Interesting insight into peoples confidence issues...that they feel critically judged if using a bass with another persons name on it somewhere. Also most people are happy to advertise Ernie Ball, or Leo Fender without a problem. Does the name of an endorsee infer all sorts of different things to the name of the manufacturer? I don't know what mine class as, 1 sig bass and 1 artist bass I suppose. The Tony Franklin purely offered a combination of things I wanted (P bass, fretless, ebony, jazz pickup) I had never heard of the guy till I bought one. I don't care that his name is on the neck plate. Thinking about it, the same thing goes for the Pino. I was looking for a lovely fat, warm P bass that was easy to play. I played it, loved it, bought it. Then I looked into who he was afterwards. Quite the player apparently
I'm using a Novation Xio Synth to great effect currently! Si
I'd considered this one as well when my Novation Bass Station broke... But I fixed it in the end. Still the Xio synth looks very good and I've seen a few go cheapish on ebay. Its an interesting route to go down and means I have no interest in pedals for my bass as I've got all the weird and wonderful sounds available at the press of a key. Give it a go Mike
hey, you finally got it! Congrats! It looks even better in your pictures. The more I see it the more I think that your body might be from the same blank/tree than the body on my NYC UV PJ4. The birds eye maple fingerboard is also very nice. Now we have two unique pieces on this side of the pond.
Thanks Fran (especially as you played a part in finding the bass for the previous owner?) you could be right about the piece of wood used as I guess you don't get a lot of tree's large enough for providing body blanks that size very often. I'm still getting to know this bass at the moment and am struggling a bit with the ultra low action it's able to achieve. I could raise the action but I have this weird idea that it seems such a waste to have higher action when it can go so low!
Ohh do tell! How did you find the bodyshape whilst playing? I'm sold on the electrics already, I imagine it sounded really good?!
Actually it was perfectly comfortable sitting down, even though it looks like it might not be. Very slim little neck as well. Sound was bogglingly versatile really, although I can't be too objective as I was mainly testing out the little RS112 cab. It covered all the basic range of sounds you could want from the P to J stuff (and everything inbetween) with that usual musicman vibe built in. Very nice passive sound as well.
Haha, catching isnt it. If I order, im going through Darren n Co at the Bass Merchant as usual. Ive got a good quote im just making sure im 100%. When I emailed him, he said they have a Blue Big Al 4 in stock...not sure which blue. Id love to go and test it, but I cannot get down there at the moment. I think they are pretty damn rare at the moment.
Just had a play on that today - very nice I managed to buy some DDT strings instead of a bass though so its still hanging on the wall...
Only a matter of time
Somehow missed all this - well I never knew people paid so much attention to my sig! Erm.. I sort of sold it. Then erm... I sort of unsold it and therefore owe Clarky some beers and curry next time I'm in London. I've just taken the Sadowsky out of my sig while I think about what I'm doing EDIT: back in for a long term trial period...

Looks like something from the future! awesome
Great when a new bass forces you to step up technique-wise isn't it!
Certainly is a bit of a wake up call to hear all the extra noises you can make when DI'd and trying to play as clean as possible. I have tweaked the action back up a little already actually, never have been comfy with ultra-low strings. Just been round the houses trying out all the different strings I've got laying around...then ended up back with the Hi-Beams. Guess it's just that sorta bass
Nice bass. I know how well it will play, and how great it will sound too.
Just been to the studio for a couple of days and you are right about that one - it had a lovely chunky woody sort of sound. Although I have to admit that I need to further refine my technique a bit as its so sensitive
Hope all's OK mate?
All great Chris thanks for asking. It's just that our house might sell a lot sooner than we expected and we don't really have any concrete plans at the moment. Some of the crazy options might involve living in a caravan whilst converting a barn - Grand Designs styleee Certainly looking at renting in the short term though. I shudder to think what we will do with all our stuff.

Very recently bought - I think I had the intention of using it as a beater bass, its too nice for that to be honest. I'm also on the verge of a house sale/move/rent/god-knows-what-will-happen change of life and want to keep things minimal. Considering the Sadowsky that just arrived, this definitely has to go. Looking for £120, still in the same condition as I bought it here (hope xzodar doesnt mind): SX P bass Only change is that its been strung with DR sunbeams and setup to my liking. Great bass for the money. Collection preferred but I will post if you want to cover the costs. Oh yea, and the cat likes it... Jas

How indeed, I thought I was pretty sorted with my Tony Franklin and CS Pino Palladino... I do admit that I still had the desire for a bass that could do a very modern sort of tone but having tried a Sandberg PM4 and Sadowsky Metro (Jazz & PJ) I knew that although both were very nice, neither was ticking all the boxes. So what I had really concluded was if I wanted the things I liked in a Sadowsky it would have to be a NYC. I pretty much left it at that not wanting to fork out that sort of cash for a custom order and not expecting to see anything second hand. Erm...then I looked on Talkbass one day and saw a NYC UVPJ4. I decided life was too short, and they were too rare. So I bought it. Then waited bloody ages while Iceland ruined life for everybody and my bass wandered the globe looking for me. I finally got it Monday and took a little time to give it a clean and put on some DR high beams (after trying TI flats which let this bass do a very good impersonation of my Pino). I also took a little wire wool to the neck to restore the satin finish as it had gone a bit shiny/sticky up top. Thoughts so far: Lovely bit of Ash with nice subtle flamey look in the grain Quality is outstanding, as ever with Sadowskys Neck profile is spot on for a vintage P bass Weighs in at 7lbs 14oz and is perfectly balanced. Bonus. Oh, and just happens to sound great as well Heres a few photos to prove its existence
Once again, every time I use this amp I feel compelled to post here to say how great it is. I wish I'd bought one earlier...
I'm glad this one worked out for you Micheal - considering the size, feature set, power AND tone its a hell of a good little amp. The only problem is I've started to rely on the little features it has which sort of screws me up when I have to use someone else rig at a gig!
That's a killer bass, the Sadowsky P width neck feels great. I have played my J maybe a total of 10 hours since I got my PJ 8 months ago; and I have to say that my J is very sweet. What I did when I got mine was sending it to Roger for a set-up and revision and then they sent it my way thrugh FedEx, as they always do. Post some photos and review of your own when you get it. ...ah, and congrats!!!
Thanks Fran - can't wait to post some photo's of my own PM'd about the Set-up.
anyone who's played/has one of these, does the neck pup offer much of a darker tone - I have a single pup Ray and am wondering what the HH offers tonally. Would go and play one, but none to be seen. Ta
I had an HH Sterling and I can see very little reason to have an H over an HH or HS. The HH configuration gives a bewildering array of tones when paired with a 3 band EQ, although all do have that distinctive musicman vibe underneath. Fat and warm to the point of Dub can be achieved with that neck Humbucker...

Oh dear - I seem to have done it again I've gone and bought a Sadowsky NYC. I guess I knew this was the answer to some of my issues but never really expected to summon up the guts to do anything about it. I was seriously impressed by my MV4 Jazz but the Jazz pickup configuration just doesn't do it for me and I'm not keen on the Jazz body shape either. I liked the Metro PJ I had (now back in Psychoandys mitts) but the Jazz pickup location was a bit mellow and the 12" radius fingerboard doesn't agree with me either (also a tad heavier than I'd like). I knew a NYC was the only way to change these niggles... This beauty has a lovely Birdseye maple fingerboard with a 9" radius and a big fat 60's P neck (which I've come to love after playing my Pino). It's a solid ash body with some nice figuring and a weight about 8lbs. Even more of a bonus is that the J pickup has been fitted nearer the bridge 70's stylee. Fran knows all about this one...but the real question is, will it beat the Pino in a head to head Now - how the hell am I going to get it to the UK ASAP?...
