Series of checks: Neck - is it straight? Check the truss rod - does it need adjusting? No more than 1/4 turn per day. Bridge - does the action need adjusting? Strings - are these new? New strings can be too bright - especially SS. Remember a good set up can make it feel like a completely different instrument. Good luck.

I agree with @BassTool, however expect additional costs if you go for an unusual colour. I think you'll be OK if you go white/black or grey as they could do these at the same time as a vehicle of the same colour. Metallic purple would need to be a separate job I reckon.
