  1. Nonsense...all Bass players need professional support groups... please don't discriminate...😉😉
  2. I played 4 string bass for over 20 years before changing to 5 strings and needed to change my technique when I did. Your progress may be better if you adopt "The floating thumb" technique on your plucking hand - lots of videos on YT. Another stumbling block for newbies is how you position your thumb on your fretting hand. Pointing your thumb UP the neck rather than ACROSS on a fiver certainly helped me.
  3. Little things mean the most - Kitty Kallen (AXA tv advert)
  4. Though I've never tried to emulate him. Mick Karn was definitely a huge influence. I remember at the time nobody was playing like him - had a style of his own and played outside the mainstream.
  5. Needlegun - Hawkwind
  6. Motown/ Stax and Atlantic were a big part of my childhood/ teen years so that would be Jamerson, Duck Dunn, Bob Babbitt and Carol Kaye, though I didn't know of them at the time. As a big Talking Heads fanboi Tina Weymouth was a real inspiration when I started playing.
  7. When I was at school my Art teacher, Mr Smalley (I'm sure he smoked dope!) had an amazing taste in music and would play albums during lessons. This is where I first heard Weather Report and Stanley Clarke - didn't appreciate the music as much as I do now but it certainly inspired my love of the Bass guitar.
  8. The House that Jack built - Tracie
  9. Is this related to the one currently on eBay?
  10. It's time for another Talkingbass podcast! This week Ellen is sitting down to talk bass with one of the most successful session bass players of all time: the great Nathan East. Nathan is probably most famous for his work with music legends Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson and Phil Collins but his CV is ridiculously long and prestigious having worked with artists as diverse as Al Jarreau, Kenny Loggins, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Joe Satriani and Daft Punk. He’s also a member of the band Fourplay and released several solo albums. In this interview Nathan discusses his musical background, his approach to bass line creation and also talks about his touring gear of choice. We'll be having a premiere as usual so join me there or just follow the link at any time to watch the standard Youtube video. Premiere Times: UK 8 pm East Coast USA: 3pm West Coast USA: 12pm Watch The Video Here Enjoy! Mark
  11. Long Train Coming - The Doobie Bros
  12. That's going to look amazing.... Are you good at waiting?
  13. Don't confuse "cost" with "worth"...😀
  14. Isn't this true of all Rick's?? 😉😉
  15. Sounds like your TE needs a service. I have mine done by Mal Crawford in Stevenage - always improved by his work. IIRC I've left his details in the Amp Tech thread.
  16. Baby I love your way - Peter Frampton or Big Mountain
  17. Lovely....one of the nicest I've seen.
  18. Four letter word - Kim Wilde
  19. Beautiful grain - shame you'll have to hide some of it behind pick ups, etc. Looking forward to following this thread
  20. The Bass or the Missus??
  21. 54 46 was my number - Aswad / Toots & The Maytals
  22. Here it is now https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194200665025?hash=item2d3742fbc1:g:tVMAAOSwlaJgw3f3
  23. I've currently got two...If the buyer wants to make a good bass even better, think about getting the paint off the neck and satin finished. Mine plays amazing following the work @Andyjr1515 did on it. As owners will tell you, these play better than basses for twice the money. GLWTS
