1. Picato used to do a short scale flatwound set as well (if you already like the sound). Unfortunately their website is currently undergoing some work so I can't confirm if they still make them.
2.
Come on people, let us know what they're like!
Obviously everyones setup is different and the results will vary accordingly - for me they were a bit dissapointing. I already use flats that are either very dark (picatos on my Decade) or 10 years old (on the Pino). I also use very thin picks and the sound is only slightly changed with these felt picks. Bits of felt are falling off at quite a rate so I dont imagine they would last very long either. This was pretty apparent on the decade as it has a shiny white pickguard and after a few minutes playing I could see red felt all over it Nice picks, and a nice idea, but occasional recording use for a very particular and subtle edge to my sound is the only occasion where they are likely to work for me. No idea how they would sound with rounds and an all-round brighter setup..anyone else able to chime in?
3. Mine arrived yesterday as well - big thanks to walbassist for sorting out all the logistics
4. This thread has moved faster than I've been able to keep up with - I still want a couple if thats possible please
5. Count me in for a couple as well if you go for it.
6.
Well the only Fender CS bass I`ve played was Clarkys Pino Signature Precision, and it was amazing, so I`ll have to go with what I know.
And it still is amazing! I should never have let it go in the first place... If I had free choice and money no object the only slight variation would be a Pino, but in sonic blue. Lack of imagination rules If I trusted anyone enough maybe I could get mine refinished *gasp*
7. Quite common I think - easy solution is to put clear nail polish or the like on the pickup pole(s) to stop you being able to make direct contact with them. Otherwise I've dealt with it before by earthing the pickup poles by using shielding foil (with attached ground wire) on foam which is compressed as the pickup is screwed down into the cavity. Likely to be other ingenious methods though...
8. I'd always wanted to do this - but having owned (short term) a few '71 P basses, I've not found any that came close to my Pino so I decided it was chasing dreams and stopped bothering.
9. My old jazz DB teacher used to have me practicing using the first 3 fingers to pluck (in the normal DB way) in combinations varying across the strings, as well as raking to line yourself up for efficient use of those 3 fingers. Difficult thing and I guess you need to get some nice exercises to practice to work on the dexterity required?
10. I forgot to add - the "T" option seemed like added versatility but I really neednt have bothered. I've only had one bass that ever seemed to put out the highs to use it, and oddly that was my dark star decade. Even my sadowsky NYC didnt seem to fill the air in that freq range. YMMV as I'm probably pretty deaf in that area now due spending hours locked in a hideously boxy rehearsal room with a synth player who loved high pitched noises :/
11. Sounds like you need the one month trial that Alex offers My rigs so far have been (ignoring the ones I had before I met Basschat) Markbass LMII with 2 Aguilar GS112's Aguilar AG500 with 2 Aguilar DB112's TC Electronic RH450 + various TC cabs RH450 with 2 Bergantino HT/EX112 Tecamp Puma 1000 Barefaced Big Baby T There was some overlap with those previous rigs where I had different combinations. I'm completely happy with my current rig and have had no desire to change it at all. It's monstrously loud, weighs nothing and sounds awesome. Totally a one cab solution for me. Second hand? you'll be lucky. If you are ever in Suffolk you are more than welcome to try it out.
12.
Out of interest, has anyone got a close up pick of a Status Hotwire flat E string? I want to know if they are smooth like my Picato's or ''ridged'' like Rotos
No pictures but from memory - smooth like the Picato's
13.
For the sort of price those basses cost there shouldn't have been a "manufacturing defect" in the first place.
I think thats a somewhat unfair comment. Wood is a natural product that can undergo all sorts of changes that cannot always be predicted. The fact that it started to collapse under the truss rod nut may be have a latent issue in the timber, or just plain abuse on the part of someone adjusting it. "Manufacturing defect" was purely a phrase used when discussing the fact that, whatever the cause of this problem, they were going to sort if out for me under warranty.
14. Apologies to all but I have been so impressed I wanted to post on here about this! Having finally got my Fender Custom Shop Pino Palladino Precision bass (hereafter known as Pino) back recently I started to suspect the truss rod had issues... I had only ever swapped the TI jazz flats for DR High beams/Sun beams (not entirely sure which they were now). Both strings are low tension so truss rod tweaks were not really needed. Once I sold the bass to Clarky I think he tried some Chromes or something (set me right here Clarky?) and had some issues adjusting the truss rod but it seemed to resolve itself and all was well. Then I bought it back again, then stupidly sold it again to another BC'er. Then when bought it back for the final time the original strings were still on it but the truss rod was wound in a fair way but the relief appeared as it always used to be. This set the alarms bells ringing so I tried making truss rod adjustments but not getting any sizeable changes. I contacted Fender in the UK expecting to be told "hmm, thats a nice story...take it somewhere and have it repaired". The response I got was actually "we will arrange a courier to collect it from you and inspect the bass". Which they did, then they decided that it was a manufacturing defect that could not be repaired. The bass would need a new neck. Ouch I thought. Then they floored me by saying "we will have a new neck made for you by the custom shop under warranty". So here I am, a good few months later with my Pino back on the wall, with a brand new custom shop made neck that plays amazingly and it hasn't cost me a single penny. Eternally grateful for the level of customer service I've received, especially considering I'm not even the original owner of the bass (and they knew this fact) Thanks Fender
15. Litos bought my Sadowsky NYC recently - he was a pleasure to deal with throughout, payment went smoothly and he was very patient when the couriers messed up and the shipping got slightly delayed. If I'm ever in Portugal a mandatory beer will be had!
16. If all goes well this is now SOLD - pending payment
17. Bump due to fallen through deals
18. Buyer pulled out due to personal reasons. Still available
19.
You sold it twice............and bought it back both times?
I'm a slow learner
20. I was a fool to ever sell mine! luckily it was always on Basschat so I've been able to buy it back (twice). Best of luck with trading it, amazing basses.
21.
Great bass and Jase is a great guy to deal with. Surprised it's still here.
Thanks Chris - I'm a little surprised myself and will be very sad to see it go. This will go on ebay tomorrow as well to reach a wider audience...
22. Greg bought an ET280 from me, nice & easy transaction, would deal with him again anytime.
23. PM replied and a price drop to £1950
24. Bump for the (wet) Sunday crowds who aren't particularly royalist.
