1. This has got me thinking.... total is 23 basses (of which I currently have 6). I've certainly slowed down a bit lately though as I understand more about what I'm after.
2. Bugger...I was going to be at the other end of Camden High Street. Larry Graham at Koko on Sunday. Decisions, decisions.
3. Just bought a Warwick Stage 1 Streamer from Ben. Absolute pleasure to deal with and very helpful for a Warwick newbie like me! Cheers, James
4. I saw a DVD of myself the other night and I seemed to switch between a 'clenched lips look '(as if I was going to hit someone) and then I made a relaxed 'blown cheeks' look for one song. It was at that point that my guitarist pointed out the resemblance to the Churchill Insurance dog....gum chewing here I come. Jim
5. Hi, I recently picked this up in a trade and whilst it is extremely well made and versatile, I can't honestly think of a reason why I need to keep it. It's a Sandberg California PM4 Supreme; Full spec can be found here; Sandberg California PM4 Supreme Spec It's in excellent condition with only a minor mark to the underside of the body and a few light marks on the back. As mentioned before, it has a wide range of sounds through the P and MM pickups as well as passive and active switching. It comes with a very good Sandberg gigbag, all it's tools and weighs in at approx. 8-9lbs. Lovely bass for someone who wants tone versatility on the fly. New price for these appear to be about £1200.00. SOLD Cheers, Jim
6.
I now use one of these, purchased from my very good friend, Dodgnofski. Highly recommended.
yep, although I must admit I was expecting a bit more interest! Price Drop!
7. Cheers Tim. It really is a good unit. I've just gone even lighter now with my SWR headlite so this is now spare. Just hope I don't miss the extra headroom that you get with this amp. Cheers, Jim
8. Up for grabs is my trusty Markbass LMK 500W (@4 ohms) Amp Head. This has been my main amp head for the past two and a bit years and has served me well. For those not familiar, it has the great ability to switch between two channels or a mix of both which can be switched and muted via the optional footswitch (included). Full spec can be found here; Markbass LMK Spec It also comes with a Markbass gig bag which I've always kept it in (even for gigs) as it opens at both sides (including velcro patches so that it sticks to your cabinet head). I'll even throw in the Markbass Bass Holder (not shown as I just remembered that after I'd taken the photos) which is a soft neck holder that attaches to the side of your cabinet. (very useful). Anyway, the LMK was originally purchased from The Gallery in 2008. Very slight marks to the top cover but nothing noticeable. SOLD for the full package + postage. No trades thanks. 9. I have both a Lakland DJ and a Marcus Miller Jazz and personally, they are different in lots of ways. As you say, the slimmer neck, the smaller body and the pre-amp make the DJ a joy to play and gives you a brighter Jazz tone. I have a passive Natural finish DJ going through an outboard Sadowsky pre-amp. However, there's no getting away from the fact that the thicker, bigger body on the MM Jazz gives you a much deeper Jazz tone for those punchy lows. Don't forget to look at upgrading parts of your bass as part of your budget. I'm just changing the pre-amp in MM Jazz to Aguilar. Hopefully, that will be £70 well spent. I guess it's a case of getting out there and trying as many as you can!
10.
Yeah I think I'll just have to persevere with myspace.. as you say it has all the facilities for audio, video, photos etc its just trying to find good, clean layouts is a pain (especially with my limited knowledge of coding!) Then once I've got enough reasonable examples of my playing etc on there i'll hit all the usual muso wanted sites. peace c
Check out www.coolchaser.com. They have myspace layouts that generate the coding so all you have to do is copy and paste in the relevant area and job done.
11. I think that a key point here is whether you want a site to refer people to or a site to advertise yourself? I use Myspace to refer people to after I've made contact. It has all the basics for me and I've tailored it to look good using site software such as 'Coolchaser'. But....no one is ever going to find me if they are looking for a bass player so some of the alternatives that are mentioned above may be a better choice. Cheers, Jim
12. Having second thoughts about trades so try me. Cheers, FP
13. Price drop before I put it on the bay. FP
14. Friday afternoon bump. Consider sensible offers.
15.
I'd love to try the 112s....
Personally, I think the 12's are spot on. Fantastic all round sound. I'm going to give the SWR a workout at rehearsals tonight as I've only ever used them in anger with my Markbass LMK.
16. Here's mine with the newly acquired SWR Headlite sitting on top. (Only problem is that its so small, the feet of the amp head doesn't clear the handle on the top cab) Cheers, FP
17. All pm's replied to. Forgot to mention that I'm not after any trades at the moment so it's a straight sale only. Thanks.
18. Just bought an SWR amp head from Gareth. Straightforward and good to do business with. Recommend. Cheers, Jim
19.
Thats by far the nicest Gibson bass I've ever seen...... Nut width and string spacing at both ends please, also any clues as to depth of neck (ie profile) as Gibbos tend to vary a lot between models I'm lead to believe......
Thanks for the comments. Personally, I don't think the photos do it justice. Here's the spec from the original Gibson data sheet. (If you want a copy, then just pm me). Neck; Species: Mahogany Profile: Rounded bass Peghead Pitch: 10 degrees Thickness at 1st Fret: .820" Thickness at 12th fret: .920" Heel Length: .625" Nut Type: Corian (and I just measured it at 40mm) Fingerboard; Rosewood Scale length: 34" Total Length: 25.913" Frets: 24 Width at 12th fret: 2.140" cheers, Jim
20.
Hi Jim, I have the Les Paul Standard Bass (Honeyburst), lives under my bed ^_^ , for now anyway, I'll have to get around to doing a decent ad to put it back up for sale on this site. I got chapter and verse on the origin of mine from 'guitardataproject' web site, you just need the Serial No. See: Guitardataproject web address. Hope it helps with the sale. Oggy
Cheers Oggy. Just put my serial number into it and then I keep getting an error page so I'll try again later. Jim
21. Hi, After a lot of thought (I'm going through a sensible phase), I have decided to let go of this beautiful, Nashville US made, Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway Bass. I originally bought it from the US as an ex-demo model and I believe it to be a 2006 model. It has a AA Maple top with a Root Beer finish, rosewood neck and gold hardware including Grover tuners. Here's a link to the BGM review (issue 47); BGM Gibson LP Review When I bought this I was expecting the usual Gibson type neck dive but I was surprised by how well balanced this bass is. It will also come with the original Gibson shaped hard case. It's in excellent condition with only a couple of small nicks on the headstock (see last photo). I know I always say this but I really would like to avoid posting this one (I'm near J13 M25 but willing to meet in a reasonable distance). The case is in as good condition as the bass. As for price....well there's not too many of these around to gauge and they originally retailed at £1500.00 without case. I am asking for £950.00 Any questions, just ask or pm me. cheers, Jim
22. You have a pm. FP
23.
You should check out some Roy Ayres. I think he's another one that Jay Kay is, err, heavily influenced by. Probably you'll also like Incognito.
Also, check out 'Down To The Bone' especially their album 'Supercharged'. It includes a Roy Ayres track and there's some great basslines from Julian Crampton (Incognito, etc).
24.
I have just sold an LMK so will be able to give you a fresh comparison once I've tried mine out on Monday evening.
As a LMK user, I'm keen to hear your thoughts on this. I've always heard good things about SWR and this has caught my eye. FP
25. Bump. Still available.
