had exactly the same problem with the super compacts , But I resolved it by changing string gauge from 45-105 to 40-100 .
10. Nice ! My first custom bass was a Over **ter in 82 & the after sales was awful . John Shuker treats everyone with the same respect & has a real passion for his trade .
11.
Replacing the valve is easy to do yourself
Thanks , absolutely love this amp
12. When turning on the drive their is a boost in volume but the distorion has seemed to have stopped , Is this just a case of replacing the valve & is this a DIY job or one for Ashdown ?
13. When I started out I played in a band with Jon Andersons (Yes) brother & nephews & still do a bit , My first band I got into was The Stranglers ,anyway I had never heard of Yes & I got chatting to Chris Squire at some Birthday gig & I said " You sound just like the bloke from The Stranglers , He must have also been an influence on you"
14. 1984 I just moved from the isle of wight up to London & I was staying at a friends house in Islington , First night out we jumped into his VW Bettle to pick up a few of His friends on route to a gig , I was sat in the back & was introduced to some chap called Mark , My mate told me He played bass , but he said He was playing washboard in a band (the Skiff Scatts )that night at The Hope & Anchor .We got chatting about my nice new Overwater bass (one of the first at the time) & I sort of didn't show any interested in His Fender P , He then asked me if I knew Mark King & I was more interested in talking about my band . later that night I said "Who do you play bass for then ?" Mark " Oh I play in a band called Madness "
15. Looks cool & good luck with it , but weight is the issue for me & my 2 x super compacts are the best I've had . I had a very good slap style player try my rig he made it sound just like His old 2 x 4x10 trace cabs ..& all the other 4x10 rigs He's had . Ashdown ABM & Barefaced super compacts make a very versatile rig .
16.
Which bits are you struggling with?
I think I would like to see all of it & start a fresh .
17. I gigged the EV 12" active sub , & for a small pub 100 people max it was easily enough ,I was very impressed , I'll probably get a second for larger venues & back up .
18. I'm not sure what this means ..isn't it just a volume control ? can't it just go from 0---10 , or even 11.
19. I haven't seen EV mentioned & I've just ordered spme of there speakers ..I hope I haven't made a huge mistake .
20. I've got a Shuker JJB signature The reason I got it was because I saw JJs ,tried it & found out it was cheaper (at the time) than a Standard USA precision & a lot lot better quality , a really good working bass made for gigging .
21. Has any one got tab for this ? I'm close but not happy with it & it's driving me nuts & it really shouldn't .
22. Thanks NJE , At the moment I have Peavey UL 12 s, a Alto 15" & 2 x 12" alto monitors , I'm happy with the overall sound .but as my back isn't great I'm always looking at going lighter , so I'm looking at swapping the Alto 15" sub for the 12" version & the Alto 12" tops are about half the weight of Peavey .
23. Any views on these ?
