  1. You could go for these (3) aged machine heads.

    Drop C#

Take a fiver (low B) and put a Capo on the 2nd fret?
  3. You're preaching to the Choir... Spalted Amboyna top is amazing - beautiful figuring. This is one of only two single cut Harlots that Alan built. If it was headless I would never have sold it. Whoever buys this is getting an amazing bass - the JE Pre is up there with the best in the world. I've heard it referred to being as good as Wal and Alembic by a number of previous owners. Not the easiest thing to master but once you've found a tone you're happy with LEAVE IT ALONE!!
  4. IIRC it was commissioned by @GreeneKing. I agree that this may be the prettiest bass that Alan ever built..
  5. I like the top - it would be a shame to lose it under paint. A natural satin finish would be my preference/ recommendation. Have you thought about "aged/ relic" hardware? There are aged brass tuners on eBay which would suit a natural finish bass. I'd also think about satin finish tuners.
  6. Do you know if that blue BBG5S is the one listed on Gumtree a few weeks ago
  7. Oh WOW!! Nice to see my old bass. This is an AMAZING bass - the pre-amp (filters) gives a huge range of tones - if you can't find the tone you're after, it doesn't exist. Strange that the weight was asked - I never considered this to be a heavy bass, such is the excellent balance - hangs perfectly on a leather 3" strap. This is another of the basses that I was too precious with - loved playing it but always worried that any damage from a drop would result in devaluing it by several hundreds of pounds. Nice to see it's for sale at what I sold it for - CHEAP at the current price. IIRC I sold it in a Hiscox case which it fits with a bit of modification to the padding. GLWTS
  8. Amended...need to check spelling BEFORE pressing "save"
  9. I have Dawn's direct email which I use whenever I contact Status. She generally responds the same day. [email protected]
  10. Sold Gareth a P bass scratchplate I'd bought but didn't use. He paid before it even arrived (I prefer buyers to be happy with items I send without them seeing them). Super correspondence before and after the transaction. Trade with confidence.
  11. Don't see these for sale very often - well priced? https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/yamaha-sb5a-yamaha-samurai-bass-/1413709595
  12. You must be good at hide'n'seek.... I suspect when Mrs @cd_david finds out you've been doing that on her good rugs you're in for a hiding.
  13. Yep...been there... ...and then you realise you don't really need all those you bought because you thought you did. Realistically I use a compressor ( or the built in one on a TE) and a Envelope Filter for phattness. Everything else is superfluous (maybe a Behringer BDI 21).
  14. Fretless on eBay - £525 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353644492075?hash=item5256dab52b:g:DZ0AAOSwAH1hAubZ
  15. I think one of the worst places to try basses are Bass Bashes. You can try basses in every price bracket and obscure gear that very few shops in the UK will have in stock. Though I love attending bashes to meet up with other members I often leave cursing so and so for letting me play their bass....I'm sure I'm not the only person who was plotting @Frank Blank's assassination to get my hands on his Mouse.

  17. I recently sold mine - very playable, nice necks, great tonal package but heavy - well over 11LBs. They were selling for over £1k a couple of years ago - £6-700 seems common at the moment (there's one on ebay). If you can manage the weight - buy it.
  18. I managed to get a 5 album collection for about £10. TBH I haven't really given it a good listen to.

  20. @Lozz196, @Lozz196...somebody's changed your username and picture...
  21. Yep, I love it when they join in with percussion. I do sometimes have to play a bit louder so they get in time.
  22. The "crack" is only in the top veneer?? Old antiquist's trick would be to melt some wax/ crayon into the "crack" with a hot iron/ cloth.
  23. If we're using animal analogies the if you bought this you'd be "the cat that got the cream". I love the colour - unfortunately it has an "F" on the headstock. GLWTS Mr Murphy
