Basses that look like the colours were chosen by a 3 year old child - especially Tort scratchplates which don't match - black or sunburst bass with red tort.

My first bass was a Thunder 1a. IMO you shouldn't underestimate Westone basses, they are well respected by those who owned them, mostly in the 80s. It's unusual to see one for the price you quoted - it is difficult to gauge what a fair price is for Westone, though - you see them for £300 and for £1200 (one on ebay currently). If you like it, buy it but you might want to try something "less vintage " to see how gear has changed in the last 40 years.

Former golfer so that's a starting point. I also used the gym a lot when I was younger so no surprise that I have a back problem (muscular). I used to see a Chiropractor but a course of 10 (at £45 a go) steered me away from the golf course and gym. Thankfully I don't move gear that often but I do have a foldaway trolley for when I do.
