No doubting the quality of their work. I'm sure the 6 month turnaround time would be off-putting for some though.

I received a quote. A bit more than I was expecting TBH. "..300€ for a 4-string and 350€ for a 5-string ETS Headless system in gold. Spacing doesn’t matter." That's £256 for the 4 string and £299 for the 5er.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

I'm a minimalist in general. I prefer design to be concise and compact. I'm not overly impressed with the bridge which hints at 60s design rather than being contemporary. -

Q: are buyers of the JMJ replacing the bridge? -
So many positive and clearly heart felt messages here. RIP

Completely understand not wanting to do covers - there are some songs which drive me mental and I can't bring myself to play. Speaking to other musicians, most play covers out of frustration but would love to do originals. Finding the right people to do what that can be really maddening though.

Always, yet never, surprised by Alan's creations - always top notch whatever model you choose.

Secondhand Squier Standards can be found in your budget - you get a PJ configuration in a "classic" style. Can't go wrong. Various Yamahas, Sires, G&Ls and even Bass Collection Nanyos will be available within your price range if you shop around.

I'm surprised with the amount of "looks don't matter" comments TBH. There are lots of basses that I wouldn't be seen dead with, irrespective of how well they play or sound. Test after test has shown that most people can't tell what bass makes what noise - a test at one of the SE Bashes showed that many of us couldn't even identify our own basses. Joe Public certainly can't tell.

Collected the bass earlier. Mal's hands were swollen as a result of arthritis so he's calling it a day. I'm now in a position where I need to either find someone else or have a go myself.
