I normally use a wireless & do the sound check , I think what I'm saying is , that to get a sound I like I want to drive the cab a bit more , like when I play with an acoustic Drummer .
-
I DI from the head post eq , I use a peavey xr1212 for the tops & a CS3000h powering the subs , I'm doing the PA . When I play with acoustic drum kits I can drive my rig & get a great sound . I'm going to try & just turn there monitors up a bit more . With the drums , bass , & keyboards going through the PA , even though it has a cross over the watts certainly get eaten up & the system is lacking in volume in some clubs . I've considered putting the barefaced cab more forward next to one of the subs ?

I love the sound of my rig Ashdown Neo & Barefaced S12T. We only play in pubs . But the rest of my band , electric drums & keyboards go through my PA , as a result we have a relatively quite on stage sound So I'm using my rig as more of a monitor & go the the PA as well . I'm getting more & more cheesed off with the sound that I get through the PA compared to my rig & I'm getting close to not going through the PA & turning my rig up as it can easily fill the places we play at with a great sound & telling the keyboard player ( who moans constantly ) to lump it . Or am I being unfair ? ps The drummer / singer is fine with it as he knows hes getting a great sound out front .

I've had Ampeg 8x10 , Fender 4 x12, Peavey, Hartke, Warwick , GK, Mark Bass, but it's the Barefaced S12T for me & my back
-
Thanks everyone , I might go for the double fishermans /

I get interference from my wireless as I'm also doing the pa that's why I'm going back to leads plus I forgot to change the flippin battery the other night .
-
As I'm trying to not use my wireless system , I could do with having an longer lead for sound checks .
-
Does anyone use these female jack connectors for making two shorter leads into a longer lead ? cheers.

Compaired to the Mark Bass little Rocker , This Ashdown NEO 400 has a hell of a thump , I wonder what their Neo cabs would be like compaired to the Barefaced .

I've just done a quick A/B on this amp against my MB little Rocker . Both are rated at 500w .Through a Barefaced 12T cab & using a pick on my 36" Shuker. Firstly I can sort of understand how the woolly sound comments come about , The ABM has so much more oomph in the deep end & Boll*x it could could sound like that if your sitting right next to the speaker . But Stand a few feet back & just using the shape button I get a great clear Tone with a low end depth that I never really got with the MB . The graphic I set up to get a great Stranglers sound . Using the 4 way foot switch I could use the Drive & Eq to get a Stranglers sound , Compression & Octave to get a great sound for Sledge Hammer (Peter Gabriel) .compression & drive for Killers type sounds. All this means I can do way with my effects . The mute button is very handy unlike the mute pull knob on the Markbass that is on the master volume & I find difficult the operate on a gig with my sweaty hands & is too easy to change the volume by accident . The ABM is about 10lbs heavier than the MB but for me this isn't an issue . At my last gig I had comments from the drummer like " Shouldn't your sound be more ballsy " from friends in the audience saying I sounded a bit HiFi . To sum up I can't see myself getting rid of this amp unless it blows up & everyone is going to love it ...apart from the keyboard player who is weird & hates low frequencies & realising this makes me like it even more
Hey Kevin, Yes it seems as though a sleeved version was sent instead of the standard rack one doh. This is easily rectified though as once out of the sleeve its the same head it just needs a lid and rack ears which we do as a kit. I can get a kit sent to you asap and its a very simple 10 min job to convert it then you should be sorted. As an apology for the hassle I would like to send you an Ashdown T shirt and a free Dr Green or Ashdown FX pedal of your choice... Let me know if this is ok and apologies once again, gremlins in the warehouse!
Bloody Hell !!!! that's great Ok I'll go for a VU-T shirt xxl & any pedal that would help get a John Entwhistle / JJB sound thanks very much .........you could do an add with me standing next to one of your famous users saying " We even look after normal people "

Thanks for the reply, the invoice has ABM NEO 400 RC on it but on the box it says ABM NEO 400 RC LITE ? .

Just received my new amp today from Sounds live very excited & Oh dear it's not rack mountable as on their Web site but in a wooden case & I needed this for the weekend ....This version isn't on Ashdowns Web site so must presume it's old stock ......anyway I'm off to sulk .
Were you on the stage? If not did they have an ashdown pa?
When I go & see bands I'm interested in, I always go to the front & I can clearly hear the on stage sound.....The last time I went to see the Stranglers there was a huge difference in the onstage sound from the PA as soon as I got about ten rows back maybe they had a sound guy that din't know JJs sound ? when I last saw Level 42 in a local event the PA sound was nearly identical to the onstage sound ..
No disrespect badboy but you really think the following players use Ashdown because they found a good 2nd hand deal on Ebay? Guy Pratt Norman Watt Roy Jah Wobble Nate Mendel - Foo Fighters Nick O'Malley - Arctic Monkeys Pino Palladino Paul McCartney JJ Burnel James LoMenzo Bruce Foxten James Johnston - Biffy Clyro Adam Clayton - U2(Bought a CTM 300 to record their new album with) Jeremy Davis - Paramore Ross MacDonald - The 1975 Will Farquarson - Bastille Shavo - System of A Down Matt Barnes - You Me At Six Lenny Kravitz Arcade Fire Etc Etc All in need of cheap amps?
Can you add Kevin Dean to that list I've just ordered a ABM NEO 400 R C
I tell you, I don't like perpetuating stereotypes (much...) but over many years I've found keys players to be nothing but a huge bloody pain in the arse. There's definitely something wrong with 'em. Always late, aloof, over-developed sense of worth and entitlement, encroach on my frequency space with their pointlessly noodling left hands... mentally ill... I could go on. Apologies to all the lovely keys players reading this who are musically adept, perfectly sane, humble, modest and punctual!
He plays in your band as well then
-
In my band the Drummer is the lead singer he also has a Roland TD kit , It's the keyboard player that drives me nuts , he always turns up late , makes no eye contact in between songs to let you know he's ready & quite often starts a song with out setting his pitch shift , he has his own mixer but his levels are all over the place & he blames me as I run the PA , but apart from that he's brilliant .
-
I've just ordered a ABM NEO 400 R & I will compare it against my Mark bass little Rocker , Mark Bass Mo Mark & TC BH250 via my Barefaced super 12 T . Two of these amps will be sold on .
-
I've worked on a Stranglers gig & he uses both the JJ for the 10" cabs & the ABM for the 15" , I've tried the MK version & I think the voicing is different , Personally I like the ABM especially that they now do a lighter version & that has overdrive , compression & octaver everything I need on a gig .
You're looking for an amp that you wonder why people are using?! I would be wary of buying kit on the premise that you've seen a few bands using it at a festival.
Perhaps I'm nuts but I'm trying to get a full rig that is made in the UK & I've noticed their lighter ABM heads are made here .
-
Myself & a lot of my friends use Markbass amps for mainly pub/club bands . I found it interesting when walking around the Isle of Wight Festival to see how how many bands use Ashdown I wonder why ? .........I'm currently looking for a stockist that has a Ashdown ABM Neo 400 H in stock & getting cheesed off with Web site telling me they have one in stock & next day delivery etc & they haven't .

Thinking of changing amps....suggestions???
Kevin Dean replied to Jabba_the_gut's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use a Barefaced super 12T cab & I can't see myself changing it , really pleased with it & I've had most makes . As for heads I have a MarkBass MO Mark , a TC 250BH, & a MB little Rocker & for me the Little Rocker is the best one .Having said that I like the idea of having a rig made in the UK & I'm probably going to get an Ashdown head , one of the newer lighter ones . -
Thanks for your comments .

Ashdown ABM-500RC EVO III Rackmount Bass Head? Feedback Please?
Kevin Dean replied to Greg.Bassman's topic in Amps and Cabs
Ashdown are just bringing out a rack kit so you can convert it . -
For the nearly £300 price difference is the ABM a much better amp or just a dfferent one ?
