I think the main problem I have is that quite often I'm only about 1ft away from my cab , It's not so much volume it's not enough space for the sound wave to form , when I do a sound check it sounds great on the dance floor, Going through the PA Helps but it just can't get the same sound that the barefaced cab can , Yes I think I have been too loud trying to hear myself when it's just making it worse . I need to experiment with the band posistioning , just a couple ft would make a difference .

I play mainly pubs, I prefer the sound my rig gets out front than the PA can get , but it;s just too loud for me .So I'm trying having my barefaced super 12T in line with the PA tops ( in front of Me ) & using a monitor . Does anyone else do this ?

worst amp you have owned or had the luck to use
And just for added confusion on the Ashdown front, I believe I've already said in this thread or another like it that the ABM500 is one of the worst amps I've owned, but having recently given them another chance the ABM1000 is, without hesitation, one of the best.
I have the 400 watt version when used with my barefaces super 12T compared to my Markbass Little Rocker & Mo mark heads it has a much fuller sound . -
I use to have an Ampeg 8 x 10 & a Messa B 400 plus . I then went on to MB stuff & then a series of MB heads & a BF super twelve , the sound was still a bit thin & Hi Fi to me but my back came first . Then I got a Ashdown ABM 400 RH this with the BF is fantastic ! It sounds just like an 8 x 10 to me & moves much more air than the MB/BF set up could .
Guy I worked with use a 15 watt Session combo...beautiful sound and just the right volume. Guitars dont need anything bigger than 15 watts.
The best sounding pub band I've seen had one of these , The bass player had a Peavey mrk3 combo , The drumer had a Tama kit , & they had a Peavey XR600 PA , they bassed the volume around the bass drum .

I was doing a pub gig last night with a new guitarist , He was using a Fender Twin reverb all valve thingy . The on stage volume was absolutely deafening , After the gig He said that he couldn't go any lower to get the sound He needed to get ? I use a PA so I can have a comftable volume & let the PA do the work . If that's true I don't care how good it sounded to the punters I play for a hobby & you're supposed to enjoy hobbies .

Can anyone recommend a good set of black tuners & where to get them from , the Wilkinson ones on my Status jazz neck aren't that great . I'd prefer the traditional look .

Markbass 801, anyone have experience with this or similar mini combos?
Kevin Dean replied to Kev's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have one & I think it's very good , I was going to use it as a bass monitor but what I didn't like was that if you turn the volume up that also turns up the DI signal up ...It's easy to think you have a great big full sound & that's OK for practice but when I A/Bd it against my Ashdown / Barefaced rig I realized how small it was sound wise . -
would a bad drummer make you quit a band? I just did :-(
I'd walk. Life's too short to play gigs that you don't enjoy or look forward to.
says it all , Although I would have a chat first & see if it can be fixed . -
I have a little Mark Rocker & it sounds very Thin compared to my Ashdown ABM 400 RH .

I got Jon Shuker to make me a 36" scale bass , I Have it tuned D.G.C.F & I use a capo on the 2nd fret , I use Rotosound RB 110 gauge strings , they just cover the 36" get a great sound , easy to get hold of & are far cheaper than alternative extra long strings .
The only handles I like are the recessed ones you get in the markbass cabs but they wouldn't be practical in a micro head!
Agreed the others for me are impractical & make a great product look cheap .

In multiple bands ? How do you manage your diary ?
Kevin Dean replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
up until about a year ago I've only ever played origanal stuff & have made up the bass lines myself , doing covers is very new to me & it's going to be a steep learning curve , I certainly couldn't change the key of a lot of bass lines on the spot & I don't have a clue what charts are ? Up until now I've had about 6 weeks notice of the set & the key changes . -

How do you find remembering so many set lists ? or do you sight read ? -
Hi Kevin Dean (if indeed that IS your real name) and welcome to the forum! You're probably going to ask what gear we would recommend, so... best to go with a bass from a custom builder - like Jon Shuker. And you can't beat a Markbass amp through a Barefaced cab! You're welcome! PS: I spoke to Mark King this morning and he says you're an arse. Byeee!!
My real name is Elvis Presley & if you don't beleave me ask my mum & my fave ampat the moment is a Ashdown ABM 400RH

I would like to know why Peavey never do a clip light on their input gain ?
-
I recently purchased a 12 band graphic & Chorus , putting them through my Markbass 801 combo at home they sounded great & couldn't wait until I showed my fellow band mates . That was until I put it through my Ashdown ABM 400 RH & at nowhere near gig level the hiss produced & noise when using the on /off switches was very disapointing , I won't be using these then .

I'm about to get a case for some effect pedals , I want to get some foam to seat them in, can anyone recommend where to get some from & the best way of cutting it neatly to the shape of the pedals ?
-
I have the Zoom ones & the Drop tune , they are Ok for practicing along with itunes when we are doing a song in a different key but I found them no good for live work too much of a delay .

I wouldn't worry , it's all part of the suspense & excitement ....It's all carefully planed I reckon
