1. I''ve not watched the video cos I'm at work, but can anyone confirm whether the string spacing is wider on this one than the previous one? Just looks like it from the image capture on the vid.
2. Pleased to hear you're on your way to trying some new things
3. Update bump! Catalinbread up on the block but only cos I'm looking for something quite specific.
4. You could have a look at some pedals like the ZVex Mastotron which has a 3 position 'sub switch' - number 1 is just all fuzz, number 2 passes a bit more of your low end through uneffected, and number three passes a huge amount of your dry low end in with the fuzz (like the X&M in combination with a fuzz).
5. I've got the Ego and it's amazing for guitar. It also sounds exactly the same for bass, but I just don't like compressors on bass. The tone control really does help add a lot of definition to the sound, particularly on guitar. I also went and reviewed the Triple Wreck but decided not to get it. It's a tight Mesa distortion on guitar, but very noisy. Also, the 'boost' function is useless, turns the sound into unuseable mush. If you want a great Mesa type distortion (for guitar at least) have a look at the Tech 21 California. If you're just wanting more low end, have a look at a blend pedal to use with your existing guitar and blend your clean low end in with your distorted signal. SFX Sound make some great blenders.
6. Hmmm, could be a number of different people depending on when you ask me. Right now it'd be Matt Garrison. Not to say I dig all his stuff, but he is doing exactly what I am striving to do, and I'd love to pick his brain on how he approaches arranging and playing.
7. I don't think I've ever consciously decided to transcribe an entire album, but I think I may have inadvertently learned the whole of the album 'Antipop' over the course of a number of years (combination of learning already transcribed parts and learning some by ear myself). I've been thinking about returning to transcribing some more of Matt Garrison's album 'Matt Garrison Live' from a learning point of view. As a slight aside, Hadrien Feraud is reputed to have transcribed/learned by ear the entirety of Jaco Pastorius selftitled album as a young player... explains why his chops are pretty tidy!
8. I would agree with Bilbo to some extent, and disagree with Bilbo to some extent. The names of the modes are perfectly useable names and I would strive to call them that and use them to describe those scales. But I would say that to understand those scales and their qualities, it is important to identify qualities in those scales that relate to things you already know and are familiar with. This context is what will give it meaning, and more importantly, give it meaning that means something to you. I did exactly the same thing to get to the bottom of modes and what they sound like, what moods they evoke, etc. But it's pointless any of us telling you what I think they sound like - you need to try them and figure out what YOU think they sound like. This will give them meaning to you so you can understand how best to use each of them. Play around with them, what do they remind you of?
9. I agree Can I vote for you on May 5th? That's an alternative vote!
10. Watched it, and I really quite liked the overall feel I'm not saying it's a track I'd buy and give repeat listens to, but as a live performance and band I thought they had a good energy going on. Faithless, I can see why you'd see it wasn't 'tight' per se, but I'd say that they'd made it intentionally a little bit more relaxed rather than syncopated-sparse-tight which we often associate with 'funk/jazz-funk' - I felt the underlying groove was solid. It certainly felt very busy, but to me it felt like they were going for that 'wall of sound' type approach like some of James Brown's later stuff or some of Lettuce's busier stuff. All in all I thought it was good fun!
11. Thanks for posting this Urb, I'll have to check this out later.
12. Nope! Not worth watching. I can honestly say I have never been able to watch an entire episode from start to finish. I like a lot of music and have very eclectic tastes, but they get some sheer rubbish on every week. TBH, that is my opinion of the majority of 'mainstream' acts today - sheer rubbish with 1% music and 99% commercialism (I guess that's what it takes to be a commercial act?) and I don't understand why they are popular. Every so often they get acts I'd love to see for one reason or another (Foo Fighters, Metallica, Bobby McFerrin, a few other but names escape me) but the sound is typically a farce, and those acts are the few and far between.

Guys I played one of these at Bassdirect and they are TOTALLY worth even their price new. If you want a portable instrument that is a lot of fun then this is where it is at!
14. 2nd one for me, though that is a purely aesthetic preference rather than functional.
15. Guilty as charged. I love both instruments, and regularly gig on both, but if I had to pick just one instrument for the rest of my life it would be bass.
16. Awesome. Enrico, Erik and Sergio at Wood&tronics really know how to make a killer bass. My fretless is still my number one and I can't stop playing it!
17. These things look so slick. If I ever have need of such a switching unit a Lehle is top of my list.
18. My IEMs are dying so am just about to order some custom molded IEMs. Not sure that counts as GAS as its replacing something I use 2-4 hours everyday, I count it more as a need/requirement than GAS.
19. Just turn your amp up. You can get a lot more output at a given volume level with a pick than you can with your fingers, so just turn up to compensate... it is the electric bass after all!
20.
Yes... For bass... ... Guitars on the other hand...
Tell me about it!.... no seriously, tell me about it!
21. I realised just now I haven't checked the basses/amps for sale section on here in over a year, and haven't bought a new bass or amp in that time. I think I might actually be GAS-free. My W&T fretless is still the greatest bass I've ever played and I don't want to play anything else. Anyone else GAS-free, at least at the moment?
22. Great basses, and this one is no exception! Wood&tronics make the best basses (IMO) that I have ever played. Hence why I own two and I consider them both to be keepers. If I were you I wouldn't sell, but then if any of you are tempted you won't find a better bass for the money!
