1.
Hi all, I'm thinking about picking up some Wizard 84's, and just seeing if they come with pickup screws? Doesn't seem to say on the site and would like to know before I get them and can't install them! Cheers
My P-bass Trad ones did - no reason to imagine the others wouldn't
 2. It all looks OK to me ( I had a '74 P and this all looks as I would expect ) but I think £1700 is the top price, 2.5K - no chance J
 3. These also came off my CIJ bass and I considered them to be an essential upgrade over the standard ones. A pleasure to use with a nice slack-free motion. Exact model is the BMFL 545's - they were a perfect fit on my 70's CIJ and would most Fenders of that era I imagine. Included are all the screws and bushes. Looking for £50 posted
 4. I had this set of Andys excellent "trad" P bass pickups in my CIJ before I sold it: http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/shop.asp?category=Bass Great sounding pickups, and in great condition. 5. Dread the niceness - just too nice! Bought some cables from Max, was very helpful and even offered to drop them off with a friend for me.
 6. So is this still for sale Chris? I'm a little confused as it was, then was up for trade and now is for sale yea?
 7.
This is now on hold. I got home last night, one of the guys from the band was there and he and TFMB were listening to a recording of Sunday's session and, f**k me, I was blown away by how well the Sadowsky records. In fact, on one track it was amongst the best bass sounds I have ever heard AND THAT'S WITH ME PLAYING THE BASS FOR F**K'S SAKE . I said I was selling the bass and he said "you might want to listen to some more of this first". I did, and frankly I'm amazed how great it sounded. Funny how it didn't sound like that at the time but I guess all the things that have been said about the Sadowsky tone are in fact true. I said in another thread that the band loved the bass, and clearly they do so for good reason. So, with apologies to all those who PM'd and enquired, this will be on hold for a while while I investigate whether the lovely old Fender Jazz neck I have will go onto this baby, or if not, whether I can get the neck worked on a bit to make it more suitable. If I can't sort the neck the Sadowsky will be back on sale and I'll probably install some Sadowsky circuitry into a bass that I feel more comfortable with.
But its like Kylie II - I simply must have it! Keep us all informed mate - that cash does tend to burn a hole quickly and I wouldnt want to rashly buy something lesser J
 8. PM'd - very interested ...goes to fill up car ready to drive to Kent...
 9.
I wouldn't say that was strictly the case! Myself, Marcus and WoT recently got together and we did an A/B of a pair of GS112s and a pair of DB112s and I have to say that I don't think that any one of us considered that the GSs had more bass/bottom end than the DBs.
Oh well, I did change 2 factors at once - my amp and my cabs, maybe the markbass was responsible for the extra bass I thought I was hearing.
 10.
Hey guys. I've been using my new Aguilar DB 112 with my Hartke head for the last three days in gigs (town halls, small halls and full venue with 10k rigs) with an assortment of results.... Using just the one DB112 in the large hall wasn't loud enough on stage at all, totally lost the sound in the hall but then it aint easy to get a good sound with any gear in that kinda situation, the smaller hall I had it set on top of a PA case at ear level so the sound carried great and I was quite close to it so I was happy with the sound but last night....the venue (The Lemontree in Aberdeen) had a great totally flat sound on stage, a great wee stage where 9 of us fitted and played a long set. At sound check the bass sound was clear, tight and growly - great but as soon as the whole band started my bottom-end (excuse the phrase) totally dropped out, all I got was mid and top !!! I had to ask the PA guy to put bass in my monitors !!!! I'm now resigning myself to the fact that I'm gonna have to buy another Aguilar cab to supply the low end for these loud gigs. I was maybe too 'scared' as well as its a new toy to really crank it up for volume in case I blew something (the cab is 300W and the head is 200W - could that happen?? Sorry, non techie, I'll stick to making the music). I'd really appreciate anyone's advice on this. Should I go for a 115 or will I get more air (thanks Legion) and enough bottom end from just adding another DB112 with the tweeter turned way down? Confused? YES !!! Graeme
Graeme - as Higgie says another 12 will add a lot of power, although I have to add that I think the GS112 cabs are a little more bass heavy than the DB112 range. Maybe you should check those out if you think that you need more earth shaking sorta bass. J
 11. Will take it! for a friend that is PM'd EDIT: He changed his mind, although he says he let you know - sorry about that :/
 12.
I've just got myself a Stagg EDB and after some reseach on fingerings and technique it seems that using only the index, middle and little finger of the left hand seems the standard way to play if you're right handed. I've been playing the Stagg using electric bass fingering, ie. one finger per note, using all 4 fingers, which seems ok. I have quite big hands. To give you an idea of my span, I can easily play a 9th interval (C-D) on a piano and just about play a 10th (C-E). I'm just wondering if it's a good idea to carry on like this or should I learn to play the "proper" way? Does anyone else play double bass using 4 fingers?
Only 3 fingers here, as thats how I was taught - he never seemed to need 4 fingers and blew me away with his playing. I guess if 3 is enough why use 4? If I recall the reasoning was that the 4th and 3rd fingers are "linked" as it were meaning its hard to use the 4th finger without the 3rd being dragged along, so why not use them together as one unit? Something like that anyway! as ever though, there will be expections to all rules. J
 13.
Hi Jas, I was running a Genz Benz Shuttle 6 with the db112 and was considering adding a second cab and possibly swapping out the head for a AG500. However, I was offered a Genz 212 Neox here on Basschat and have decided to pair this with my shuttle. I was an easier option and I'm quite happy with the result
Cool, I'm glad you found a setup that worked for you - best of luck with the sale
 14. This will be gone in a flash I'm sure Did you decide the Aguilar route wasnt for you then Paul?
 15.
I'm going in to try out the chocolate thunder DB112 on sat. Should make a big diff to my Hartke 4x10 getting in and out of gigs!! Can I ask though, did you try with just one 112 ? What diff does adding the 2nd one make, just power outage/wattage ? Cheers, G
G, when I tested the cabs out I A/B'd between a GS112NT & a DB112NT. Already having 2 GS112's I sort of knew what to expect when I added the 2nd cab to that configuration. The extra cab makes a sizeable difference to my ears as it just helps you move that much more air which gives the sound more presence and enables it to carry further. I know a lot of people are quite anti-tweeter but it certainly adds a lot to the sound and having the option of turning it down if you don't like it (or if its distorting under extreme circumstances) makes it worth having for me. How did you get on?
 16. SOLD - This went on eBay, you missed it
 17.
looks bloody lovely mate!! well done!! where did you buy it from?
Cheers Chris. Bought from the Bass Gallery - I took a trip there to try out a couple of Sadowskys Alex had in stock but neither was quite my thing. However he did get in another 2 from the USA a few days later, so I went back and got to unwrap them and try 'em out fresh from the box! This was the winner. EBS_freak - the case is the Sadowsky Ultralight case that the metro's are sold in. Lovely case really, nice interior, quite roomy and very light. J
 18. I bought this very recently after being seduced by the balance, build quality and huge clarity of sound Loving it!
 19. Personally, having owned a vintage Fender I certainly don't think "age" of itself instantly qualifies quality - there are good and bad ones whether they were made last week or 30 years ago. If you play it, and it sings to you, then its good (in my opinion). I worry that a lot of people hear what they want to hear, based on the age of a bass. I love the way my TF sounds and the selector switch setup is a doddle to use mid song etc - mine will age with me and I'll add some of my own "mojo" on the way. Don't get me wrong I'd love a nice '71 P - but it would have to be a damn good one, not just a '71 for the sake of it. Micheal if the jazz pup isnt your thing then it sounds to me like you have already got your answer about this particular bass? I love the PJ position the most myself, but I guess it's not everyones cup of tea. Start looking for a nice ebony neck to put on your '71 eh? J
 20. I was wondering when you would post something to announce it's arrival! - I'm glad you bought the ebay one after all as I think my mind is made up now, especially in light of this note my girlfriend stuck on the fridge I think you need to spend some time using it in a band situation. That certainly helped me make my mind up. Keep us informed how you get on J
 21.
If you like to chuck all your leads, cables, fuses, spare strings etc in one bag, then this is for you. It's a Gator, so you know it's well made, and is just the right size for all those bits you take to a gig. Features: * Synthetic fur lining (really nice) * 30mm spongy foam lining * Exterior accessory pocket * Carry handles * Removable shoulder strap * 18" x 10" x 7" These are £27 posted on eBay. This one is mint so I'd like £20 posted. To quote Owen, want it you know you do. Cheers Gareth
Go on then...paypal OK? J
 22.
Oooo Chocolate.....Mmmmmmmm are those cabs heavy??
They're not featherweight I'm afraid. An easy 1 handed lift but 42lbs makes them fairly hefty if you need to move them very far. Having the rig split into 2 cabs makes that very tolerable though
 23.
That is my dream rig! I'm halfway there already, got a chocolate thunder DB112 and an AG500SC - Just need the NT cab now!! Glad it's working out for you, and I hope to have the same luck
You'll get there in the end Higgie, just keep watching for that extra cab
 24. Storming gig this Friday and the local photographer (Martin Rondell) took some nice shots. He even caught me smiling, bah humbug! Shirt & tie setup was to make the drummer feel at home as he had to skip out of his sisters Wedding reception to make the gig. Actually looked quite good, we might do it again
