Consider me intrigued! What's the process?
Well, instead of using my finger to fret at the 12th, I put the capo on which I can make sure is perpendicular to the neck across all the strings and each time I put it back on it goes it goes in the same place. Whenever I just finger the 12th fret I end up with some variation as I work down the strings... Might just be me though eh

I've started using a capo to get a more consistent intonation setup, I'm sure there are better ways mind you...
Hmmm. The 72P gives me that inspirational factor but it could be because my brain tells me its a vintage Fender and its what I salivated over as a kid. The AC is a better playing bass with broader tonal possibilities. Push comes to shove I guess its my 72P but they are both cracking instruments.
Hmm, "broader tonal possibilities" is one I always struggle with, in that way that choice is a terrible paradox. P basses sound great, do you really find that those other sounds it can make are ones you ever use? I do this to myself by saying stuff like "I know I'm not using that sound now, but you never know when you might need it" then 2 years later I realise I still haven't used it. Mind you this can be tempered by having 2 basses, which you have. You've got a P bass and a J bass and even better than that, both are a P shape body which I prefer myself. Keep both - I've made my vote

From a "bass you will use perspective" does one of them talk to you, inspire you and let the creativity flow? if one of them does... I'd say thats a keeper. It seems a pretty vague outlook but I really have only found one bass that keeps me coming back to it in this way and thats the Pino (so far!). If they both feel like that - lucky boy
How much power/speaker size will i need for practicing and performing in a reasonably small area with a VERY load drummer? Would an ashdown electric blue 180 do the job?
Personally I find the acoustics of a room have a large effect on the "clarity" of the sound - the place where we normally rehearse is awful and everything sounds washed out and just noisy. Having a loud drummer is going to be the key factor though, I'd think you would want at least 300W to hear yourself well if he's a serious tub-thumper. Maybe get him to use Thunder Rods? they sound a little different but certainly stop the snare from peircing into your brain with every strike.

I live in Suffolk. I can't slap. I'm not sure how much slap I can tolerate. I guess there is only one way to find out
To be honest Chris I keep prevaricating between buying another bass (sorry but it may be Jazz shaped, legion, although people are allowed to change their minds, as you know!) or just selling this to release some welcome cash (my son was 18 last week and that was not a cheap experience - have you tried insuring an 18 year old to drive?) Either way I am not up for trades unless it's something very special
I'm only winding you up mate - carry on! it is a very nice looking AC after all I've got my eyes on a '71P at the moment (my birth year, and it looks to be a good 'un) so I'm considering if I can be bothered to follow up on it, we all have these moments. I guess I'll at least need to sell Tony if i go for it...

I've always kept my preset volumes at max so never noticed this myself. Strange...

I'm a very big fan of his style of playing myself, really nice "feel". I really must make more of an effort to sit down and learn some of their stuff.
I take it you've looked here ( http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=466 ) for the cabs, which imho are the main area to focus on if you are looking for lightweight. I'll elaborate on that as I've been down your route and despite having owned and/or road tested a few of the high end 'lightweight' digi/switching amps (inc having owned the SA450 and LMK Markbass amps) I've come back to a traditional amp (Thunderfunk). When you consider that your average non-digi/switching amp might be 15kg (excluding valve amps) or so that is still going to be lighter than your lightest cab, by definition a manageable weight. So unless you need a micro-weight amp to fit in a gigbag, I wouldn't get hung up on the weight of the amp; focus on the cabs... oh and despite having owned EBS and Tech Soundsystem Neo cabs I went full circle back to trad ferro magnet Aguilar DB112 cabs!
I'd certainly agree with this- the weight of the head is of no consequence really (unless you insist on having a DB750 or something). Having your cabs effectively split in 2 is a great back saver, I wouldn't want to carry a GS212 about at all, but I'm more than happy making 2 back-safe trips with 2 GS112's. You also gain some modularity for smaller gigs if needed. I'd certainly never want to lug around a trace 4x10 combo again, been there, done that. The one thing that's not been mentioned here is tone. Going light is certainly a reasonable aim, but if you hate the sound whats the point? So you need to bear in mind what sort of sound you can live with in order to decide what manufacturer you will invest in. I've got very little experience of Neo equipped cabinets and from most peoples remarks about "mid-range humps" I'm not sure I would ever like them as much as ceramics unless that is all hype... So, what sort of tone do you want? Can you live with a modular setup that means more trips to the car/van?
Me too please - I'm in Ipswich.
Ditto, if possible I'd also like to be on the list if its coming to East Anglia as I'm seriously considering going down the Barefaced route. I'm in Ipswich also.
American Series Precision. Great Bass. I have 3, selling one, but might keep it! What is their above the P bass from Fender apart from a custom maker? How do people rate the Lakland P Basses (Skyline)? Im guessing the Fender AV62 might be a good start, but anything else apart from going down the true vintage market and spending bloody ages finding one?
I think you'll find you'll hit the wall - the one with "law of diminishing returns" written all over it Essentially a P bass is a very simple (and lovely) thing. What justification can you make for a bass that is really really expensive but still has a volume, tone and split P pickup. Believe me I'm already looking at the wall with my Pino and Sadowsky - plus the Alleva Coppolo I've got on loan. Personally I think it all comes down to one unfortunate thing - there are good ones and bad ones in all walks of basses. Sure, paying more should put you in a bracket where quality is assured, but there is no guarantee. You just have to play it and see if it feels good and talks to you in a way that you want. Luckily the 2 P basses I've got are also the most awesome examples of the genre that I've managed to play (so far). But that hasnt stopped me thinking there is a better version out there...I think I'm starting to see the wood for the tree's. I think finding a vintage gem is about as good as it gets. A lot of work, but imagine the satisfaction.

Belated vote of confidence for Barrie. I bought his TC RS212 cablast month, he was kind enough to meet me half way for a good old natter at South Mimms and was a pleasure to deal with. I've already sold the cab mind you...Basschatters eh? what a bunch

I had this happen on my '74 P bass . The grub screws for adjusting the saddles were a little bit "loose" so if I played a bit too aggressively the saddles would drop. I just put loctite on the threads to stop them from moving - bit of a pain though as you have to remove the whole saddle to do a good job of it. The nail varnish idea sounds like a good one.

This is a really apt subject for me at the moment as I've been increasingly frustrated with our drummer who is likewise, a "very nice bloke". His timing drifts and usually drags really badly so I try to "pull" him along but it never works. I realised why the other day when he told me he never listens to the bass in anything! I give up and have had to start the ball rolling to get a new drummer. I feel horrible about it but to be honest the singer/guitarist/band leader agrees. It's made me start to look elsewhere to find a band that works and I don't want to do that so its come down to him, or me. I could rant on and on about the ways in which he is sucking the life out of the music but I have beers to drink and curry to order I totally sympathise. Get rid of him if a talking to and some time does not improve anything. Best of luck

*SOLD* I bought this from Molan very recently. I have been wanting to try the RS212 cab out for some time and extended demos (and cups of Coffee) at the Bassmerchant wasn't really the same as a proper rehearsal session with one so I bought it to give it a good try at volume. I like it very much but I'm not sure its quite what I need, especially as I would really like an RS210 or another RS212 to go with it and I can't fit them in the boot of my car! Basically my 2 GS112's stacked vertically is giving me the modularity and sound that I like. I'm curious about Alex's Super twelve but I think that will have to wait for another day... I just paid £350 and then bought a £30 cover for it (which is essential IMO) so lets say £370 and its yours! collection preferred obviously.

You know what I took a much closer look outside in daylight and found the same thing - glad you brought this up. Very very slight hairline cracks in most of the buttons. I will contact Daz tomorrow and see if a replacement is in order.
Hi, I think shipping would be around the £50 mark, depending which courier I use. I'll have to check when im home for a exact quote though. Hey, im at work at the moment, but off the top of my head the nut width is 38mm and the weight is ~2kg
Lovely bass, good luck with the sale - I think you might want to double check that weight though, 4.5lbs is pretty light for any bass let alone a Sandberg
