    High output active Wilkinsons are the main contender to replace the replacements. The housings will need a bit of noodling.

    Personally I'd take the partial refund and spend it on some sand paper, etc . A few hours and you have a relic'ed bass. I have one of those rubber stringed basses...tuners are rubbish and the strings won't stay in tune. Fun to play though.

    Someone else had a similar query recently - not sure of the outcome though. A friend who has been playing over 40 years had one and was very impressed. Not surprising really - there aren't many bad new basses out there.
