  1. I need to pick the collective brains of the BC massive. As stated above I'm looking at making a leather scratchplate for this bass but I would prefer if it wasn't plain. There are numerous videos on YT showing how to stamp an image into the leather so I'm thinking about an image to stamp and what to use. For instance I already have a Staffordshire Bull terrier badge (about the size of a 10p piece) that I could use. I'm hoping that somebody will say "have you thought of..." It can't include lettering which would be reversed so no logos. If anybody has the ability to print a stamp then please get in touch to discuss. Thanks people.
  2. Clearly managed to avoid the Brainwashing that goes on here (till now!!) 😆😆🧠🌊
  3. I acquired a Spector 6er recently - plays OK but really needs a makeover. The original Holoflash finish was sprayed over in a non- descript grey, has mismatched machine heads and needs a general tidy up. I've damaged my hand so I'm limited to how much I can play - no time like the present, especially as the weather is improving so I can work outside - I took it upon myself to strip the bass down and take the body back to natural. Alder, I believe - please correct me if I'm wrong. Before: I've also taken it upon myself to soften the curves on the body and get rid of those right angles. Currently: Plan is to replace the pvc scratchplate with a leather one. I've managed to grab some leather scraps from ebay for a fiver - more than enough to make mistakes without worrying too much. May need to glue the leather to something to prevent it curling off - trip to craft shop when the leather arrives. Still much more to do - more sanding tomorrow. More photos as it progresses.
  4. So the 6er arrived with a few issues including knobs which seem to have been glued on. I've attacked it with a palm sander and elbow grease - so it's gone from grey to natural. 5. Watch out for new shoes and handbags appearing out of nowhere.
  6. Sad if this didn't sell. As you say, "a lot of bass for your money"...the parts must be worth more than the asking price.
  7. A whole roll of lining paper is about 99p - use what you need and give the rest to some kids to draw on.
  8. I have a set of (hidden) 1x coil per string pickups in my Psilos bass - very happy with them. I commissioned Martin to build a set of MM Ray style pickups for my Kawai which I was less pleased with - really because I expected something special but got something not out of the ordinary. Can't deny that he knows what he's doing though.
  9. Hey Mike Welcome to this forum. Lots of great advice available and a fantastic opportunity to make new friends. I live in a flat with neighbours - I think you have to accept that there is give and take so people (well mine anyway) are sympathetic to the need to practice. It must be less noisy that playing drums for sure. I'd go and speak to the neighbours and tell them that you've bought a new instrument and that you will be playing at a considerate volume - if it's too loud then ask them to let you know. You haven't got to play loud to practice. Since you don't yet own a bass I'd post your location - pretty sure that any local BCer will be able to help with gear selection and practice advice. Personally I'd be watching lots of Talkingbass and Scotts Bass lessons videos. You haven't got to sign up to either, there are plenty of free lessons which will help you on your journey.
  10. If I didn't have two already I'd give this serious consideration. Brilliant basses - a real workhorse that can do virtually anything.
  11. Amazing - exactly what we would expect from a market leader like Spector. Anybody want to buy a kidney??

  13. Stop(in the name of love) - The Supremes
  14. That isn't uncommon...see it a lot. It's a pretty expensive way to buy a bass though.
  15. Don't start me...far too many ( and mostly to other BC members)
  16. Hold the line - Rainbow??? TBH I'm not sure
  17. There are many sorts of disposable wipes now that will do the job. If you're worried you can buy the Ernie Ball ones which are designed for just this situation https://www.gak.co.uk/en/ernie-ball-wonder-ball-wipes/36025?gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4NujBhC5ARIsAF4Iv6cCCQ19XBs0-k7Sfgi66k9iQhFR4k8-XHYZGmHbFYznu-ybKdBXxHQaAlf4EALw_wcB
  18. I bought a GB Rumour and loved it. I had a Status Kingbass at the same time but was so enamored by the Rumour that when a Spitfire came up I felt I had to jump on it. I traded the Kingbass for the Spitfire. Big mistake. The Spitfire, though a nice bass in it's own right, wasn't even half the bass the Rumour was, and didn't live up to my expectations. Needless to say, it didn't stay long and I wasn't able to get the Kingbass back. I eventually moved the Rumour on (for a lot less than the market price)...again another mistake. Sellers remorse is a real biitch.
