  1. Thomann, presumably. Pop off a PM to them, maybe..? They'll be first to know.
  2. That's a very odd notion, to me. 'Variable Geometry' doesn't seem strange to me, and many bands, groups, orchestras and 'solo' artists do this all the time. Nothing's set in stone; once a performance is over, the next can be radically different, if so inspired. Still, whatever. Strange Days, eh..?
  3. When I saw The Doors 'live', there was no lack of bass ... https://youtu.be/uy2cBpbQ5Bo
  4. Don't neglect the other aspects, just because you like to just play, just the same. Do yourself justice, just this once. Signed : Justin Thym.
  5. There are so many 3-pieces where this doesn't happen, to use as models or inspiration. The Who..? Jimi Hendrix Experience..? Police..? Johnny Winter..? Led Zeppelin..? Tons more yet... As has been mentioned, several times, above, the dynamics, and making them work, are not only part of the fun, they're a major part of the fun..! Embrace the format, I'd say, and use its advantages as just that : advantages.
  6. I've just come across this; I was impressed ...
  7. Send a link to this topic to their Customer Service department, maybe..?
  8. As I'm Modding the Forum, I get to see many, many topics and posts, often enough with some musical recommendation or other. There's not enough hours in the day to really listen to 'em all, or even a selection, but there are times where either the post is particularly appealing, or I've a few minutes 'spare' while my tea cools or whatever. In this fashion, I've come across a few real gems that I would never have met in any other way, and maybe just as many that I can't believe anyone would spend even a few seconds on. On occasion, I've even gone as far as to make a remark along those lines; this obviously curries no favours with other Posters, but that's Forums for you..! My only other source of new listening is France Musique, a 24/7 'classical' national music station. I say 'classical', as there are often enough 'jazz' pieces played. I have this on with an hour's timer when dropping off to sleep; sometimes I'll hear a few minutes, at other times I'll re-set the timer as I'm still awake when it turns off. I hear no 'pop music at all, and miss none of it, as the few brief snippets I come across inspire me not one jot. Oh, yes, another source would be the monthly Composition Challenge, whereby I'll listen to (sometimes several times over...) the entries. These are very varied in genre, but are, for the most part, of high compositional quality. I'm excepting, naturally, those that turn out to be EDM 'head-bangers'; these do not get a second spin..!
  9. This may be worth a look..? I've found it very interesting ... J.S.Bach for bass ...
  10. Or plugging straight into head..!
  11. I think I'd lug a cab, any cab, up there once (or have someone else do so...), and leave it there.
  12. A plain brown envelope should slip through, I reckon.
  13. I gave them all a careful listen, and in sequence, but the only one I've retained is Schubert's Ninth (but special mention for the unfinished 'Eighth', just the same...). He finally came through, but should've ditched the rest.
  14. Good afternoon, GH, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  15. Maybe it's time to pay tribute to tribute bands..? I'd start with the Credence Clearwater Revival Revival Revival. Then maybe in a few year's time, it'll be OK to pay tribute to the tribute to tribute bands, with ...
  16. Sorry, no match for me. I've not been converted; I'm out.
  17. Having never listened to 'em, I can't disagree. I'll maybe redress this. Thanks for the recommendation (if you're right..! ).
  18. The tide for Basschat Straplocks has yet to peak...
  19. 'Hotel California' trumps 'Bad Moon Rising' by a very wide margin, for me (but I play drums, so what would I know..?).
  20. Hmm... Our annual festival (Trois Elephants...) had Keziah Jones, among others. His set started; no-one could hear Keziah or his guitar. The bass and drums were there, but not the principal artist. I was standing behind the console, just behind the Sound Engineer (basically as a translator...). It took me nearly five, very long, minutes to convince the bloke to leave the faders for a second, and to come out to where the public were, and listen to what they were hearing, not the sound in the console booth (about 100 m from the stage...). He'd obviously been 'indulging', but once I got him outside, he twigged, popped back in and adjusted the mix. It was touch and go; several of us were ready to ditch him and take over the console. A catastrophe was averted; the sound behind the console was OK, but not out in the public area. It happens... 2004 Keziah Jones – Bénabar – Zenzile – No One is Innocent – Feist – Tinariwen – Mei Tei Sho – As Dragon – dDamage – The Cat Empire – Camille Bazbaz – Sweet Back – Fingathing – Dj Netik – Relax – La Kinky Beat – Language Computer – Strup X-Perience – La Tropa
  21. Tunnel vision, it would seem. What I actually typed was '...It's almost an art, really, just like 'real' engineering.' Most things, done well, are artful; engineering, sound mixing, diagnosing ailments, making dinner... 'Artful Dodger', anyone..? Words have very wide meanings; it's really only the legal profession that try to pin things down. The 'Real World' is quite different, and all the better for it.
  22. It could be argued (and I would be one doing so...) that the Sound Engineer is, indeed 'designing' the sound heard in the auditorium, sculpting it from whatever source material the 'musicians' (is that term always appropriate, I often wonder..?) offer, using the equipment on-site to make the best of the architecture (or open field, maybe..?) around him/her. It's almost an art, really, just like 'real' engineering.
  23. I think you're being over-protective of the term 'engineer'. I was a Sound Engineer, back in the day, and call the role of the person at the desk 'Sound Engineer'. 'Get over it' would be my friendly advice. There's nothing insulting in the term for anyone (except, perhaps, the hypersensitive and/or pedants...).
