Ampeg PF800 & PF 115HE Cab (Opinions, thoughts...words of wisdom)
Floyd Pepper replied to Raslee's topic in Amps and Cabs
I play in a funk, soul, motown band and use a PF800 with a Portaflex 2x10 for most gigs and rehearsals and then add a Portaflex 1 x 15 if I need both cabs. Personally, I think it sounds fantastic for everything. I play disco, reggae and all other styles through it. It has never caused me an issue ( I had a PF500 beforehand) and it's cured all forms of amp GAS. For the reggae numbers, I just play up the neck on my Jazz to get that thump and this rig does the job. -
Yep, Matt Cooper does lead the line as far as Incognito. As for The PB Underground, if anyone is in the London area then they are playing here on the 29th Sept. http://www.apartment58.com/event/playtime-festival-4/

Fender to finally make the Starcaster bass and reissue the Coronado?
Floyd Pepper replied to neepheid's topic in Bass Guitars
Went into Wunjo's and played with the Sunburst Coronado... As mentioned before, slightly heavier than I was expecting for a semi but well balanced on the knee and on a strap. I'm used to a Jazz neck but found this one very comfortable. The tone/volume pots feel solid and overall, the bass is well finished and looks the business in the flesh. I actually found the pickup selector gives three distinctive tones with minor changes from the tone controls. Anyway, it came home with me and I'll give it a run at rehearsals tomorrow night. -
I've been to see these play live twice now and they are fantastic. Led by drummer Pete Ray Biggin (incognito, Level 42, etc) hence PB. Check out their recently launched EP. Some tracks include Randy Hope Taylor on bass.

Hi, As I've moved up to a PF800, I now have my trusty Ampeg PF500 up for grabs. In good condition with just a couple of very minor marks (barely visible) but has served me very well. I've priced at £250.00 + delivery. Once I sort out this photo uploading issue that I have then I'll post some pics but otherwise, pm with your details and I can send over some pics (although it looks like every other PF500 out there!) Available for collection as well. I'm based near J13 M25 (Staines area) Cheers, Jim

Hi, Up for sale is my Fender MIJ unlined fretless Jazz Bass. Looking at the serial number, it dates it to 85/86. I bought this from basschat about a year ago and it has been mainly used for home use rather. Finished in black and currently sporting a white pickguard. Here;s the description Body - One mark on the top edge of the body and three marks on the bottom edge of the body (see photos). Prior to me, a badass II bridge has been fitted. Neck - In good condition with no major marks or dings. No buzz with a low / medium action. Only thing I can mention is some very slight wear near the side dot markers. Fretboard - Really good rosewood fretboard with no sign of roundwounds. Headstock - In good shape with only a slight mark in the lacquer at the end of the headstock. Collection ideal and it will come with a used Protection Racket (semi hard) gigbag. I'm based near Staines / Heathrow (J13 M25) area. Price is £350.00

Any questions, just ask Cheers, Jim

This is actually going to be my first ever multi day festival...I'm even taking Mrs. FP with me. Looking forward to Marcus, Gregory Porter, BNH, Chic and Funky Sensation.

Just bought a Vintage Icon Jaco bass off of Gumtree based on this thread. It's fantastic.

Going to see them as the backing band for Mario Biondi next Friday night at the Albert Hall. Actually, it's worth checking out his new album (Sun) with Julian Crampton on bass, songs written by Bluey / Richard Bull and the rest of Incognito as the backing band.

Love my PF500. I use a 2x10 for practice and a 1x15 portaflex cabs. One other thing to consider is that the PF800 should be in stores in a few weeks so I'm sure they'll be a few peeps looking to move on their PF500 around that time! (I know I will be;))

Use mine live on every gig. One unit that gives me auto-wah, synth and delay. Great sounds and easy to set up.
The general concensus is that US Fenders are made in America, using American parts by Mexicans - Mexican basses are made in Mexico, using American parts by Mexicans If you check the link in my sig to my FSR Precision, this is my main bass. I was';t overly keen on the preamp so I fitted a set of EMGs
This +1 Having taken the Fender Factory Tour in Corona last year, this was exactly the situation. Fender confirmed that a number of the parts are manufactured in the US plant and then shipped to Mexico. Also, I think Neepheid makes a good point about buying an individual bass....regardless of where it is made. More basses/guitars are produced by the Mexico plant and they are built to a market price but there are some cracking MIM's out there.
Chic are playing in London in July I think.
And they are actually playing at the 'Love Supreme' Jazz Festival (nr. Brighton) this Summer.....along with Marcus Miller, Esperanza Spalding, Dave Swift, etc..cannot wait!

I actually have one of these. (No. 39). It's an OK active Jazz which is finished in a nice Sapphire Blue finish. The main difference is the flat fingerboard which is quite different from all my other jazz basses. LED's can be fun at some gigs but I must admit that it's not my main gigging bass ('76 Jazz) and comes nowhere near it. Jim
