  1. Martin made the "invisible " pickups in my Psilos and the replacements for my Kawai. I don't own a jazz bass or I'd have these. Custom pickups for £40? Amazing value.
  2. IMO EW&F would have more of a following if they didn't have the falsetto vocals.
  3. Hope you get it back soon. @Jon Read you are a welcomed new member. If you want to buy anything I have for sale there's a 10% discount.
  4. Ouch!! A good luthier will be able to make good on that broken neck.
  5. I feel for the seller. Hope he gets a fair price for them all.
  6. I can't believe that I haven't let you all have a look at this.
  7. ..or should I say he once knew me?
  8. I reckon that the typical toaster plays better than most Rics.
  9. I had an "ebanol" fretboard on a Hohner cricket bat bass back in the day. One of the many problems with the totally shite excuse for a bass.
  10. I've made it clear that I don't have a clue what the electronics actually do so don't understand the limitations of the parts. One of the reasons I bought this is that Kawai have a well deserved excellent reputation for tonal range. I'd prefer not to lose this if possible. I would also prefer to have an active bass. The correspondence I've had from the pickups builder suggest that the installation of the replacement pickups would be straight forward, some of the contributions here supported this. I know this might be a bit greedy but I want the best bass I can get with the parts available.
  11. Isn't this par for course with singers and guitarists? If we treated bands like jobs would anybody have a tantrum everytime they didn't get their way at the risk of losing their job? Remember NOBODY is indispensable - they're either committed to the project or not. If not, encourage them to go cycling.
  12. Over the last year or so I've moved away from steel roundwounds in favour of black tapewounds. Been using Status where possible but I've been relying on what Dawn can find in the spares box. Medium scale strings are fine for 2+2s. I've moved to Fender and Warwick tapewounds - both very good value when you compare to the more established brands. IMO tapewounds give a warmer , phatter tone, ideal for soulful stuff.
  13. All amp manufacturers - PUT THE POWER BUTTON ON THE FRONT WHERE WE CAN FIND IT!!!
  14. I think that's been my experience with Andy too.
  15. Years ago I wanted big bassy 15" cabs which moved lots of air. Now I tend to want middy 10 or 12" cabs with a warmer more rounded tone. I tend to set my graphic as an inverted smile with more mids than bass/ treble
  16. Don't we, as musicians, listen to more diverse stuff? I'm done with rock as a genre, especially the stuff that's drilled into your head by radio stations which is why I enjoy the "what are you listening to now " thread and many of the videos @bubinga5 posts. Opens my ears to new music and quite often my wallet to amazon.
  17. I bought a set of EBS Titanium strings that never seemed to lose their zing - I sold the bass before they "went off". IIRC they were £20 off ebay. https://lordofthestrings.com/en/bass/electric/5-string/ebs-sweden-tn-cm5-northern-light-titanium-nickel-classic-medium.html
  18. If I win the Lottery at the weekend I'll buy them all...
  19. I wouldn't dare start a spreadsheet of gear I've bought and sold...it would make me cry. 🥲🥲
