Thanks - had a listen - sounds quite full and rounded to me. I'm getting more of a Gibson than a Fender vibe (massive generalisation I know). How do you think it would sit with two noisy guitarists and a full on rock and roll drummer? (curiosity mildly piqued!)
I'd say Gibsonesque is a spot on generalisation, its capable of that wall shaking sort of bass without being too muddy. I'd never used mine with 2 guitarists but it did cope with one loud guitarist/drummer and the very dominant keys player with an overactive left hand. I just played the "I've got more bass than you" card and laughed. You're more than welcome to try the bass out if you're in the area.
That's loverly but I'm a tad confused.... the pickups on this one - are they single coils or humbuckers? Not having played one, would you say it thumps like a P or does it have more of the cuttiing edge of a J-bass.... or something else?
This has single coils, the previous one I owned had humbuckers. I would say the best way to get a taste for the tone is to check out the lakland website clips (which are actually from a Skyline model, not a USA one even though the webpage infers it) Lakland Decade sound clips

Update: Now on ebay, few more pictures there as well. Lakland Decade Since previously owning a Decade (with Humbuckers) I'd come around to realising I wanted another, albeit with single coils instead. Not long after having bought this lovely Skyline one another option came up to get hold of my ideal USA version of the same bass. So as I now know I'm heading Stateside in July and will be able to collect the USA one I need to shift this one on fast as two decades is too phat for any man:) It's in great condition with 3 tiny dings, one on the upper edge of the body and one "impression" dent near the forearm contour area and also one tiny scratch on the very end of the headstock. They are nothing to care about about but just there for full disclosure. Sounds awesome and the neck is a dream to play. Whats even better is that it's rocking the scales at a very lightweight 8lbs 2oz - which for a Mahogany body is very nice. It has a cheapish padded gigbag but I can ship it in a proper box with proper packaging. [s]£720 [/s] £700 shipped or [s]£700 [/s] £680collected from Ipswich area.
Use to go to these back when they started (nearly 10years ago?!). Awesome day of music and I can only assume it's gotten bigger and better. How did you get your band on dude? Si
There is an application form process to the organisers each year, although it does help to have someone on the committee (like say Veronica from McGintys) put in a good word for you We played last year, thouroughly enjoyed it and the weather was awesome - nice day out for free.
So, these three basses are really getting under my skin at the moment. There's a common theme I think....... So, as each is bloody expensive, to appease the Gods of GAS, I'm embarking on a bitsa build based on the above instruments. I'll keep y'all posted C
PM'd - no, really

One factor to bear in mind here is cost and availability ? Second hand Sadowsky NYC (which will likely be in excellent original condition) £2k One, very second hand 1964 Fender Jazz - £8k?
Went really well , got lots of positive feedback after the gig and i dont think i sounded too out of key for most of the time . the gig was recorded so will know a bit more when i listen back to it . so glad i just got in there and did it though as could of been messing about changing my mind for ages.
That's the best way I think, just dive in and get on with it. I love playing my fretless at gigs or messing about. Try not to be too critical of recordings though, I always find that it goes down great in the moment but my intonation is never up to perfection when I review recordings so I just persevere with it.

Bearing in mind the caveat (from the TC electronic website) "The product warranty is only valid in the country where the product was purchased."

'71 fender P/J fretless - mojo'd sunburst loveliness
Legion replied to Clarky's topic in Basses For Sale
No offence meant, Dave ... the Tony Franklin I had (now back in the arms of Legion) was an awesome bass too, I chose this one over the Tony as I loved the mojo but it was a close call
I'll keep working on my own mojo for Tony Couldn't bear to part with it again - I've taken the very broken in Sadowsky flats off the NYC and put them on Tony and they just sound amazing, very DB like. I 've played this '71 whilst Chris had it, and again at Clarkys...very nice bass and my YOB to boot. Should be gone in no time...quite hard for me to resist making a move myself actually. -
Classic Series Musicman Stingray Totally Mint.

I popped round to see Andy the other day and had a quick play on this bass - it's very nice, nice weight and balance with a really comfy neck which I'm assuming is the deluxe, i.e. 7.5" radius? so save yourself a heap on a new one and buy this instead Having now owned about 10 stingrays I'm not going to risk buying another as experience suggests they are not what I'm looking for, otherwise I'd have seriously considered this. Best of luck with the sale -
At first glance, I thought that was a tiny, miniature bass and those candlesticks were normal-sized strap buttons.
I'm only 1' tall, wanna fight about it?!

I hate mine. In seriousness though, I still rate them very highly although it is unfortunate that the Metro's seem to have taken a bit of a price hike. I paid about 2k for my NYC and it's worth every penny. The "Fender Clone" comments just seem pointless - what do most other basses have thats so different? 2 pickups? maybe JJ, or PJ, of or soapbars? a headstock? some tuners?... Or are you actually paying for quality and tone that you like - the shape of the bass is a pretty moot point, you will buy one in the shape and colour that you like no?

Looking to move on my TC Electronic cabs: *SOLD PENDING* RS210 with cover - very good condition with some light scuffs but no damage especially as I fitted shallow rubber feet to stop the base being destroyed if you put it down on rough surfaces. Used for a lot of rehearsals and one easy gig. The RS112 *SOLD* is also in excellent condition as it's only been used at home. Makes a nice modular pair as the 112 does a nice job of lifting the 210 nearer to your ear while adding a sizeable chunk more bass to your tone. Also has little rubber feet added. I like these cabs a lot but having picked up some Bergs I'm going to run with those for a bit and see how it goes. I'm happy to split them although I only have a box for the RS210 and postage is likely to be pretty steep so collection is preferred for both. £290 for the RS210 £240 for the RS112 J
Guys your input is needed Im looking for a short scale bass and i am torn between a Fender Mustang and the Gibson SG of which Im yet to play I did play the mustang and although i liked i found the neck got a little sticky after a while. I have looked at the Gibson and found they have two models, one with dot markers and the other with pearl inlays am i right in thinking the only difference between the two is the fret markers? Im just after other peoples view and opinions really, have you ever owned either? let me know what you think
I currently own a '75 mustang which is really nice to play - I owned (for a very short time) one of the SG supremes... I hated it, and sent it back the same day. Sounded terrible, felt terrible and as for balance and neck dive -urgghhh. I vote Mustang. If you think a neck is sticky just sand it down and leave it bare or do a light finish with tru-oil?
