  1. Not part of the discussion I know...I prefer brass.
  2. Agreed, however it doesn't hurt to acknowledge greatness...
  3. I just finished watching the video - a great acknowledgement to "the greatest bass player in the world". Jaco's an enigma - a genius yet fragile man who was destroyed by Cocaine and relationship breakdowns. He, like Hendrix and Jim Morrison, has left his mark on the world. The fact that musicians are still debating his contribution to music shows how powerful his work is. Imitated but never surpassed....to many still "the greatest bass player in the world". RIP sir...
  4. Several nominations for Sire. I owned a V3 which was an amazing bass - the only downside was the neck dive which I couldn't resolve, even with lightweight machine heads. If Sire can resolve this they'll have one helluva bass on their hands.
  5. I saw this the other day - if it wasn't fretless... I still wouldn't have the money for it
  6. This
  7. His budget is very realistic and there are many good basses in his price range. I'm sure he could pick up a nice Yamahas (BB is popular here), MM SUB, Sire and the lower range of Spectors/ Warwicks. I have a Squier PJ Standard which sell in his price range and would, IMO, be a good buy. I've also heard good things about Revelation which I've seen for around £150. Needless to say there'll be recommendations for Harley Bentons too.
  8. Welcome @mudsprout It would be hypocritical of me to advise you to stick to just one bass - I currently own around 12 (no, I'm not going to do a mental count!!). Find something you're happy with, join in the conversations here, develop your skills and enjoy.
  9. Nail varnish remover....you can ask to borrow some from Mrs drlargepants if you've run out....😉😉
  10. ...or next July when they land in the UK.
  11. Just a thought....aren't DP considered a bit too lightweight nowadays for this category? Was Cliff ever considered R'n'R??
  12. Musclebound - Spandau Ballet
  13. That is beautiful - you'll be sorry.
  14. I haven't seen it myself but Guy Pratt tells how he was required to smash up a Status bass for a video. The graphite was tougher than expected - bass didn't break and Mr Pratt was left feeling a bit like a....
  15. Yellow Submarine - The Beatles
  16. No...in the same way as Zeppelin aren't a metal band, even though many bands cite them as an influence.
  17. Not nostalgia - it was probably true!!! If you were happy with your previous TE why not go with another respected, British built, brand with excellent customer service? Loads of people have already recommended Ashdown - designed and built by the same team as your TE - great tonal packages, lightweight and generally reliable. Can't remember when I heard of one going down. If you ever have any problems they are members here, @Ashdown Engineering, and Guy and the team will work with you to resolve any issues you might have. You can't go wrong!! My next new amp will definitely be an Ashdown.
  18. Wish I still had mine.... GLWTS
