  1. Last group of people I played with included a really good drummer, amazing keyboard player, myself, a horn player and a saxophonist (control freak) who also wanted to play keys, sing and to tell everybody what to play. He showed me videos of an impromptu bass line from somebody who clearly wasn't comfortable with the tunes to copy - even though what I was playing was fatter and grooved better. He was also telling the drummer what to play ( "you know...a boom boom, pitcha pitcha"...) Drummer's eyes said it all. Thankfully COVID came along a few weeks after the last rehearsal. Saxophonist has looked at my status on Bandmix recently - no idea why - I couldn't play with him again.

Not sure where you're based Dave but keep your eyes open for Bass Bashes in your area. There are normally notifications in the "Events" thread. The events are open to bassists and other musicians. Attendees bring their basses and amps and there's the opportunity to try that gear. Just ask. Much of the gear is hard to come by and won't be available in your local shops. Check the "Events" threads for info on previous events. We're are a friendly bunch so PM your local members who have gear you might be interested in and see if you can try theirs.
  3. Saw Sly & Robbie and Black Uhuru several times during the 80s and 90s. He was never note perfect but, man, his Riddim and feel were spot on. Another of my inspirations passes away. RIP sir.
  4. Why are the latest posts on some threads on page 1 (Basses for sale) and on the highest number on others (word association)?
  5. I've just had a closer look at the ad. Only the first picture is of the Status - all the others are of a Warwick. Deliberately misleading? A cynic (like me) might think so.
  6. Are they the original pups? They don't look very Yamaha-ish.
  7. IIRC somebody was looking for a BB1200. There's one on Gumtree in North London for £675. Check the pick ups first. Seller looks to be clearing out a few basses. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/yamaha-bb1200-vintage-bass-guitar-with-original-hard-case-/1421088089
  8. No fighting....I'd be on it if it wasn't so far away. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224729922428?hash=item3452f27b7c:g:H5kAAOSwFUVhr5zY

  10. Sold my blue 310 yesterday - sorry to see it go but glad that I have introduced somebody new to the brand...

Welcome Dave There are several basses in the £300 region which are worth looking at. The Marcus Miller Sire, The G&L Tributes, Squire Standard (both P and J pick ups) and Spector are all worth looking at. Avoid the Affinity range Fenders - all the above are better basses for the money. Lots of bargains to be had in the Marketplace here so keep an eye on what's on offer. Beware of the dreaded GAS - pointless telling you really as we all succumb to it.
  12. ...and Jaco's No1 and he didn't sell half as many records as Paul Mc.
  13. Interesting, if not new, concept. IIRC @Happy Jack has a Westone with a similar set up. This custom guitar has a single pickup which can be moved around the guitar’s body instead. https://hackaday.com/2021/12/05/bass-guitar-gets-shapeshifting-pickups/
  14. So less than a week and a new list... https://seatgeek.com/tba/articles/the-top-10-best-bass-players-of-all-time/
  15. Ashdown set a standard that others should aspire to...other manufacturers are you reading this thread??
  16. Great impulse buy for somebody - nearly me.... Please, don't sell it to me....
  17. Agree.... If you asked me who the best player in the world is for 7 days in a week you'd probably get 8 different answers based on what I've been listening to.
  18. Love the pencil mark by the bridge. Mark of quality craftsmanship. The alignment of the bridge shows the artistry of the man...
  19. Very much so....whenever it comes out and I show people the photos of how I bought it they don't believe me. I tell them, "that's the wonder that is @Andyjr1515".
  20. I've had two - great basses for the money. Other manufacturers must be proper jealous.
  21. How can John Taylor be the best bassist in the world when he hasn't done anything for years? I don't know most of these bassists and in about 10 years time nobody will have heard of them... BTW none of my top ten are on the list.
  22. Nobody's mentioned those assembled in Japan using MIA parts. I had one of the very few that made their way to the UK - for some reason I never gelled with it. It may not have been any different from many of those built in the US. If you come across one give it a go...
