Yep...been there... ...and then you realise you don't really need all those you bought because you thought you did. Realistically I use a compressor ( or the built in one on a TE) and a Envelope Filter for phattness. Everything else is superfluous (maybe a Behringer BDI 21).

I think one of the worst places to try basses are Bass Bashes. You can try basses in every price bracket and obscure gear that very few shops in the UK will have in stock. Though I love attending bashes to meet up with other members I often leave cursing so and so for letting me play their bass....I'm sure I'm not the only person who was plotting @Frank Blank's assassination to get my hands on his Mouse.

I recently sold mine - very playable, nice necks, great tonal package but heavy - well over 11LBs. They were selling for over £1k a couple of years ago - £6-700 seems common at the moment (there's one on ebay). If you can manage the weight - buy it.

I managed to get a 5 album collection for about £10. TBH I haven't really given it a good listen to.

Yep, I love it when they join in with percussion. I do sometimes have to play a bit louder so they get in time.

The "crack" is only in the top veneer?? Old antiquist's trick would be to melt some wax/ crayon into the "crack" with a hot iron/ cloth.

Personally I like a limited palette - I'd go with the larger cream plastic ones.

Found this thread after somebody quoted it on Gumtree. I bought a BB615 - great bass tonally with amazing playability. My only issue is the size of the body - I prefer a smaller body - if I could transfer everything into a something like a BC Nanyo I would be a very happy bunny.

Expect he'll be using copious amounts of "go faster chemicals".. Hope he doesn't suffer with RSI - he may well do in 60 hours or so.

IME The hardest band member to find is a decent drummer. If you can find one you're well on your way. Obviously we're not counting good singers without an ego...

I've always had great service from D'Addario - they were really supportive with donations at The Herts Bass Bashes.

Bought some Rotos tapewounds (65/75/100/115) a while back - didn't actually open them till yesterday when I put them on my new Yamaha BBG5S. I didn't play the bass till today when I noticed the D/G are the same. Didn't notice when restringing the bass. I've emailed Rotosound asking for a "replacement" G string. Anybody else had a similar experience? In all my time playing I've never encountered this.
