That's phenomenal, I always loved the simplicity of that particular one. Unfortunately even if I had the cash and no other basses, I just can't justify buying any bass with wider than 16mm or so bridge spacing. Alas, tis a thing of great joy that heralds great sorrow... Best of luck with the sale, though for that price, I don't think you have ANYTHING to worry about ;0 Mark

Bit of an update, today I will be parting with some cash *sob* to purchase the AI Clarus BB2000 is selling... great price for a great amp, and the lightweightness of it makes for a great starting point too! ...Now... if only I had a Schroeder to go with it.... Mark

Genz, AI, EA and GK amps for sale *All Sold*

Most definitely, I think that's why I've perhaps played down the issue of material/wood type (in my own mind at least) as not a massive contributor to tone but as you say, they do vibrate and resonate, so to argue that it is of no impact is incorrect. Well I'm glad we've settled that old chestnut Mark

I got the impression he was a violinist based on all his in class examples and in discussion examples, so perhaps a bit of classical prejudice there. I am personally of the opinion that it does make a difference, but that the impact of construction/craftsmanship, pickup location and type along with amplification is greater. I'm not sure to what extent this is true (sometimes I'm not even sure it is!) but I'd perhaps venture out to say to a greater extent rather than a lesser extent. What are your thoughts Bill? Feel free to tear me a new one if you think otherwise. Mark
-
Thanks for the insight Bill! It's always interesting to learn from someone in the know such as yourself. I studied physics at uni but never got to discuss much about such things there, although I had a great chat with a lecturer about sound waves and resonances specifically pertaining to electric instruments and how (in his rather authoritative and professional opinion) there should be little to no effect on the sound of a solid body electric instrument as a result of the woods it is made from... can of worms there! I'm now working at a patent firm in the tech and engineering side, hopefully I'll get to have a nosey at some interesting sound related systems before long. Robbie, I won't be ordering a TF or any amp first hand before 2008 so in the event you don't have them in stock if/when I do order, how long would it normally take to get them in? Also you've got a PM. Mark

Thanks for the info, I didn't think it could be the same size as a 2x10, a little bigger maybe but there is a limit to the number of laws of physics that Jorg can break, and he's already broken his quota. Hmmm, there is going to be a wait involved before I obtain a Schroeder so I may see how things pan out as to which specific cab I get. Mark
-
Embarrassingly I don't know what a typical 2x10 is, I have tended due to the nature of most gigs and events I play to go through what I am provided with and thus have little to no experience of typical anything, other than my own basses. Mark

6-string bridge 15mm spacing

Someone said that the 21012 is about the same dimensions as a typical 2x10. Can anyone confirm this, cos it always appears much larger than that in the images. Man, this Schroeder m'larky is turning out to be quite burdensome on the future balance of my bank account. Mark

Reeeeally.... hmm, that's a valid concern you raise there. I guess that kind of opens it up to wondering whether it's worth shelling out for the light version, or even if it's worth getting the 1212L, as keeping costs low and going with what I know was why I was opting for the 1210R. Shaun at SHX music said that he prefers the 1210R as it gets a bit more oomph and works very well with rock, but reckons if I'm a 5 or 6 string player I'd perhaps prefer the lights. It seems a lot of you started with 1210's and moved up to 1212's, was that just the 'more power!' thing or was there a genuine bonus to them that you found? Mark P.S. Discussing this is making me go crazy! I want a Schroeder now! P.P.S. ... and perhaps some means of amplification so that it's not just an expensive furry table sitting in my apartment.

Thanks for that rule of thumb OldGit, that is exceedingly useful to know! When I was depping, we used a studio in london and I helped with the gear, I agree that the 1210R isn't light, but I myself can manage it with one hand. Not saying I'd walk miles with it with any decent degree of comfort, but that's why I'd want to order one with a telescopic wheel dolly; I don't drive so any amp over any appreciable distance wouldn't be fun to carry. Hmmm, so many amps! There was a MB LM II for sale earlier in the summer on here for just 250 quid, I nearly nabbed it but had no cab for it to go with. And still won't for a while... Slightly offtopic but I'm verrry likely going to get a set of Ultra Jazz's for my Smith soon, just to give it a bit more natural strength in the mix, should go great with the Schroeder as the Model J's I have in my Geddy get a phenomenal sound from them. I'll let you all know how that turns out. Mark P.S. If anyone is looking to move a Markbass head on, please, drop me a line

Oh man, you have no idea how tempting that is, particularly as its an even better price point than a new 1210R. However despite being able to afford it, I am not gigging at present so it would be better to wait and get it at a more practical though less opportune time. Thanks for pointing it out tho, I reckon Graham may be on that like velcro crops on alien spaceships...provided they have the corresponding strip of velcro! Mark

Hey Graham! Glad to hear there were good reports floating round afterwards then those were Tim's words not mine! Cheers for first dibs man, could do with keeping a few extra quid in the old bankie, let me know when/if you're going to move the whole rig on either in parts or wholly as it's a good starting point for working out what rig I should ultimately end up with. How's the wife and new born? Did everything go smoothly? Mark
-
Hmm, I've never really looked into Aguilar stuff, but if Jorg does it it must be right! I too have been interested in perhaps a pre/poweramp combination as I tend to go through amplification (PA or otherwise) flat. Any additional eqing I've always done on an 'floormounted' eq. Plus Dood and all the boys at TB are raving about powersoft amps, I'll maybe have to look into all of the above! Good thing I know what cab I want, otherwise this could've got very complex and expensive very VERY quickly. Mark
-
Funny you should mention that as the guy whose rig I played through is planning to sell his current head to get a Thunderfunk. Bassjamm's rig uses one too. Just need to hear it in conjunction with a Schroeder to know if it fits! Mark

Thanks for the input guys, it's much appreciated. I'm glad to hear that there's not quite as much science to matching power ratings as I thought. Like you say, Schroeders are very very very loud and I'm likely to be bleeding from the ears (I found that comment highly amusing) before I get close to causing the cab damage from too many watts. Although it's not a matter of always needing that power, I feel that it'd be nice to KNOW i have access to it... should I wish to cause any cranial haemorraghes... Shouldn't waste it, there are deprived kids in Africa who'd be happy to have those leftover watts.... Markbass vs EA at present, I'd been leaning towards Markbass in the summer when I saw the F1 and was blown away by it's size. Now that I know that the sort of power it puts out would be more than adequate I may look into that. Mark
-
Thanks for the input. I'd been wanting to check out Schroeder cabs for a while and then I dep'd for a friends band and was offered the use of the regular bass players rig which was a Mesa Boogie something 2000? I think? The tubes were a bit old and as such I erred on the solid state side of the amp. I was thrilled with the power and yes it does go exceedingly loud! My thoughts were to replicate that rig that I liked and work from there although that could prove to be an ultimately long and expensive wait sifting through for sale ads to check out various heads. Anyway, I'm taken with that mid hump as it has that sound that I've been looking for, solid punch with clarity and definition that lets you be felt but without just being an overwhelming low response. Looks like EA are getting a solid plug here... Mark
-
That is indeed a good bonus! I tried out that head I believe when I was down at the gallery, I did like how that one knob could warm up the sound with just a little tweaking. EA also has intrigued me, but I've yet to try one. The only thing that I'm confused about is power ratings as I've no idea how to match a head to a cab power wise. My understanding is that you'd want a head with a similar power rating, perhaps even slightly more to have the option of overdriving? Or should it be the opposite and have slightly less to avoid any damage to the cab? Also, is the Little Mark II the 500 watt? I don't imagine it lacks but I'm wondering if it is worth looking to have the potential to maximally exploit the power of the Schroeder should I choose to. Mark

Hi all, I'm currently in the process of getting a rig together for the first time, I know I want a Schroeder 1210R however I don't know which head would suit it! That's where I need your help! If you have any ideas, suggestions, opinions or experiences on great high power heads that'd be sweet. I use a sound that's somewhere between hifi and vintage, plenty of mids, cutting and thick but not excessively warm. My main axes are a Geddy Lee Jazz and a Ken Smith BSR B Custom 5 string (strung with a high C). These are in quite different places in the tonal spectrum too, not entirely sure if that will affect your input much but I thought I'd mention it. With regards preference of manufacturer, I have little long term experience of any head so there is no preference there, with regards price I don't suffer from GAS cos I never could afford to, I simply gaze in awe at beautiful instruments and the like, so as long as it has the right sound and isn't ridiculously expensive I'd give it a shot. Let me know if you have any thoughts on what head would match this cab. Mark
